Seems like we're all under-privileged then. Back to sleeping in my cellar and eating porridge.

This should be the new beta motto! :)

*snip*

chance of getting in is about the same as you getting a phone call from daffy duck

Daffy Duck answering phones - YouTube

Hyped up as much as it was, I don't see how anyone is surprised at the reactions ;), all just a bit of fun.

well i do think they need low pcs in this because higher end machines will work anyway(they tested on high) so its normal if they need alot of lower to medium pc settings to check out

i got both a new i7 pc with epic stuff in it while i have just a dual core to
For what it's worth, just because they're developing it on systems with high specs doesn't mean that they don't need to do further testing with high performance systems. The tech test probably isn't even about game performance -- it's trying to ferret out the crashes, memory leaks, and glitchy install problems that are caused, not by poor specs, but by unforseen interactions in the thousands of permutations of hardware and drivers in the wild.

Just because the game runs fine and performs smooth as silky butter on the combination of hardware they have been developing on, doesn't mean the game won't crash nine times out of ten on hardware just as "fast" or "good" but with a different motherboard chipset, or a different video card manufacturer, or a nice AMD processor, or even a specific chipset combined with a video card model being run by Intel processors.

Wondering what "beat the dog" is a euphemism for...

Not a euphemism, he literally hits his dog. :(

This thread should be deleted.

If we do, someone will repost it thinking its breaking news.

Everytime I see this thread get bumped I think they are once again releasing invites at 6PM.

I cry a little bit every time.

So I've waited for this thread to get kinda stupid and full of rage before I posted and incredibly, it was been 90% mature!

As part of the 10% I resent that.

Seriously though, love your posts Duke. You always offer good perspective.

DO...WANT...
Also: +1 to the idea that anyone who gets into tech or beta test actually helps SOE by testing what they're supposed to test and giving thorough and appropriate feedback...

So does this mean we are in the closed beta phase, or are we just in tech testing? I am not really sure on the difference; if someone could help me out here that would be awesome.

Tech testing is the period inbetween alpha and beta in which they see if their game will melt lower-end GPUs.

It also lets them know if the game is optimized enough for use with rigs that aren't in the office.

If it doesn't melt GPUs and random computers can run it decently, that means it can be sent to the general populace for external "beta" testing.

Edit: This is as I know it to be. I could be horribly wrong. If I am, please correct me.

Thats the just of it. They also said this phase tests how efficiently external users are able to download and install the client, along with testing server load to see if they can in fact support the amount of players they think to get an idea on the limitations.

Hopefully after the tech test we will get system requirements, an idea of how many players on a map, and a stream lined launch pad for that BETA TESTIN!!!!!
