View Full Version : How much money have YOU spent on SOE games/subs over the years?

I totaled mine up from my first payment (2/8/03), which was for Station Pass Sub so I could play Infantry. I think Infantry was F2P, but had some incentives for getting a Station Pass. Two days later (2/10/03) it shows my first EQ sub. I remember buying the whole package of Everquest expansions which was up to Planes of Power at that time. The discs came in a F'ing golden chest! It was such nerd rage for my little 13 year old, seventh grade self.
My first Planetside subscriptions was on 7/8/03. I probably bought the game on 6/8/03. I feel like I remember starting to play around a week after the game released. My payment history shows $74.94 spent on Planetside. I imagine the original game cost around $30-40, so I've probably spent more like $110 on PS.
My last payment to SOE was 7/7/10 (give me a new game to pay for SOE!) for an EQ2 sub and I don't even think I played it that month, but forgot to turn of the auto renew function.
So, totaling up all the subscriptions from 2003 to 2010, I've given SOE $515.24. Is that a lot? A little? I don't know. I'd say that $500 for over seven years of entertainment (not consecutively, mind you) isn't a bad deal. Would I do it again? Would I tell my former 13 year old self to buy that Station Pass? I'm not sure. I might have given him a drum kit instead, but I digress.
The $515.24 is for mostly subscriptions. I probably bought a few expansions with that as well, but I also bought the games and expansions in retail stores. So I assume I've spent more like $700-800 on SOE online games.
So enough about me, how much have YOU spent on SOE games? I think the person who has spent the most deserves immediate PS2 beta access!

Wow, I didn't do a spreadsheet or anything to be accurate so I may have missed $100 in either direction, but my primary EQ account is at $1,977. And the current account website only shows payments back to 2001.
This includes expansions and character transfer robbery fees. I hate numbers so I'm not going to add up my secondary account but it's probably $800-1000.
MMOs iz serious bizness.

I play Mabinogi on and off. I saved ALL of my cards. They total up to a little over $1000. That's over the course of one or two years, before stopping for a long time, and not counting paypal transactions.
I plan on spending a lot in Planetside if they give me a lot to buy. If they throw armor pieces onto the cash shop to customize our outfits with, I may just buy them all up. I definitely want a trenchcoat under my armored vest for when I got to Esamir. Looking like a Terran Republic imperial snowtrooper would be a dream come true.
EDIT: I really don't know how much I spent on PS. Let's go with "not enough."
Never played EQ.

If my calculations are correct... about $2000.
Obviously not enough to qualify for the PS1 free time, heh.

I wouldn't know how to track it, I've only recently started paying for my own account. For most of my life my dad paid for it and we'd get free expansions and stuff for EQ, EQ2... Hell they even gave us a free copy of Planetside (thats how I found out about it)

I think SOE has received the most money from me out of any other gaming company. Blizzard get's second place. I spent a lot of money on FFXI and Darkfall for a little while, but some of that was from purchasing gold/gil and/or items.

I started playing eq back in '02 and kept an account until '08, thats about a thousand bucks. If you factor in all of the expansions I spent a lot of money on soe products. Loved every minute of it too.

$0. I've never really trusted Sony enough to buy a PS3, and I have this impression that they only make PS3 games and MMOs.
As for MMOs, I just don't subscribe to those because for the most part, I don't enjoy the genre as it tends to be grindy, repetitive, and lacking in story (and when it has story, it makes no sense - for example WoW, where every player has the exact same quests from the exact same NPCs, as if they haven't already been done).
I have played DCUO a bit, but I'm not really invested in it enough to want to buy stuff from their store. I think I have a level 10-15 character, and another lower level than that, and only rarely log in, when I feel like playing something with superheroes in it whose plot feels exciting-ish instead of boring and terrible (Cough City of Heroes cough, which I tried for... two days before quitting because of the awful plot/quests - although the teleport power and call-your-questgiver-instead-of-returning mechanics were nice).
I look forward to PlanetSide 2 in the hopes that it will be different from every other MMO I have tried.
(I have not tried Tribes Ascend. I read the TOS/EULA, said "What. I [can't|won't] agree to this," and shrugged because I had no expectation that I would even enjoy a game whose entire premise is Whoever-Has-The-Fastest-Reaction-Speed-And-Aimbot-Wins)
Little less than 1000 $ planetside 1 and ever quest mostly

Original game cost + (monthly fee x months played) = total.
I played everquest for about 3 months back when it was only $10 a month. Quit when they popped it up to $12 a month.
$30 + ($10 x 3) = $60
Then I played SWG for 6 months before finding that there is no end game.
$45 + ($15 x 6) = $135
And... there you go. A grand total of $195. :D
We'll see if PS2's premium features/content can pull more out of me than that.

