Would be fantastic if there was a way to tune your mozzie/prowler radio into an in game station playing music like APB did.

Yeah that would be interesting :), especially if some of those radio stations could be run by different factions, each one doing its best at making one.
Most big MMO's get a radio station, anyone planning one for PS2?

I can see that hurting Terran Republic Membership. All soldiers are required to tune into Regimented Radio at all times. *Hey Listeners, we got another special request from our beloved leader. That's right, it's time once again for that hit single "You can Break my Heart Baby, but Deserters will be Shot".

Why not partner with Pandora or Tune-in and stream music straight through the in-vehicle radio? Would also be awesome if people in your vehicle could hear the music too.
Could also let people near the vehicle hear it too. Imagine pulling up to your local sunderer for a pit stop and hearing something playing over the radio. Now that would be awesome.

Yeah, propaganda would be hilarious. Forget Tokyo Rose, we've got Tokyo Terran. (No offense to the Japanese).

Yeah, I think a Tokyo Rose would add alot of color to the game.

Starship troopers music for TR in PS1 was the way to go for those big fights.

That's what I was thinking on the streams. Tr will of course have the best music.

I can detect massive Lore-related arguments and drama being created by this.
Also, do you REALLY want to hear what some people play? I've heard way too much garbage just coming through people's headsets.

With intermittent propaganda messages, like the commercials Fallout 3 had between songs.

Indeed.
I think Fallout's use of the radio was the best, although part of that was because it adapted to what you did as well. If you can get the game to talk about "outbreaks of fighting in [insert hex here]" or the "tragic loss of TR's base to terrorist scum" etc. in a way that actually represents player action... that would be awesome.
I also think it shouldn't be limited to vehicles. I mean, you've got a comm system in your helmet already...
EDIT: Also, the Radio could be an interesting way to announce special events by having the organizers cut into the regularly scheduled broadcasts with in-character announcements or something similar.

No, we'll just play the entire extended 2-CD soundtrack from Starship Troopers over and over and over again. :P Oh, and 'Klendathu Drop' during big Gal drops.

If there is to be in-game radio then I demand a talk radio station hosted by Lazlow.
Who is totally TR by the way.

This thread reminds me of the time to tried EQ1 for a week. After already playing WoW, I wanted to go back and see why the EQ structure became the norm for MMOs. The graphics were horribly blocky, but the one thing I did like and made me scratch my head as to why no other MMO has done it since, was the fact that it had an in game MP3 player. Making it so I don't have to alt-tab every time I want to change some music would be great for PS2.
In a recent Higby interview (I forget which one), he joked around having a music player in vehicles so when the driver turns on music, everyone inside the vehicle hears it. I was screaming at the screen, "PLEASE DO THAT!!!". I'm normally the driver/pilot for my outfit's troop transports and plan on doing it in PS2. If I could turn on some Two Steps From Hell for my friends to listen to so they can get psyched up before going into battle, that would be awesome.

Add the entire soundtrack of games such as Drakengard 2, and the total war games and I wouldn't give a care who's faction radio it is.

I don't want to hear music - I want to hear the enemies footsteps aproaching. I want to hear my enemies weapon reloading, I want to hear the doors opening and closing so I know where my enemies are. This is a war game not a musical. I want to hear war. If for some stupid reason SOE wants to give you music lovers a radio station, I want a button to turn it off and tune it out. But if you NC and VS want to listen to music while I sneak up on you to slit your throat then by all means rock on.

Reminds me of playing Fallout. I like the idea of having player made stations. Maybe it's something they'll allow a mod for...

IDEA: SoE has their own neutral radio station run by a charismatic radio caster that would broadcast thematic news and updates to the game. Explain the changes in game by tying it to in game events. Brodcasts could be looped and start with that line.
For instance, Introducing new continents could be a news report reporting that a new continent has been found. Need to make some balance changes by buffing one faction weapon and nerfing another? Make a report on the one empire stealing tech or experimental designs from another.

Whenever I got into a marauder in ps1 I always expected to hear the beverley hillbillies or dukes of hazzard theme tunes every time, but never happened :(
