View Full Version : Things you already love about PS2

It's easy for Devs to see when people hate something, but they don't always know what we absolutely love already (until they change it and we rage). So here's a thread dedicated to what you LOVE about PS2 so far that you DON'T want them to change!

Killcam (the lack thereof)
Friendly Fire
New Liberator bomb system
Class-specific abilities
No (or limited) 3d spotting
Resource limited grenades

Anyone want to back me up on these? Add to the list?

No (or limited) 3d spotting

Not convinced this is working as it should, but maybe...

*The moving parts presented by Implants/Certs/Various slots are pretty awesome in of themselves (though I'd like more).

*Big maps and a bright color scheme are also quite nice.

I love the new liberator. It's one of the first things that I plan on certing up.
I also like the empire-specific aircraft and the new methods of capturing bases.

And to specify a bit, I made this thread trying to focus on things (as of E3) that we love that they COULD change. I want to let our good Devs know what we like already and want them to keep.

Hex system encouraging in-field combat. The best battles I experienced in PS1 were over hilly terrain, a freaking rock, or a hole in the ground, not bridge and base battles.

Class system: Finally, everyone and their mom won't be a Rexo/HA/AV/med/eng junky. Everyone has a rifle in fact, which is good. Except the MAX units, they have two freakin' cannons, which is awesome. Now every base tool and weapon is available to me, I just might not be piloting the most tweaked out aircraft or have all the fun gadgets on my rifle like that other guy, and I certainly can't wield it all at once.

Lower TTK: Also finally, I won't have to dump what feels like over half a mag into someone's back at point blank while they're pinned into a corner and they're STILL alive and somehow turn around to kick my ass. A lot of newbs quit over similar scenarios, I'm sure. Catching someone off guard should equal a kill if one's aim is true. Period. Watch your six and check those corners, there isn't nearly so much forgiveness for sloppy and careless game play this time around!

Weapon/Armor/Vehicle customization: Because the certs of PS1 were freaking bare-bones and in themselves didn't make my character feel very deep or specialized with each one I got, just less restricted to what I could do. Also, the more solid armor bits I can put on my medic/engineer, the better!

Actual vehicle physics: Holy crap, I might actually enjoy flying this time! On that note, empire specific aircraft and turning the liberator into a gunship. Freaking A.

And need it be mentioned? The massive scale of it all. 2000 players. One map. One goal. For land. For power. Forever.

I really want to play Planetside 2.

-Each faction having a very different feel
-The fact that there are three factions, as opposed to two
-A good amount of depth to weapon/vehicle customization
-The art style. Holy shit I can't tell you how sick I am of having to play BROWN & BLOOM shooters. Happy to see a little bit of color.

The new base capture mechanics. No more hack and twiddle thumbs for 15 minutes. That's win.

Handcrafted continents.

Hex-based map should allow for much better battle variety than the lattice system.

TTK doesn't belong here... the devs have yet to hit the sweet spot on that one (moreso with vehicles, but infantry still go down slightly too quick).

Again, I need to reiterate how nice it is to have a sci-fi game with BRIGHT colors all over the place.

Forge - Light
A REAL Physics engine
The Class system (Specialisation but with lots of variation perfect to me)
Location Specific damage for players and vehicles
F2P but not Pay2Win - Dust 154 is going to be controlled by the massive Eve corporations and the whole game looks bland it will fail which leads to

The Audacity of SOE to not be afraid to use colour and imagination when designing the models and environments making the whole thing look so pretty

I love that Planetside 2 will be Free To Play.

Partially because I can pay however much I want, but mostly because I can get my friends to download it and play it.
They were all really interested in PS1, but didn't want to spend $75 to play for just a month, and have to keep forking out $15 each month they want to keep playing.
This way they can just download it, join up, have a grand ol' time, and if they were interested, pay how much they want to.

I also think the Free To Play model will also have the game last a lot longer. I don't think PS1 died because people got bored or because SOE made some... questionable additions and changes. I think it died because people didn't want to keep paying $15 a month over and over for a game whose graphics and gameplay were becoming more and more outdated. Notice how when SOE gives out free gameplay time, the population skyrockets. So I think having the game be free to play will decrease any population drop-off, as well as having more players in general.

I really need to play before i can tell u what i like and what i dont like.

words do mean nothing to me as i must see it and play it myself before i can judge about something.

so im curious how people can tell in here what they already like or not.

they can talk alot and its a possibility that non of it will happen when it launches. So just wait till u can play and then tell the ups and downs of this game so they can improve it.

To all those that keep saying the new TTKs, while for 1vs1 they are way too high in PS1, remember your going to be in a fight with hundreds of people. Bullets and explosions going everywhere, you will take lots of damage. Lower TTKs than PS1 are needed, but they need to be a bit higher than we have seen so far.

Also you think people wont try to push through doors now? Wait till a few shots can kill em and see how well they try to push now...

I love the high lethality, if you shoot someone they should die or it doesn't feel right. High lethality and better accuracy on weapons also means that we will see more long range combat which is nice or else the large map would we wasted. Also the visual range seems to be really long!

They've already said (way more than they should have to) that cosmetic items will be the only StationCash Exclusive items, so it won't be Pay to Win. See this post by Higgs:
I've addressed this a few times in interviews in the past, but here's the basic gist. Planetside 2 has three fundamental types of items:

Power adding items - items such as grenades, med kits, certain types of implants (like a run speed booster), these items fundamentally alter player power and are acquired exclusively with resources earned in game

Playstyle items - these are sidegrades for vehicles and weapons, these switch up playstyle, and as much as possible are balanced against one-another to not add absolute power. These are available for Resources earned in game or Station Cash.

Non-gameplay affecting items - things like cosmetic skins, resource or xp boosts, etc. These don't have any impact on moment-to-moment gameplay and therefore player power and are available for Station Cash

What do I already love about PS2? Let me explain:

No. There is too much. Let me sum up:

I like pretty much 100% the the things that they are keeping the same from the first game, and I like 95% of the changes that they have made from the first game.

The increased scale of everything, the sped up pacing, the customization, the F2P promise of high populations for years to come... The game looks like it's going to be a lot of fun for me.

Another big thing I love about PS2 is how responsive the developers are to the community. They always address community concerns, but at the same time they don't just bend down to every whim of the players either. This attitude really keeps me hopeful that some of the few things that I'm still not too keen on will either get changed during beta when they prove to be a problem, or they will turn out not to be a problem after all and the devs will be vindicated for sticking to their vision.

As for a few specific things that are new to the game which I love, Light Assault and the Scythe! I've wanted an empire specific fighter (especially for the VS) since 2003, so this is a lock time dream come true. As for LA, I'll miss our MAXes having jump jets, but I always tend to prefer lighter classes anyways, so LA will be an excellent consolation prize.

2. Relatively open development process.
3. VS Infiltrator Concept Art.

5. The general energy and excitement of most forumites as we approach Beta. I might disagree with some people about various things, but it's fun talking with them even on mostly speculative topics.

very impressed with the new infiltrator class and flame throwers on maxes to me is pretty cool even though i never play max units. the new flight mechanics will be a huge upgrade imo for the pilots. new base design will be very welcome with these gigantic new bases. oh and night time combat looks just freaking brilliant. i think those are the biggest upgrades to me from ps1. the graphics/art team did an amazing job in upgrading all 3 empires.
