I thought I'd purchase this for anyone who is looking to buy a laptop. Personally I had been looking for a laptop for college and moderate gaming, but hated how most all laptops with decent GPUs looked, in addition to weighing over 8lbs. An alternative would be Macbooks for moderate gaming needs as well as good processing power. I enjoy Mac computers, but I don't agree with some of the ethical choices Apple has made in recent years.
I found this laptop (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152349) on Newegg which offers great hardware for $1,200, as well as comes with an Xbox, which I plan to sell to cover the accidental damage 2 year warranty I purchased with it ($173). The Nvidia GeForce GTX 660m (http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-660M.71859.0.html) card offers surprisingly good power for a mobile GPU. It can run BF3 on high and nearly run BF3 on ultra. I think it will be plenty for running Planetside 2 on high settings. The laptop weighs under 5.5lbs, which is awesome. This makes it something that I can actually carry to school and not break my arm/back.
The laptop has an mSATA connector on the mobo, so I will be adding a 256gb mSATA SSD so I don't have to replace the 750GB HDD the laptop comes with.
I'm not a big fan of the aesthetics of the computer, but it's better than some of the stuff I've seen out there. I wish PC oems would start going with more aluminum cases, but that'll take some time.
With equivalent hardware, a monitor, and peripherals you would probably spend MORE on a desktop, though you'd get better processing power on most i7 desktop CPUs as well as a bigger 1080p screen. When comparing costs on Newegg for a desktop built, I used a gtx 550ti for comparable graphical processing power to the gtx 660m.
Anyways, I thought I'd post this for anyone considering a laptop purchase and would like something that can run PS2 on good settings when it comes out.
EDIT: Reposting URL for laptop as it's a bit hard to see where link is on original post.
