Reading into that statement I would say SOE is targeting early to mid July if they can safely confirm it will be out before the end of July. We're so close to the awesomeness, I can't wait!

I'm thinking next week invites will go out and downloads can begin. Shortly there-after, the servers will open.

Mind you, I'm assuming it will be a timed closed beta, where the servers will go down briefly before the next "phase." I could be wrong and they may just leave the servers open as they white list more people every one or two weeks.

Really hoping it's the latter even if I do get selected in the first wave.

been in pretty many closed betas and i can tell u it doesnt matter if u have a key or not.a closed beta registration is enough i can tell you.

right now im closed beta testing dust514(ps3 mmofps exclusive that plays in the same universe as eve) and i did not had anything while plenty had keys etc.

took me 2 weeks after registration to get in while some where waiting more then a few months.

not saying the keys are lame.but i dont think it makes a difference about joining beta.

it depends on how they will do the beta.if they go from a few to more u can say yes a key is good.

but maybe they will go all out soon after a little small test and then it doesnt matter.

I've listened/read pretty much everything so far... And I do NOT remember anyone saying 'by the end of the month' in regards to beta until today. There was a plurality of weeks until beta as of E3. Only NOW do we have a 'by the end of the month' and the month is July and I'm happy happy happy.

In a broad stretch, a few weeks can be anything under two months. If they're not certain if it's going to be slightly less than a month or slightly more than a month, a few weeks is actually more appropriate than saying "beta will be in a month."

Unless you can provide a source where they actually said "by the end of the month," because I don't recall anything that specific and it wouldn't surprise me if that was speculation extrapolated from the "a few weeks" statements.

As far as I can recall, "a few weeks" was the most solid information we had gotten to date, and "before August" is now the firmest due date we've gotten. But again, if you can provide a source, I'll concede. For now, I'm pretty sure they've just been deliberately vague and playing a little fast and loose with unspecific terms such as "a few."

He also said he had some AMAZING updates for SWG that we'd all love
(if you played SWG, you know exactly what I'm talking about).

He also said they weren't going to call this game Planetside 2.

We've known PS2's beta was getting closer and closer lately, and now we've slowly been getting less and less vague indications of when it will start. Considering that it's unlikely that they'll pull another Planetside: Next by rebranding Planetside 2 and putting another year or more of development into it before showing anything more, I'd say that this is a pretty easy statement to consider plausible. Worst case scenario, they run into a snag and have to push it back a little further, but that could happen at any point in the process, so knowing that they think they are just about ready for beta is pretty cool.

I'd think not even PC Gamer-key owners are certain they will be allowed into the beta before the end of the month. They will certainly let people trickle in beta in groups, I'm just hoping they will do this on a fairly regular basis, can't wait to 'test' the game. :trrocks:

I've been pretty confident since E3 that the beta would start in July. There was a part of me that hoped it would start a week or two after E3 but I knew it was wishful thinking. I'm just excited that it's literally going to be soon, and not vaguely soon =P

Also, for anyone who doesn't have a key yet: Stop slackin and get on twitter!! The twitter keys are super easy to get, just get involved with their contests and be cute, they like cute ;)

Devs always talk big at Trade Shows and they've been changing the predicted Beta date since last year. Seeing them actually start to nail it down is pretty exciting.

i trully think u will be fine for sure.they mentioned they try to make it run on pc's wich are 5 years old so i dont see why u should upgrade......

I my experience, those of the Management Clan often suffer from Premature Press Release, and has an undue faith in Powerpoints ability to affect reality.

So I am not calling anybody as liar, but the Betas isnt out before its out. Promising news, but things can change a lot in a beta phase.

not necessarily. I mean, I'm pretty confident that it'll be by the end of this month - but I wouldn't rule out that their tech test doesn't go as planned and they need to push it back past august.

So if it begins next week, a few is around 5-6 weeks of time. So if the E3 quote of closed in a few weeks and open a few weeks after that and launch soon after that; we're in open around the end of August and a holiday release after a long open, hence we'll be back to soon. :]

not necessarily. I mean, I'm pretty confident that it'll be by the end of this month - but I wouldn't rule out that their tech test doesn't go as planned and they need to push it back past august.

That is true, but I'm doubting Smed would have replied to a tweet giving such specific he he wasn't at least 90% sure it would happen at that time.

im wasting my time on the closed beta of dust514 :D

this way i can keep playing till ps2 releases and i support sony because its a fpsmmo shooter in eve online universe exclusevly for ps3 (they actually tied dust into eve online and that feeling is very epic.)

Meh, it's not so bad... It really should have been crap, but I was pleasantly surprised. I like it a lot better than a whole host of other multiplayer FPS games that have come out the last couple of years.

It seems this was a "promise" safe enough that Smed was willing to make.

I dunno. I haven't fully forgotten -- or forgiven -- what Smed did to SWG.

I'm not really into the gaming thing, but I was at the right place at the wrong time, and... well. I was there. I saw Smed fuck up on a Biblical scale.

We'll see. But when we do, I'm taking Higby and T-Ray's words for it, and no one else's.
