So PlanetSide 2 has a day/night system. That is awesome, and I am glad we have it.

Does the lighting have the same state across an entire continent at a time, or does it actually act as if there are time zones where the sun rises in the east and sets in the west? I feel like it could be very tactically significant to select target objectives based on whether they will have more or less light because of an sunrise or sunset in progress.

Beyond that, it will really help make things more believable, more immersive for players.

Does anyone know if anything has been announced regarding staggered lighting effects based on the sun's position, and differential sunrise / sunsets across continents?

In the context of time and timezones, the continent isn't quite big enough to really see a huge difference from east to west coast. They stated before that each continent will have its own timezones so from that standpoint there will be different times of day between each one.

I'm surprised they would even do different timezones between continents, you would think they would have a server wide TZ and that be it. Makes sense if they wanted people to have the option of choosing whatever timezone with their character though.

If the map was maybe like 10 times bigger then Cyssor sure. Otherwise its a bit weird going a few bases over and have it be dark imo.

Does anything in the story or lore say Auraxis is smaller than Earth? I'm no mathematician, but if we see 4 or 8 day/night cycles per day, the planet is small enough that one continent could see differences in sun position...

Technically yes, but its not ideal for a cont to have different time zones IMO. Maps are too small really.

They stated this in a previous interview, they want the day/night cycles to go by within a hour, so players can have a complete experience with that system, then having them time set on IRL time, which would be LOOOOONGGGGG.

Higby said before that he wanted time zones across continents. So, when it was night in one, it would be day in another.

I forget whether he said that was actually working yet or not....

The continent is only 8km across....How many timezones do you want to fit in that?
