What do you guys think about this vertical jet pack thing?

It seems kind of tribes meets Planetside.

Planetside 1 had jet packs for Vanu MAXs. Also, vertical combat is good.

Sounds like it will be fun. It's limited to light assault so I see no problems with it really. You do know that the VS had a ES MAX with ability to jet jump just like the PS2 one will right? And that was ES, meaning the other empire's didn't have it. Everyone will have it in PS2.

Planetside 1 had jetpacks for the maxes.

They're more like the Battlefront 2 jetpacks than the Tribes jetpacks from all appearances.

I'm fully aware the Vanu has jet packs with their max units. Just wondering what people think about it now.

In tribes i think the jetpacks give you incredile maneuverability. From the PS2 vid it looks like these give you ok movement.

Not certain I've actually seen what each empire jet pack looks like. Are they empire specific as far as looks are concerned?

Couple that with more difficult to use automatics and a lot fewer explosives and you've got something vastly different.

Jet packs are totally Tribes exclusive and in no way fit in a general Sci Fi setting.

I suggest Giant Spring Shoe implementation immediately.

It was one of myt first thoughts, however, since the use seems pretty limited and it will be used to get into position (I think) I think it's fine and a good addition.

The difference is PS2 jetpack will just help you jump over walls and get up someplace high. Lots of jetpacks do that.
Tribes jetpacks also got you up to high places, but are also used mostly to keep your speed going uphill while riding around with no friction.

So, other than a jetpacks main function: getting you up somewhere high. I don't see much similarity.

Except Tribes is known for skiing.

Not a damn thing in common with Tribes, unless we can skii in PS2. At which point, I just wouldn't give a damn.

I really like the idea. I think it will add an entirely new dynamic to the combat! Should MAX's be able to do it? hmmm. LA's? YES!
