Good afternoon,
Looking to jump back in on the 30 days free for Planetside day sunday, i went to patch my client that was used last summer. Patched, awesome...

Click play...

black screen...loading, YAY!...

DING!

"Generic Planetside application error

PlanetSide will now exit"

WTF!?!?!
UHBOUYVFGUHBT&(*^(^%RFVBJI*&^%R

Reinstalled and re-patched, got nothing.

I have sent in a ticket to support, but I dont know what the support for the game is at the moment, so I am not depending on them. So, I ask ye, the masses, please help.

All my system requirements are more than met, I ran it on this same system last summer, and all my drivers are up to date. (ATI Radeon 5770HD)

Make sure the game is running as a administrator.

Yes it is. I'm not quite sure what the issue is now TBH.

Well, SOE Support actually responded, lets see what they can work out now that they have my dxdiag and msinfo. If I find a solution, i will put it here, because I'm sure others will encounter this issue this weekend trying to get back in the fight.

Hey, I had this issue and I lowered my resolution and it launched no problem. Might be worth it to try the same.

This thread applies to PlanetSide 1.

To lower the resolution in PS2:

Once the game has started (you clicked play from the launcher), before you select your character click on "settings" in the lower right corner. Then hit 'Graphics' and it should let you pick from any list of resolutions.

If you've messed up and the game won't start because the resolution set is outside your monitor, you can manually set the resolution inside useroptions.ini file.

To find and edit your userioptions.ini, follow these steps. The game has to be installed using SOE's own standalone client for this, as Steam hides this file somewhere inaccessible to common folk.

With neither the game nor the download client running, open your useroptions file typically located in C:\Users\Public\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games\PlanetSide 2.
Make a backup of the file already there by creating at copy in the same folder.
Open the file and at the top, you'll see a list of settings, two of which read "FullscreenWidth" and "FullscreenHeight". Change these two to match your desktop resolution.
Save the file, close notepad and try and start the client again.

Follow the steps above. If you can't/aren't comfortable with following the steps above, you may simply try re-installing the game (be sure to actually uninstall from within the control panel and do not simply delete files). If you don't know how to do that... well, ask your dad to do it for you.
