You'd think China was no different from America just looking at those shots.

But... you can also see why they're in league with those terrorists, the New Conglomerate!

Hah, this! We American's call it football. The rest of the world calls what we call soccer, football.

We should also hurry up and set up the education system to ween our youth off the imperial system and into metrics, like the rest of the world.

While America is the land of the free and has some of the most innovative minds in the world, it's also ironically stuck in teaching old, dated standards.

I agree with the metric system, but damn, people get too sensitive about there being different names for things.
It can be football AND soccer.
It can be a lift AND an elevator.
They can be french fries AND chips.
Yo dawg, I heard you like f*gs. Using a combination of American and British English, now you can be a f*g when you smoke a f*g while you do a f*g.

The one thing that I can't f*cking stand is the way British English often uses collective nouns as a plural, rather than as a singular (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_American_and_British_English#Formal_ and_notional_agreement)
If the team IS Spain, and Spain won the game, then Spain IS the winner... not are the winners

I'm American, but come on. The entire rest of the world calls it football, which makes sense.

Football: You kick a ball with your foot.

(American) Football: You carry and throw a lemon.

I like the term hand-egg, though the pigskin isn't really egg-shaped. Still makes more sense :P

ANYWAYS, don't correct people for using terminology that's correct in every country but ours. xD

This is interesting! I never knew this was yet another difference between British English and American English. I actually learnt a genuine thing that has nothing to do with videogames on a forum today!

Oh and while we're on it, why do you Americans need to to use a Z instead of an S in tons of words? Like analysing/analyzing, steriliser/sterilizer etc...

US would be perfect if you:
stopped this soccer thing (it really is football)
started calling your 'football' rugby
forget that bas ball stuff, just allow the ball from the pitcher to bounce (ie pitch) and call it cricket
start drinking warm beer

oh and *keep* feet, inches, ounces and pounds - that's civilised.

Fahrenheit is good too.

stopped this soccer thing (it really is football) - 100% agree
started calling your 'football' rugby - I disagree. Theres too much padding and safety gear to call it Rugby!
forget that baseball stuff, just allow the ball from the pitcher to bounce (ie pitch) and call it cricket - or just call it Rounders, make the bat smaller and only allow batters to hold the bat with one hand when they swing
start drinking warm beer - Bombardier, London Pride or Spitfire, beautiful!

American Football's name comes from Rugby Football, which can be followed all the way back to the 1600's. Eventually rules such as 4 downs and a line of scrimmage were added, and there you have it, Football. Rugby also doesn't use a ball, but you can kick the ball through the goal with your foot, or run across the line, with your feet.

"Soccer" is actually a preservation of the original name of Futball, which was taken from the word asSOCitation. It became "soccer" amongst the lower classes, and "football" amongst the upper classes. So you can thank America for preserving history!

As for the OP, Drogba as a marketing push.. oh China..

Being an American, I'm not much of a soccer fan, although I have been getting into it more lately. I really love the whole no commercial breaks thing. So while I'm a casual fan of Manchester United, I think I might just have to switch allegiences since Drogba is repping PS2 now.

This is pretty damn cool.

So glad that Drogba has left the EPL. Good player but I have a real dislike for him.

I looked at him holding the shirt and never even realised it was the Planetside 2 logo until I looked at for a second time (I noticed the little 2 at the right hand side) and was like "OW! that's what everyone is going on about".

Saying that I can't wait for the first Spurs vs Chelsea meeting. :D

I think SOE is going to (now don't laugh) Chinajoy 2012 soon. It's like a Chinese GDC.

You can absolutely expect PS2 at ChinaJoy although it's not quite like GDC. It's more of a GamesComm type event. It's on par with the size of Comic Con.

Wow! You're the first non-American I've seen who doesn't disapprove of the imperial system (and Fahrenheit).

I actually disagree with you. I think we should change to the metric system. It's a lot more logical (everything's on a base 10 system), in addition to being used in loads of equations.

Fahrenheit makes sense though. You could argue that Celsius is more logical in the sense of water (0 freeze, 100 boil), but Fahrenheit is much more useful in just regular conversation and non-cooking context.

Well I imagine that Didier Drogba would by default get beta access, as he is a promoter for the game.

My question is: Can I have his invite? as I'm pretty sure he won't use it.

edit: Actually he'd probably give it to his nephew or something. So don't worry... back to checking my emails....

Not at all. China is dominated by greedy, selfish politicians who want to maintain absolute power. The U.S. is dominated by greedy, selfish politicians who give that power to corporations in order to raise funds for re-election.

So really it's China->TR, U.S.->NC...
Japan's and Korea's philosophies are much more along the lines of "f*ck you I'm building a robot", hence->VS
