Anyone else think 10 hours PS1 maintenance downtime today may be for something big? Hopefully :).

They're adding 2gb ram to the server.

More importantly, how much time is left of the 10hours???

Edit: seems like we've got around 5 hours left of downtime, whereas it's just gone lunch time in Europe so it's going to eat into prime time today :(

Nice one desertstorm lol. I bet they've got some hefty server clusters running things back there. More like adding 2TB RAM lol. It seems to me they just cant handle the player numbers on PS1 now lots of the vets have come back. They've probably scaled down the server capability over the years due to the drop in player numbers. The ping time to EU has also been appawling this week.
I believe 10hrs downtime = 17:30 GMT will be back up.

I'm hoping they've taken down the systems to fork in a new/revised launchpad and login systems for Planetside2 beta testers.
Anyone seen any hints or comments from the devs what the downtime is for. The SOE Dev desciprtion is completely generic, which is odd for them.

Wow, they're letting the PlanetSide server have 2.25GBs of RAM?!

I'm thinking something kinda seriously bad has happened to the PS1 database. Usual maintenance takes less than an hour.

So either a database hardware failure or some type of data corruption due to today's event. Most likely due to data corruption they are doing a database restore from earlier today, which could take the 10 or so hours given.

It must have been a great Old Oshur event! Too bad I missed it ;(

The PlanetSide servers will go offline tonight, Saturday, July 7th at 11:30 PM Pacific Time for maintenance. Downtime is anticipated to be approximately 10 hours.

It's 5AM PST now, so another ~4.5 hours to go.

Hes Kidding.

Either migrating the whole server, Or a large upgrade. Dont forgot its sunday so staff are not in work. So 10 hours and then 2 hours for someone to pop in and sort it out.

I think Higby has said they have had a major network issue at SOE and are having to install new equipment.... still 10 hours!

Don't get your hopes up. The server got seriously jacked up last night. That's all it is.

See Virragos reply, they are updating hardware.

Because of the 10 hour downtime, i assume its quite a big upgrade. Good stuff. :>

So PS2 will be placed on top of PS1 servers, huh? That explains what Smed meant by a technical test in a few days.

Hardware means more than simply servers and it was network that failed.

Except the second thing, you said nothing to counter my point. :)

Anyway I'm gonna go play some APB, who's with me?

Looks like we are giving the server a good run for it's money. :p

SOE screwed around with the server pop caps last week and made the game unplayable for a noticable percentage of players, they then opened up old oshur which then pushed the system to the breaking point.

this "maintainence"wasn't scheduled so it isn't due to PS2 or SOE would have announced it a few days ago, not 15 minutes before it started.
