Planetside had a slight ability for cloak suite to second as outfit recon. Doing things like finding eams's for lib runs, lody loc, etc. There was also the limited use of the (not so good) laze pointer.
I wanted to ask if there will be any expansion in to the recon field of Planetside in Planetside 2?
Do things like a laze that the empire can see and points out eams if you target it. While this idea is not totally thought out maybe a base for the thread to generate idea's.

You can spot for your squad, essentially "lazing" whatever you have spotted for your squad to see where they are. Pretty sure it works on vehicles the same as infantry.

You can always point the laser in their eye and eventually blind them, if they're NC and too dumb to realize what is happening.

Well, will be certs for being able to do stealth 100% of the time, and during one of the streams mentioned "recon" but can't remember what they said. If anyone recalls that and can share.

Didn't they mention things like sticky cams and the sorts for infiltrators? I remember that infils who aren't sniping will supposedly play the role of "gadgeteers". I imagine that recon gadgets will be available for infils to use right away, if not, they definitely should give them recon gadgets down the line.

Sticky Cams would be cool, especially if you could detonate them :)

I remember hearing something similar.
If you think about it... What else can an infiltrator do? There is no longer "hacking" so almost no point in going infiltrator unless sniping.
Guess you can still do cat and mouse games to keep a team/squad busy for awhile, but not really worth it with the size this time around.

There's hacking, there were dedicated certs for it in the infiltrator tree from what we've seen. One of those was advanced equipment terminal hacking, and advanced systems hacking was the other.

The infiltrator's role in PS2 is one thing that is making me nervous. One of the things I loved was being a stealth combat engineer throwing down CE right behind the enemy lines. Not to mention being the chaos causing hacker. Both roles seem to be in danger of being non applicable or limited based on the info released so far.

You don't actually Need a hacking cert to be a good infiltrator, you just need some creative thinking. Check out one of Figment's rants, I've seen him take a techplant out by himself ;) All you really need is a cloak, some explosives and balls of steel.
That said, organized teams will always have the need for dedicated recon. But I doubt wie really need a laze pointer to light up targets for the whole empire. That's what voip and map grids are for. It's conveniant, sure, but in my opinion it would take some of the skill out of the teamplay - namely the skill to communicate with your fellow players.