More like Everquest from 2000 to 2009, EQ2 for 3 months, PS1 for ~1.5 years.
Forgot to average out the sub cost though, so probably more around $1600.

2 planetside game boxes in feb 2004 1for me 1 for wife.
2 planetside core combat boxes 1 for me 1 for wife - they gave it away 3 months later to everyone for free.
2 accounts 1 for me - 1 for wife $360 per year.
Way over $1500.00 - but a happy wife makes it worth it.

No idea, but probably less than I'll spend on PS2 if it turns out to be decent. I'm excited now, but my expectations can be easily crushed by an inferior product. It's still bound to have a longer shelf life than T:A has had.

I've never purchased a single SOE product, nor have I ever even played one of their games. That probably wouldn't be likely to change any time soon if it wasn't for PS2 and its F2P model. They want to make an incredible game and give it to me for free, so now I want to give them a bunch of my money. It's a truly brilliant business model.

i paid around 500/700 to soe for ps1.
i did have a time i had a ps1 sub and a other game sub called ww2:battleground europe.
i liked that more after playing ps1 for a few years and stopped ps1 and kept playing battleground europe.
0$. but PS2 could change that if they make a decent FPS game.

I don't even want to think about it >.> probably in the several thousands. 12 mo/year * $15/mo * 9 year = $1,620
I also played some EQ2, Star Wars, and EQ1 on the side.. hell.. even a month of that other failed RPG I forget the name.

I haven't subscribed to an SOE game since Nov 15th 2005 so not very much for me. I'm also not the kinda gamer who will generally play a game for years as I get bored and move on. I generally play an MMO I like for a month or two and then quit and come back a year later. There's just lots of other games to play out there and having to pay a subscription stops me from picking it up as often as I'd like. So I'm loving how they've gone for the F2P model with Planetside 2 because it means I don't have to feel like I've got to burn through the game in a month before my sub runs out. It means I can play fewer hours but not get burnt on it at fast so I'll stay playing it over and year or two before it becomes dated.

Around $170 in subscribtions, plus the purchase price of EQ, SWG and PS1 + CC.
Not really that much considering we are talking more than a decade.

Wow, you guys mean it :D
Well, I bought PS1+Core Combat, don't know what it was back then.
I subscriped PS1 in 2004, I think... (or was it 2005?) for about 4 months.
So, maybe $90?

11-13 years of SOE subscriptions, EQ1, EQ2, PS, SWG, POTBS, many many many expansion packs.
I would say in the neighborhood of $2000. If you tell my wife about this thread i will kill you...
Of course there are a lot of non-SOE games that i have paid for too. I have not been without a gaming subscription since 1999.
Once again, do not tell my wife.

I'm probably getting up somewhere near $600 total. Bought both Planetside and Pirates of the Burning Sea. Never bought another month after the free for PotBS but thats still $50.
Planetside subs robbed me of both time and money but I'll be damned if I didn't love the shit out of the majority time spent in PS.
Around 400ish.
EQ1, EQ2, SWG+Jump to Lightspeed, Vanguard SOH, DC Universe.

From what's been reported, you may have spent the most on SOE games so far.
If anyone here goes over $5,000 I think SOE should award them a mini lightning that they can drive around and shoot small (non)explosive objects out of.

I have spent roughly $250 dollars on the Planetside over the last six years. It was money well spent in my opinion and I would even go so far as to call it a bargain as $250 over six years is nothing even for the high school student that was me 6 years ago.

5 years of EverQuest, of which 3 with 2 accounts, subbed to DC Universe Online from launch (3 month recurring). Too lazy to do the math...

I'd prefer a variant of the flamethrower that blows clouds of dollar bills in order to blind or distract your enemies.
