Personality type per empire experiment

Id like to propose a psychological experiment to find out what personality types are drawn to which empires, and if theres a direct correlation to these personality types based on certain aspects of each empire.

Im not sure if anybody would be interested in doing this but I think it might actually be kindve interesting if people will participate. It will only take a few minutes to do.. I realize alot of people wont participate in this experiment and thats fine too but if we can get enough people it may tell us about what the draw is of certain empires and also people can learn what personality type they are which is always interesting. I know this is just a game, but lets face it, were all bored or we wouldnt be on a forum talking about a game that hasnt released yet lol. So i figured why not? Since ive been kindve wondering about this since i found out about this game. Im not a psyche student or anything, just have an interest in this kindve stuff and thought it might make for some interesting conversation if nothing else. Also if any psychologists/psychiatrists/ psyche students etc are lurking on the forums and wanna give input on the experiment then feel free to hop in.

The way this experiment will work is as follows.

Step 1: take the test here which will give you your personality typehttp://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp

Step 2: List your personality type and a brief description of it the test gives info on this you can copy and paste (IE: mine is INFJ)

Step 3: List what empire you chose and specifically why you chose it. (IE: Lore, the colors, your friends were there, Weapons and vehicles, etc)


Once this thread has ran for about a week or so ill try to add up all the data and give percentages of everything as the "final" result

Like i say this is just something to kill some time and might be kindve interesting to find out, as long as the mods of the forum dont start thinking im working for some game marketing company doing research or something and close it down :lol:

TR's ROF and Color themes have always drawn my attention, but it's the teamplay and outfit that kept me. I play all 3 factions, but BRTD keeps me grounded with the TR.

I chose VS for a few reasons, one being the scientific background over the TR and NC lore. I dont like the Tr and NC for reasons i can easily state, cant think of a reason to not like the VS.

Also chose it cause people on the forums say it's less manly,gay...and the people that are going to play it dont judge it like that, they just /disco and have a party while letting the haters spend their time...hating. For some reason I want to play with the group negatively judged for the dumbest reasons.

Also their armor, weapons, and vehicles look cool to me in ps2. I wouldn't have played them in ps1 though cause of cosmetics, so have to include LOOKS in in my reason of choice also. Plus VS has all the hot chicks... bad ass underdog ftw?

According to this test my personality type is INFJ.

I chose to play NC primarily because their weapons are by far the most appealing to me (I have a penchant for shotguns and bolt action sniper rifles), and to a much lesser extent because I like the more industrial aesthetic. I have the most sympathy for them lore-wise, but all of the factions can be pretty despicable depending on your perspective. I actually prefer the VS color scheme to all the others, but the blue and gold is my second favorite, and we all have to make sacrifices I suppose.

I didn't play Planetside 1 and am taking an open mind to Planetside 2. My decision will be based upon these criteria with 1 being the highest importance:

1. Friends / guild / community
2. Feel of the vehicles and weapons
3. Looks ... what can I say, the visual aspect of the game is compelling too.

OP, good luck with your survey. It seems like an interesting and worthwhile datamapping. But, I think each faction would be best served with each personality type. For instance, too many leaders and not enough followers always leads to dissention and disaster. Too many followers leads to zerging and underdefended borders.

A good faction needs many different personality types, each performing their strongest roles. Whether it be General Patton leading the offensive or Dale Carnegie generating the unity to achieve multiple goals, even leadership has it's own shades.

I will be interested to see if there really is any strong correllation between personality types and faction choice. Good thread. Good luck.

In PS1 I chose to be NC because they seemed to be the good guys judging by the Planetside manual's brief explanations about different factions. They were Freedom fighters fighting against opression.

Now the back stories have changed and no one can claim the moral high ground this time, so i need to read the new lore to decide my faction. If NC are just a private army for megacorporations trying to break free from the republic and its restrictions, I might choose to side with the republic - unless their back story is even more repulsive.

EDIT: Vanu are just weird lobsters.

EDIT 2: I have now read the new backstory parts 1 - 3 and I'm still NC. Situation is dodgy, but TR took the first shot and left the peace negotiation table. That won't fly with me.

I base my selection on how the faction plays and how its community generally is. I couldn't care less for lore and I think all the factions have some good and bad aesthetics.

Firstly since nothing is perfect then neither is this personality test, i mean with a series of rigid questions with only two possible answers it is likely that there can be inaccuracies, which i suspect is the case.

However it could be true that there are a lot of INTJ individuals here, being gamers in a forum based on a Sci-fi game. But it is also possible that some answered the questions in the test not because they were accurate to them, but because they wanted it to be accurate to them.

I chose VS originally because my friend was in it, but I discovered I liked it better than the other two empires. The TR has its proficiency, the NC has its big guns, but the VS has... style? It seems to me that it is the most artistically and mechanically unique faction, utilizing weapons with different falloff mechanics and also f*cking hovertanks, along with a stylish look that seems to be focused more on sleek shapes than "manliness".(No offense to the TR and NC, ya look good but I prefer the VS!)

