Hackney saying beta within a month might be the safest company-line they can offer. And it directly contradicts them putting up the screen about Higby's danpatsu-shiki (hair-cutting ceremony) this Thursday. But hey, all we can do is wait and see what happens.

Really enjoyed this. I'll agree that the spotting bit was painful but besides that well executed all around. The picture with the VS rexo beating up an NC velociraptor was delightful.

I'm glad they included the segment on the costumes but I would have liked additional details on how they made them rather than how they were facilitated by the team but I imagine that they have less control over that. Would have liked the actors to have gotten name credits or some such at a point as well. Still, glad this was talked about.

It does seem that at least the filming was done sometime last week (no mention of the Oshur event), so that should cut some time off of that. Also there was no mention of the haircut until the credits which were probably added today. I'm still planning on the next 2 weeks (crosses fingers and toes):D

A lot of people on these forums like to sensationalize everything and make statements like "OMG BETA CONFIRMED FOR THURSDAY" when it hasn't actually been confirmed at all and they are just putting their own interpretation on vague tweets or messages.

Personally, I'll start getting excited when I'm downloading the beta client.

Beta Start
My takeaway was there will be outside people allowed in on Thursday. Let's break down the language: an external test starting on Thursday. External being notable in the regard that it will include folks from outside. Test is also notable because it isn't technically beta. Who will those outside people be? I am guessing very carefully selected people that will be invited based on their previous experience or insight to the original game. Perhaps ESports teams who can find exploits, perhaps high profile PS1 players who created meta game strategies, found exploits, or created popular play styles in PS1.

Higby's Haircut
The guy couldn't wait forever and external players entering the server was probably his primary requirement for the haircut. If you don't get in until August don't call Higby a liar.

Command Center
I thought this was fantastic. Almost mocking us fans rabid persistence for a beta while providing us CLEAR and PRECISE language that can be taken away and come up with a time frame. They had great chemistry and I'd really like to see this as a weekly thing, but they probably just won't have the time. I can see it as a monthly thing, perhaps handled by some CSRs in the future.

SOE definitely is handling marketing better than they did for PS1.

Only thing CONFIRMED is tech test starting Thursday. Everyone was assuming beta was starting because of the hair cut. Higby said he wouldn't cut his hair untill people were playing the beta.

Anyway, I really do like those costumes though, really good grade for something so unique. Really appreciate the guys' work on those, they came out amazing.

The infiltrator is a cool class, but very tricky to use as far as I can tell. I highly doubt people will stand still and not say anything when they fall to the ground from a sniper. You get maybe 1 shot, hit or miss before people start running around looking for ya.

ya somehow i don't think one shot kills will be very common on sniping classes. i'm curious how the cloak recharge length will be. if it's like mass effect where you can stay cloaked, unlock fire, re-cloak to find you next target etc..... it'll be a bit more balanced if there is a cooldown like 10 sec or so imo. but it's gonna be damn tough probably to take down HA once they find ya. hopefully there is a good balance in weapon dmg and the cloak though. infiltrator has like no armor so if a grunt finds ya pretty much are toast.

From the gameplay footage we have for cloaks, your cloak has a recharging meter much like the Spy in TF2.

Now whether there's a version of cloak that functions differently....... :shrug:
