hey guys,
So my question is about the medic, engineer, light assault backpacks. Will they be part of the hit box?
and what are your thoughts?

Probably. In the overall design, they aren't THAT obtrusive. It's not like a camping pack or anything... :D

but will they have a hitbox of their own, because in the pic above you can see the backpack covering around 75% of the back of the head making it hard for head shots from behind?
I don't think the hitbox will know about a back pack if you hit him in the back of the head/backpack it will still register as a head shot i bet :)

Good question. Maybe something to help medics and engineers not get shot in the back of the head...

That would be pretty amazing if it had it's own hitbox and could take damage.

Disable medic healing and engineer repairs by destorying thier equipment?
Hmmmm... :)

Backpack should be its own hitbox, and when dealt enough damage, it would delete a random item in your inventory (or destroy X amount of ammo).
Sound familiar, Late-PS1 players?

Items getting destroyed from getting your backpack shot sounds interesting, but I hope they don't do it. We play games for the fun-factor, and going to use something you expect to be there and finding out that it isn't is not fun. I doubt there would be enough feedback to the person who destroyed said items. If so, the sense of accomplishment or fun-factor would not outweigh the anti-fun aspect of it (IMHO).

I think the hitbox of the backpack, if there is a hitbox around the backpack at all, would be akin to body shots.
Huh... thinking about it that way, it makes headshots only viable from the front, where both parties know there is an engagement, instead of someone popping another in the head without the victim ever knowing someone was lining up a shot behind them. Not that TTK's are so long a stream of rounds into their back won't kill them before they can react meaningfully anyway.

To be honest, I imagine the backpack will either be grouped in with whatever hitbox it's in contact with or will not be part of the hitbox. I think it would make sense to just have it not be factored in since the bullets we'll be using would likely have no trouble punching through it. However, would be interesting if you could take out jump-jets or the like but I can see how that would get very annoying.
My Backpack should be Armor, ill Put some Steel in it XD, just kidding.
Good Question i think if you shou one from behind he will Take Damage like usual.
Less than Torso ? I dont know.

It shouldn't be part of the hitbox at all, IMO.

it will be part of the hitbox, head and torso, or just like its not there. i dont known this for sure but i wouldnt think its any other way.. The more hit boxes the more calculations & performance headaches.

if I shoot you in your gun is the weapon destroyed? nope you take damage just as it will be getting shot in the backpack.
Would I like to see equipment loss from being shot in the back? Nope I'd rather kill or be killed.
Should it have it's own hitbox to defend against headshots from behind, hmm now that's a good one. I'd be leaning towards yes on that one, just as long as it takes normal body shot damage.

It'll likely be part of the torso. I can't imagine it having its own hitbox, or not having a hitbox at all; can you imagine how infuriating it'd be if you're shooting at someone running across your line of sight, you're hitting him in the backpack, but it's not dealing damage?

As great as hit-boxs are I think too many hit-boxs will just result in crazy lag from servery trying to figure out which part of the body those 300 soldiers got shot in.

Yeah... no. Honestly, it would be cool the first hour when you're actively trying it out, after that you're either not going to notice it, or get angry when someone you shot in the back of the head didn't die after 3 shots and got away... which makes it a lot of unnecessary work imo.

It's doubtful that it will be part of the hitbox. It's just a backpack.

If we combine this idea with another idea that I saw around these forums (a backpack for PS1 vets) I'm heavily leaning towards "no, it should not block headshots from behind". You vets have numerous advantages already!
If backpacks are just class based, I wouldn't really mind having it block off headshots with its own hitbox. This ofc also depends on how many shots it would take for a sniper to kill a man through his backpack.

I love the idea of the backpack having a separate hitbox or offering some protection to the player's back, but I think the practicality of that is low. I would bet that the reality is that it will have no effect on the hotbox at all.

modern day 7.62 caliber ammo, used by default in allmost any sniper rifle (or higher caliber) is capable of penetrating allmost an inch of reinforced steel, iam sure it'll go through a packpack into the head, not to mention futuristic alloys used for bullets, making them more durable and capable of more penetration. iam sure the dev team is aware of that :D
and even if not, take a higher caliber

The angle that the picture was taken looks to me slightly downward, making the backpack appear to be taking up more headspace. I think that the medic, engy etc. will have a hitbox just like the rest of the classes.

It won't be part of the hitbox. The player mesh is not the same things as the LOS collision volume.

Man, everyone has missed the obvious here. Light Assault...hit the jetpack enough and it launches the player crazily into the air before going BOOM. Eh, not likely to happen, but cool to think about.
