ok, here hamma gets his command rank 1 http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/viewer.php?img_id=580 ... so i take this to mean that u only get one piece of add on (glove or shine guard) per rank increase.

this is only my opinion but i personally think that's ugly as hell. if ur an odd numbered rank ull run around looking like michael jackson and who wants that?!?!

this is a very very minute problem for me, and so far my only one. just wanted to put my two cents in about this aesthetic wrong doing.

i think, u should get for cert points every battle rank.. because command rank add ons take space on my H drive

i dont know about you but if i was a commander i wouldnt want to look special becasue that gives a sniper or any ememy a bigger better target.

i just REALLY hope that the VS final command rank doesnt have a ghetto neck brace like the TR :D . man... if i was going TR and i found out that you get some ghetto add on like that (plus the already ghetto as hell goggles) id join VS or NC. shin guards look cool tho...

could it be?

CR1-shin pad
CR2-shin pad 2
CR3-shoulder pad
CR4-shoulder pad 2
Cr5-pimp neck brace

I as a commander would be smart enough not to dance in front of sniper optic scopes and yell at them! I'd shoot them and return fire and stuff. Most commanders will learn how to adjust themselves because they are wanted targets, we'll figer it out.

i have to say that neck brace is really ugly if i was on tr i would not want to advance to the rank where i would get that. but thats my opinion and no one cares.

If I was a commander I would either be in a MAX, Tank, or Infiltrator, to avoid or be able to take fire.

Well there's something Hamma. Would you be able to reveal whether or not the CR polygon you've got there looks any differant in Reinforced and MAX armor?

mmmm this coming from a person who has an Ossy Ossborne picture next to his name. Would you prefer some black pants with lightning on them? That's bloody f#%$ing stupid.

:D In all seriousness he looks like someone who got hit too many times in the face and never recovered.

Whats the point of a poly graphic when its gonna make you look like a gimp? I mean...it looks like the guy broke his anckel, and a neckbrace? Maybe his driver slammed on the brakes a bit too hard and gave him whiplash?

The point is that it makes you more noticeable.

More noticeable == Bigger target.
More noticeable == More respect.

Walkin around like you got hit by a bus isnt gonna get you much respect...

How about something more like this;

www.madfish.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/madfish_cr5.jpg

I think it's cool you look different as a commander, and you'll get mucho respect at CR5. However, it does come with the problem that you'll be number one target in battles... or will you?

If the commander can still give commands whilst dead or while at the spawning facility two miles away who cares? His squad / platoon will still be creaming people while he's not there; it's not like they stand around scratching their heads in his absence.

I do agree it is a tiny wee bit lame to only have one bit per CR. I still think you'll be proud (as hamma would confirm), even if you do have to moon walk everywhere and end every sentence with "Oww!".

I think it's cool to point out commanders. For one, it would be cool to take out the leader. (The leader does better when he can see what is going on) But wouldn't you get really mad if a sniper took out your commander? Then everyone would start looking for the sniper just to get him back!

well, there is an obvious solution to this problem, put the commander in a vehicle. Now, not the drivers seat, because he still might have to type, but you can always put him in a tank turret, or have him be part of the gun crew in an APC. Sure, the vehicle is gonna get shot at alot even though they don't know he is in there, but it's alot better then having four or five snipers shooting at you before you can blink.

Get some reinforced armour, some MAX and take a screeny then!!!

Can't wait to see a CR 5 Vanu MAX. If it wasn't purple, it would probably be the most badass-looking thing in the game. One minute, it probably still is because other MAXs have glass protecting the face.

Edit: Hey, maybe it will look like Eva Unit 01 like in my sig.

makes me wish i could reach thru the computer and smack u, u should respect the godfather of metal. his family has more moral values, in their middle fingers, than most american households... but that aside, im speaking from the viewpoint of an artist. having one shin guard like that is a compositional no no, unless u like the footbrace idea.

I agree that there should be more symmetry (sp?) with the CR's. In my opinion, it would be cool if the polygonal add on's went something like this...

CR1 - Shin guards (both)
CR2 - Arm guards (both)
CR3 - New chestpiece
CR4 - Neckbrace thingy
CR5 - New helmet design

The only problem i can really think of that this would cause is visual confusion. If i saw someone in Agile armor with all that stuff on him for the first few times, I wouldn't know what kind of armor he would be wearing..."Is that agile? Don't think so...maybe reinforced? Or some kind of gimp MAX? Hmm..." And at the same time, he would be a very obvious target. But i think that new look would make some people want to achieve a higher command rank. Actually, that could be a downside as well, somebody with hardly decent command ability or someone who just doesn't care about his men could be playing for several months, taking a base here and there, and could achieve a high command rank, but then be a horrible commander because he either is very bad at it, or just doesn't care, and then you would have a waste of commanders...Eh, we'll see.

If the pads = rank, I do hope they change that in beta.

I think the idea of having something you can see to indicate rank - both for recognition and for the enemy to pick their targets - is fine.

But, I'd hope it was something a bit more subtle, and a little more - I dunno - military. Shoulder boards with stripes, pips on the collar, whatever.

Level 5 could be bullseye warpaint and "ATTENTION SNIPERS: I AM IMPORTANT" painted on the chest and back.

yeah it is telling them im important but its also a way for the good players to thumb their nose at people pretty much saying try me buddy....i think itll work more for your fovor then aginst you

I hope you guys realize that the point of gaining shin pads etc. is so that you ARE a bigger target. I believe that was the whole point. (And so friendly peeps will recognize you too)

NeoTassadar
2003-03-19, 08:25 PM
Not much of a bigger target by the looks of it, but yeah, easily seperated from the grunts. And for the grunts to know exactly who to protect if they're not in that squad (priority). Hmmm...what about a sign strapped to his back that reads: "I AM WORTH 1,000,000,000,000 BP"?

I agree completely with the symetry thing.

It would be cool if the polygon additions could be tied into the cr powers. Like, the wrist guards have buttons on them and are used to set way points or the helmet has advanced elctronics/radar for the map snapshot ability . . .

It would also be cool if vehicles would change slightly for commanders. Just add an antenna or two.

All I can get in my head, now, is that image of the Great Gazoo from the Flintsones, with his silly antenna helmet. Or perhaps a little rotating radar dish top

Now, I like that idea.
