View Full Version : What's your favorite class? Why?

Hey everyone. I am wondering about what class people want to play as in Planetside 2 and why. My favorite class will be the Combat Medic. Because I usually enjoy the role of helping my fellow soldiers, I will keep TR soldiers alive at any cost!

Infiltrator for sure. I always play recon/rogue/stealthy types when I can in multiplayer games. I don't even care if they have sniper rifles or not.

I love playing as an Angry Vet.
If I ever die, I can blame it on these newfangled mechanics.

I often play medic, but mainly because its needed, most people don't want to play one and I like being in control.
However if there was already a kickass medic on the team, I would play MAX or HA and bust heads.
I typically play as a medic. I can't really say what I'll play as here until I have a chance to play out the different roles. Medic will be my starting point for now though.

Light assault..I think it will be challenging with an underpowered inaccurate carbine and paper thin armor.

Engineer. When my ass is not in a Vanguard, it is to repair it, repair someone else, or to lend a supporting hand. When I'm doing no vehicle ops, I'll probably still be an Engineer.

Medic or engineer most likely. I get a warm fuzzy feeling when my support turns a battle in our favor.

light assault-they look like they take alot of skill but i want to ROFLcopter over the heads of vanu maxes while emptying a clip-full of headshots

I like light assault because you don't have to worry about ammo and the jetpack is going to be nice to have.

LA doesn't have ammo packs anymore. That's now one of the Engineer's jobs.
I primarily played a combination of HA/Engineer back in my day, with a buggy cert. We'll have to see what feels most comfortable, but I'll probably end up primarily playing Engineer. LA does look really cool and unique, though.

I'm usually the support role in any game I play, so I'll be Engineer primarily and a Infiltrator every now n then. I love setting my friends up for kill streaks. Vehicle wise, I'll be a Galaxy pilot and a Lightning jockey.

I haven't played yet, so I dont know :D
Maybe HA, maybe medic, maybe engineer. Light assault doesn't appeal to me it seems.

Can't really say favorite without actually playing as any of them yet, but I'd say that Light Assault will probably be my favorite. For one thing, it makes a lot of sense for bailing out of aicraft, which I intend to spend a lot of time fighting, and for another thing, I'd rather use maneuverability and attack from odd locations than have a lot of armor.
So I'll probably be playing LA for the same reasons I'll be flying a Scythe. I'd rather swoop in, do some damage, then get the fuck out of dodge, rather than sit around and brawl it out as a tank or MAX or HA.
That, and I'm just not mentally geared much towards support roles, although the engi does look like it could be quite a bit of fun.

Either medic, or vehicle gunner/driver as engi.
I love using the turrets on gunships and tanks in any game, and naturally I just enjoy helping people.

Light Assault because I prefer being quick and agile as opposed to slow and tough

Infiltrator for the most part is my guess. Though it also depends on the melee/knife mechanics. If there as I like them, then some TR/NC sap will hear the jaws theme over VOIP right before I kill them.

Combat Medic. But, won't really know until beta and then release...

Man, I can see you PS1 vets mastering the LA class already... prompting during the first day of beta, hundreds of posts complaining about the "fairies" flying around getting too many headshots and not staying still.
IMHO I think the LA will be the most skillful class. For me, I plan to role as an Engie (pilot) unless my SL request for me to run another class based on mission.

Based on my TF2 preferences (since I have no Planetside experience to guide me)
It'll be a MAX with flamethrowers.
No but seriously, it's hard to say. At the moment, I'm leaning towards Medic, Engy, or LA. I'm sure a lot of my preference will be shaped by my initial impulse "buys" as far as Certs go, and what vehicles I enjoy most once I get my hands on them.

In PS1 I had a toon for all the roles. My primary role wiill be light assult in PS2 bu will do them all.

According to my TF2 stats, Heavy and Engineer, with infiltrator (spy) coming in third
Medic or Engineer because my aim is not that great! This thread would benefit from a poll option

Probably all but the light assault. Maybe I'll find a use in the jetpack if I take to the skies, but I may just prefer to work in an ejection seat when available.
Otherwise, I'll probably go with what I feel like being or find practical at any given moment.
All subject to change come actual PLAY, of course. When's that again? Can't say Thursday, I don't know if I'm getting an invite!

I plan on playing all of the classes quite a bit, but LA will probably be my favorite. I usually prefer playing general infantry classes, and light assault seems to come the closest. The only thing I don't like about the LA so far is that it doesn't look like they will be able to equip an AR, but if I have to customize a carbine to fit my play-style so be it.
It seems a bit odd to me that some people are paranoid about giving a medium range assault weapon to a guy with a jet pack. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me that people are worried about the LA using their mobility to camp and their AR to snipe. Ultimately I like the LA because I think it will be the most challenging class to play, so I won't be too disappointed if they have to fly around with nothing but a knife to put people at ease.
I think I ll play mostly Engy as a Pilot, but really from what we have seen, the most fun infantry class seems to be the LA.
And of course the NC MAX with shotguns and missile launcher.

