View Full Version : Any other TR bummed about the apparent slogan change?

The winner of the slogan contest a year or so ago won with "Loyalty BEYOND death." It seems like now it's "Loyalty UNTIL death." Big difference. "Loyalty until death" is so ho-hum, it's like "death and taxes" or "I came, I saw, I conqured." Nothing unique really. But "loyalty beyond death" sounded much more unique; loyalty ran so strong that even your spirit, soul, and mind were to the TR. This was even more meaningful that death was only temporary in Auraxis, so that loyalty beyond death was physically impossible, showing the dedication and severity of the slogan. "Loyalty until death?" Phooey!

Not TR but I agree. "Loyalty Beyond Death" has a much better meaning.

Cheers,

Beyond Death works better imo especially because of the whole respawn nanites lore.

Though I like "Victory is our tradition" even better.

I personally prefer "LOYALTY ON THIS PARTICULAR SERVER", but that's just me :P

TR are a professional military. Military units pretty well never change their slogan unless they're being merged with a new unit and their old identity is being supplanted or something. So unless the TR back home are loyal beyond death on account of being zombies, them retaining a traditional motto which does not reflect the fact that they're now in a game where everyone respawns would make sense.

It's been 'Loyalty Until Death' since 2003. And it will remain so.

Deal.

Technically, since they don't actually die, they sort of mean the same thing.

"LOYALTY UNTIL DEA-"*BANG*

Respawns...

"Your choice, purple or blue?"

But ya, "Beyond" death had more meaning, but saying "Loyalty Until Death" has a bit more realistic and down to earth charm to it, easier to relate to.

Indeed, as it stands now our loyalty ends the first time we get killed.

im gald they not switching to the ones there, I cant say im a fan of we are tomorrow. They should have gone with my VS slogan of "Technology is Fabulous!" such a good fit.

I remarked in that old status that it was barely different to the original.

I prefer the original, but do see the merit in "Beyond Death" as a "sequel slogan".
I still don't personally like it.

I preferred my entry:
"Law through Fire"

;)

In the mean time this seems like a perfectly fine issue to moan about. :p

"Loyalty Beyond Death" doesn't really sound right to me. It doesn't roll off the tongue like "Loyalty Until Death".

I got a good TR slogan. How about "Terrain Republic,We all really suck big wankers".

Has a nice ring to it.:groovy:

Probably a mistake that will be corrected, or maybe their focus groups determined that newcomers to the game were confused and angered by the concept of virtues existing after the point of death.

Unfortunately my beloved VS got the short end of the slogan stick. "We are tomorrow" sounds like a bad 80's pop collaboration. Guess we can't have the best of everything. :o

I'm sorry, but we'd rather not steal the NC's slogan. :D

I like Loyalty Beyond Death, I just think 90% of the people shouting the slogans at this point are PS1 vets who remember Loyalty Until Death. Maybe if we get a few more videos using the Loyalty Beyond Death slogan it'll catch on.

To me, it does not matter either way as both are good slogans.

However, I would think that "Loyalty until death" would not be changed, as the TR seem to be big on tradition.

I'm TR, don't like either one. I don't think your slogan should advertise or even address your dying.

/cracks open his ancient 3-CD set in the battered paperboard case with LOYALTY UNTIL DEATH emblazoned on the inside in big white-on-red letters

No. Let's not.

I always thought Loyalty Until Death was more a slogan for the Player rather than the admittedly cookie cutter avatar on the screen. Makes perfect sense in that context.

Garem

You could just as well read "Loyalty Until Death" as when Death actually occurs, the person ceases to exist. With nanite-respawning, the conventional meaning of death does not mean the same thing it once did.

"Loyalty Until Death" means loyalty until it is impossible and irrelevant. Nothing save an ultimate end can stop the loyalty to the cause. Only be utter termination will the person cease or surrender his or her loyalties. Redefine death in an appropriate context and I think it stops mattering. Beyond death, Until death- with respawning, they mean the exact same thing.
