I already know tramel confirm a while ago thats we cant swim in planetside 2 but ... Down the road if swimming or having Mini submarine of anything like thats can be ad it can Ad a lots more strategie in some (( water continents )) with some island you can planned suprise atack by the deep sea and some stuff like this !

But also been able to swim if their is lake and some stuff like thats is a must have at least be able to swim over the surface but having a (( crysis like )) swiming stuff could be insanly cool !

Freedom of moovement not feeling to restricted is always nice to me !

You'd sink like a rock filled with more rocks... unless you have vanu tech.

Can't really say I mind not being able to swim in PS. Never really seen an FPS make any real use of infantry and water. Even in battlefield 3 there wasn't any depth to it other than punishing the player for bailing.

You can swim. There is just no water around.

Depending on what players want and how development goes, we could end up with swimming along with naval vessels.

Higby has given us a "maybe"

Where you gonna swim at? Can't swim at the edges because its blocked off because people went afk there in PS1. Oh wait...

I'm totally okay with people wanting to swim in PlanetSide2, they shouldn't be able to fire their weapons with any accuracy whatsoever if they can fire their weapons at all. But honestly, I don't see swimming necessary for anything because, as was mentioned above, very few instances where you'll be expected to swim, and if they did put in naval craft, there would be something as simple as a boat for everyone to take instead of swimming. We don't have to worry about it at all, if I may be so bold :)

If a MAX is ever able to swim then something is seriously wrong. :)

Seeing heavily armoured infantry swim would be rather silly.

That's why when we get naval combat, light assault, or perhaps even unarmored classes, will be essential. You can play MAX or heavy assault, don't fall off.

Tray said you cant , also their is not much river or lake on Indar but some others continents can have some and offer new gameplay mechanics , thats why i would like to have it even a few secs under water like crysis or far cry this could be really interesting only the MAX should not be able to swim since its more a vehicules than a caracters !

Its a shame naval combat will probably be little more than floating tanks.

I would like to see an archipelago continent in the future, where you have plenty of islands that don't have to all be connected together, but also some underwater bases that would deny the area over it to enemy boats (would have anti-ship automatic turrets or something like that).

The same systems that keep armor comfy for the user also doubles as air pockets within the armor that allow for everyone to swim when submerged.

So I solved it on the lore side, but there's other technical considerations.... Creating the swimming animation, surfacing and breathing, maybe even treading water while poorly aiming and firing a weapon, changing the model from the usual upright axis to one that's more flat and swimming-like.

I'd like to see swimming as an ability, but it looks like there's very little water we'll be able to access in PS2, so it seems kinda unnecessary at the moment.

Guild Wars 2 has some interesting underwater combat (you actually get unique abilities to use while underwater). I liked the way characters bound when running underwater in the Vashir zone of World of Warcraft. That had a neat feeling to it. I could see PS2 having its own take on the underwater world, in a way that made sense for the game and the lore.

From a lore standpoint, unless Auraxis is covered primarily in dirt, then there would be a lot of resources in the crust underneath the oceans and lakes. It would make sense that the factions would want to have access to them and if one faction is benefiting from it, then all of them will want in on the action!

Pressure suits, mini-subs, full sized subs, ships, and all of those cool nautical things could add a fun and unique aspect to PS2 that other online shooters won't have. It's not really any different than adding space based or other world based combat. It's just more to enjoy (or ignore if you're not into those things).

I have seen the maps, yes. As have many others. They were ripped from the pre beta client that was around few weeks ago. None of the three starter maps have any rivers or lakes.

Yep, definitely written by Stew

I can see the second you pas a transition point, a mini sub forms around you of nanite material, that way you can effectively have soldiers underwater, just mini subs. This doesn't break lore and skips 99% of the animations as the sub forming could just be a particle effect as it transitions.

Well... I am going to have to back the OP on this. Its not a big deal to me, however... my daughter asks me about swimming in almost every game I play... and she is stoked, and hoping to be soaked, in this game. My guess is, its unlikely we will see this for a long time, if ever.

Lorewise there's always a way, and i think it adds a little more flavor and options to the game, so i'd like it.
Sure it'll be more work so it won't be there at release, but i bet they'll want to do it later on.

Anybody but a cloaker being able to swim with multigigafucktons of equipment and miniguns and rocket packs and ammo is fucking retarded, even in a sci-fi setting.

A cloaker being able to swim will leave a nice V-shaped wake pointing right at him, which is unclear on the concept of a low-observable troop type, which is also fucking retarded.

Well, they were outlines not detailed continents... Those shapes might not even be the same and they do have small lakes...

I sure would like to see that in the future. Like this arma video i'm sure by the year 2600 Planetside time we will have under water guns.

I think it's necessary if there is ever going to be a continent with rivers or lakes in the center. Always nice to be able to take "the long way" if you feel lucky.

Archimedes would claim that you need about 1L of air to offset 1kg, so I think you would need some pretty bloaty underwear to offset a HA suit + equipment :)

But it should be no problem to technobabble swiming problems away in a world with nanites. I just dont see it adding much to the game

Well if we are abel to swim, I want at least a little speedboat pulling a huge banana.

Oh and of course a mancini outfit.

No seriously, swimming and games never worked out really well unless you mean in Super Mario.

I'd just like to ask how often infantry soldiers are asked to swim in combat operations. Is this really worth development time with the mechanics, necessary animations and effects that implementing swimming would entail? What if we could have different vehicles, weapons, or class abilities instead?

Sorry, but I don't see how swimming should be a development priority.

some navel warfare would be good. im not talking huge battleships or aircraft carriers ( though that would be awesome ) but some spec ops rigid raiders or fast attack boats down rivers would be cool