I plan on playing infiltrator the most, but also plan to put many hours in engineer.
Although, that's all subject to change once I get in an start playing. :D

I will be laying mines, sniping and driving a tank.
This mean switching between Engineer and Infiltrator.
Or do your mines disappear if you switch from Engineer to Infiltrator?
Also we need more classes:
- Cameraman - you will be unarmed, but you will be able to stream
- Driver - only a Driver can drive a tank or aircraft, has a pistol and a repair set
- Infiltrator can be split in Ninja and Sniper
- Diver - you walk around in scuba gear; it won't do anything because no water map

Right now without playing the beta i feel like i will like my classes i mostly play in order of preference. (because i end up being a jack of all trades in every game) will be:
1: Infiltrator = Because i just really like the whole recon, stealth, rogue style gameplay. Hit the point of least resistance. Also the whole fact that if they do it right recon will be extremely important in this game for giving your team a heads up and hacking things so they can gain entry to bases etc.
2: Medic = because you can never have enough medics and i love being helpful to my team.
3: Engineer = Because i know there will be a lot of need to defend certain positions. And plus they now get to carry the ammo boxes which makes them even more helpful. Honestly its a toss up between this and HA for my third choice because theres gonna be a huge amount of vehicles too, but since i plan to mostly focus on infantry and not vehicles i guess engineer is the best choice. Plus they get AV mines too i think so thats good enough.

I think you guys can take a stab at what I'll be playing. Sure, it's sweet to have a nice KDR, but for some of us the same can be said about keeping your teammates up and in the battle. It's nice knowing you're an integral and appreciated part of the war effort.
Also, this guy doesn't heal from behind the line. Get right up there - in the the thick of it! Throwing out heals, firing off lead, and moving the mud. That's how we get things done. Heals? Yeah, we've got those.

HA, I don't like to sit in the back of the fight and watch from afar. I prefer to lead the way.

I'd have to actually, you know, PLAY THE GAME to see what my favorite class is.
I -theorize- that I'll be playing inf for the first few months, until people figure out all the sneaky strategies and such, then switch to light assault or engineer.
Like I said though, I haven't played the game, so I can't say for sure. Maybe I'll play and find out that I like X class more than Y class.

In PS1 I like playing the shock trooper. HA,AV,Expert Hack,Med,Eng,Mozzie. Drop on top level, preferably with 1 to 3 more, and create a second front which will allow allies to push further up in the case of a tower, or clear the top so they can safely push down in the case of a base. Another thing I like doing is small-scale resource denial. On dropship centers I'll camp the air pad. Just a few minutes ago I managed to deny about 10 aircraft from spawning at a contested base by killing their prospective pilots, and that was just by myself.
I just love the feeling of creating large effects as a single individual in agile armor. I don't think I'll be able to get that again in PS2 frankly. Light assault might partially yield the maneuverability, but it won't yield the firepower.

#1 HA - MCG, need I say more.
#2 LA - close second probably will be playing this when not in close quarters and flying my mossy.
#3 Medic - BF3 got me into this one
I'm a gunbunny what can i say, but that may change once i test out the new planetside2 vehicles.

My reaction time is better than my aim, so I prefer to move quickly and surprise the enemy... that's LA. Having the ability to deal with vehicles using C4 is a big bonus.
But I like supporting the team and keeping people in the fight, so I'll be playing plenty of Medic.
My third choice will depend on how the turret/HA-weapon/MAX compare to each other ^_^

Based on what we've seen so far I'd go LA, especially if there's a shotgun available. Combat medic would be a close second.

probably either LA or HA. i like the jetpack of the LA and that HA has rocket launchers.

Gonna try out the weapons for INF, if I like them, then that's what I'll main. If not, HA/MAX will be my next choice.
The most appealing class descriptions for me are those of the LA, engineer, and MAX. I'm sure I'll be able to decide on which of those I'll be giving the bulk of my time to during beta.

Probably Combat Medic. One of my favorite hobbies is to run around in Battlefield with magic paddles and keeping my squad alive far longer than they should have.
Never played Planetside 1, but my medical degree wasn't forged. I promise!
no favorite class ...
I will use them all depending on the needs exactly like battlefield ive been using the class i need to get the job done depending on a lots of thing ...
but since we have to kinda specialized in some stuff trough certification i will go mainly for ligth assault medic and eng but i think mastering all class is a must !