I also mainly play Infiltrator as a solo yet helpful role... I won't be a lone squadless wolf in PS2 but I won't be near the front line taking out fools for glory and kills. I prefer to be behind the lines dropping gens and such, diong indirect things to help people. Actually, that DOES sound like the personality type listed... I am INFP and NC. Intuitive feeling was 50 % for me and my gut tells me that is pretty accurate :D I play NC because I value personal freedom over anything in the World. I am die on my feet and not a live on my knees type.

I initially playing all 3 Empires but ultimately (and inevitably) chose VS for a whole slew of reasons, of which here's a few (in no particular order):


Purple is my favorite color, and the color of my personal aura (so I'm told)
I luv the VS theme of versatility and mobility, and it fits quite well with my playstyle
The Pulsar/Lancer loadout, IMO the most versatile loadout in the game (although MCG/Striker is a close 2nd)
The VS have style

VS Rexo looks like Samurai Llamellar armour (see below) :D

Vs are the "Enlightened" empire and I've spent much of my life pursuing my own personal enlightenment
IME NC had too many douchebags when I played as one, TR were too militaristic (duh!), but VS were always more cooperative in their gameplay
I don't have to fight Magriders in my Lightning :p
I get to play Starship Troopers (the book, not the craptastic movies) in a VS MAX
VS weapons/equip allow for playstyles not possible on other empires (hovercraft, flying MAXes, instant AP, etc)

we chose vanu (and by we i mean warrior nation back in 03) because the Game Champion gets to lay the framework of the section when it's created over in that clan. So all of us became purple due to one guys decision (and I make fun of him all the time for it) but over time we came to love it. It was kind of like an arranged marriage that you eventually got used to and learn to enjoy. He also chose Markov (west coast) which saddened this Philly boy daily.

I chose the VS because I just love technology. I read up on the basic motives behind each of the empires and I didn't really like the TR and how they do things and I don't think that the NC are well organized enough, though their motives are pure.
The VS just seemed like the perfect choice for me what with the ideal that humankind can and should be advanced with the use of technology.

I chose NC so far because i dislike the weapon mechanics of the other 2 factions. There are other pro's and con. TR and VS are too popular. I hate the NC music but that is not going to make me play another faction. Not really but i guess well all find out in about a week. I have noticed a lot of INTJs like yourself though. Im wondering about other factors too like maybe certain personality types are more apt to take tests like this and others not so much, so that may throw the results off too. Also the fact that this test will only represent people that frequent PSU which im sure will only be a percentage of people that actually play PS2. So many many factors to consider its kindve mind boggling, but like i say this is just for fun so it doesnt have to be super specific i guess and should give some pretty decent results after a week of poll time.

Despite this, it is easy to see in PS1 the different mind sets.

VS- Have this whole mentality of Capture bases by throwing mass unstoppable numbers (GOTR/AT are prime examples).

Most VS have the UNI MAX Cert.. More so then the other two empires FO SHO.

Also it is noted that many VS players don`t really seem to care about K/D. They are more focused on the bases.

NC-

Definitely the empire with the most 'KILL WHORES' Pretty much the polar opposite of the VS in play style, they seem to have many Small outfits focused on kill whoring. You can easily see this when you loggin to TR or VS and see the ungodly amount of NC TOD`s.

NC Players PRIDE them selves on K/D`s , some (WaaWaaweewa anyone?) Even seem to sacrifice enjoyment of the game purely to rack in as many kills as possible.

Certs: Almost all of them seem to have Reaver/ Scatmax, with Jack Hammer not being far behind.

NC seem to wait for you to come to them more then any one else. As to where VS use their maxes Aggressively NC maxes, can often be found camping Generators, or CC`s waiting for cloakers or off gaurd infantry.

TR:

TR seemed to have gained an assault style of its own some how. (As if there were more). As to where the NC tend to drop out of Reavers, TR are totally happy Sacrificing those two cert points to BEEF up infantry/ Infantry support certs. TR clearly have the Best zerg because of this.

Top Certs: HA/Deci or SA.... Pretty much you are considered a noobie if you are carrying anything else.

TR seem to think they have mastered the whole ADAD thing, As to where NC or VS will try to tank you (NC) Or Run past you (VS) TR simply go CRAZY on the AD keys.

I don't really like the description here (http://typelogic.com/istj.html) of ISTJ, it implies that I merely act cold and aloof when it's the other way around. I think overall participation per empire should be noted as well.

If you look at the poll asking which empire you are, it is about 31-32% across the board with the other 5% having not decided yet.

But according to the results, the TR is severely lacking in representation with only 24 out of 116 participants (only 20.6%!), with the NC and VS at 45 and 47 respectively (38.7% and 40.5%). You can make your own assumptions, but I thought it was worth pointing out.
