I did a search and nothing came up, but my search-fu skills are weak so I apologize if this has been discussed. Question is will there be addons/mods support for the game?

At the very least will I be able to edit the sound files? I don't have anything against the music, but if I get the chance I'm sure as hell putting Guile's Theme for my combat music.

We don't know for sure, Higby has hinted at modifiable UIs a bit but I doubt this stuff *would be in at launch.

I doubt it,
a) cheating, if you can replace assets it's really easy to game the engine into giving you and advantage.
b) monetary loss, as these customizations are what they're selling.
c) effort, it's very hard to allow these to be swapable.

Yeah for MMOs the most mod support I've seen is UI only. In general they don't want you mucking with their game.

However all in-game *data* will be available via webservices, so add-on creators can do whatever they like with that. It doesn't have to be limited to website applications.

Exactly.

That's why they will have the constant effort to prevent cheating in the game. I know a lot of it is based on finding people who are exploiting things, but I am almost positive they will be looking for cheaters as well. Perhaps like Hamma said, it will be released later on, esp. if Higby has hinted at the option.

Plus, with the huge influx of new players, I'm sure people will bring the expectation from other games to have these. Not saying that's a good thing, but I'm sure it will be wanted by more than a handful of people.

Hopefuly not. At least nothing that has anything to do about simplifying the player's performance.

In my PvP centric game, I'd certainly hope not.

While this time around I won't actually have to worry about damage meters, customizable UI's always have some room for exploits. I'm thinking one very basic mod would place some kind of target marker ahead of opponents moving in a direction for accurate shots.

Ah, well thank you for the answer.

Always so much paranoia attached to mod/addon debates. I have confidence if SOE did end up putting mod/addon support in, it would be closely monitored. And if it doesn't end up working it can always be scrapped. All I'm saying is, if SOE can make it work, I'm sure the community could come up with some awesome stuff that could add more depth to the game.

I'm sure we would just see UI customizations I doubt they would go the crazy level of WoW or something.
