I didn't notice this upon first viewing of Higby's stream, but a weapon option for the Reaver is clusterbombs.
Description: Cluster bombs trade propulsion for a larger payload. They inherit the vehicle's speed when released and fall to the ground. The bombs do area damage upon detonation.
I was worried for a while that PS2 wouldn't include any air-to-ground weapons besides missiles and rockets (I hadn't seen any real bombs yet), but it looks like we'll all be able to high altitude bomb the crap out stuff just like in PS1. Hurray!

I believe the liberator is also capable of bombing, aside from being a gunship now.

Reaver Tooltips:
Reaver Composite Armor - Adds composite armor on the Reaver Light Aircraft that will add resistance from small arms fire.
Decoy flares - Launches several decoy flares, disrupting lock-ons and any missiles currently tracking the vehicle.
Hellfire Rockets - The Hellfire Rockets are dumb-fire rockets that can do massive damage on direct hits. These rockets are ideal for engaging ground targets from the air.
Coyote A5M - The Coyote Air to Ground Missiles are capable of locking-on to enemy vehicles. Once a lock has been acquired, simply fire the weapon and it will begin tracking your target.
Cluster Bombs - Cluster Bombs trade propulsion for a larger payload. They inherit the vehicles speed when launched and will fall to the ground. Cluster bombs do area damage on detonation.

I can't wait to use my Scythes superior maneuverability to immediately turn and fly straight upwards over a narrow gap between buildings and drop cluster bombs straight down on the unsuspecting heathens below.

Go ahead and sit perfectly still. It makes it all the more easy to blast you out of the sky.

I'll be afterburning straight upwards, for the split second or two that it takes to unload my bombs :D

A needless exposure over the target area. Cool kids toss-bomb (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toss_bombing), and the good ones don't even need a CCIP.

You jelly that the Reaver can't drop a bomb straight down a 30 meter deep 3 meter wide crevice without slowing to a crawl?
Toss bombing is for rookies.

I don't need bombs to kill NC and TR. Pretty sure throwing a box or a phonebook out of my cockpit is enough to kill one of those pathetic stragglers on the ground. Bombs cost money NC and TR aren't worth...

I'd pay money to kill NC and TR, if the money went towards killing them in more rainbowly fabulously colorful ways.

Leaving out the irony that you are, in fact, toss-bombing when you drop your stick flying upwards, I'll inform you that no one's ever been able to wash the stink out of a Reaver cockpit with sufficient skill to make me want to breathe in one.
@Broadside - Continuously Calculated Impact Point. A HUD function that displays an estimation of where ordinance would land if released, based on current airspeed, altitude, heading and elevation, air temperature, munition drag, etc. In more modern aircraft with navigational databases, it also considers the altitude above sea level of the target pip itself. These days, most "dumb" bombs are still given considerable computational assistance before being released.
Here's some candy.

Why waste money on an exterminator when you can just swat the flies with a swatter? Plus...What is more hilarious to imagine? Bombs dropping on a bunch of NC? Or a phonebook crushing some stupid TR?
I want a phonebook mod.

That's what I get for noticing your yellow contributor medal in the top right corner of your post and mentally assuming my brain had just seen an NC logo
I do believe that the scrubbing power of rocks has the power to wash out that Reaver cockpit stink though.
Back on topic, I wonder if the Liberator will get anything similar. We've heard vague stuff about some of it's different weaponry options.

The Lib is pretty iconic - I'd be surprised if it couldn't be certed into a close approximation of its original role.

Stated several times lib will have classic role with being able to spec into more gun ship like role.

Pretty sure flares have a limit to the amount you can have before needed to rearm.

Galaxies dropping payloads of bombs instead of people... I think that would defeat the purpose of the smaller bombers :P
I do really hope to see some very effective use of bombing runs though, but I guess that all depends on the height ceiling of the map. Have it too high and bombers will be untouchable, have it too low and they are suffocating for air.

I wonder how they will be aimed? Maybe it will be something like the CCIP circle that the lib had in PS1, except you'll have to nose over to see it.

If you want to turn the Galaxy into a large bomber just surreptitiously attach C4 to each passenger as they get on and keep the detonators handy as you fly over enemy troops.

It's not impossible. I used to bullseye womp rats in my T-16 back home, they're not much bigger than two meters.

That should change the dynamic of the game pretty significantly from PS1. Every one seater was pretty lackluster against infantry (unless you had great aim with the mossie)

The flight ceiling in PS2 will be much, much higher.
But view distances will be a lot higher as well, so you've got to take that into consideration.

This isn't related to bombs, but will there be dumbfire rockets for aircrafts/AA/AV weapons? Because I don't really like how everything is just "Lock, Fire, Repeat" to take down aircrafts in Battlefield 3.

i would expect the dumbfire rockets to be for AI and AV, as for AA i am expecting AA misiles at long to medium range with guns for up close furballs.
