what are your thoughts on keeping a first person POV wile inside a transport vehicle?

So for instance in the sunderer you can see your whole squad inside sitting on benches with their guns between their legs and same goes for the galaxy.

Nope, not needed in my book. Rather see the surroundings. However, it would be a nice cool touch to add immersion.

Probably the coolest idea ever but I don't think we will see it implemented. SERIOUSLY though I want this so bad!

Oh! Being inside a transport vehicle!
At first I thought this thread was about indoor transport vehicles. Was going to take dibs on the Vanu Segway.

If BF3 did anything right, it did this right.

Yeah, I loved this in BF Vietnam... Everyone looking toward eachother in a chinook.

It would be cool, but id rather be in third person.

maybe something to add later as a toggle.

I'd rather have a third-person view because it gives you more spotters for enemies.

I don't know, even if you could still look outside the vehicle to a slight degree, it seems like it'd take alot of work without any real benefit. Plus, having guys pop in and out instantly from the vehicle would look kind of weird.

My thoughts also. The BF games have been doing this for a long time now.

I created a thread about this a couple of months ago but it didn't get that much traction.

Last year I wrote a short story about being stuck inside the back of a galaxy flying to a drop zone. I love this idea I really do but its something that isnt necessary. I hope to see it in an expansion though.

I'd absolutely love to have it, but it's not that important to me overall.

Good idea, that way I can drive them around in circles all day and they will never know.

Yeah, I like 1st person views inside of vehicles. It adds a lot to the squad dynamics.

Check out the start if this vid from ARMA to see how it goes:
[ARMA] Delat Force Amazing Grace - YouTube

I feel like a bit of character would be lost if we all just had a third person perspective.

Having that sort of interaction would be a big plus in Planetside 2.

Maybe in a post-launch "fluff" patch? When they have more time to work on it?

Edit: I agree exactly with Akadios below me on every point.

I would love this. I think that it would totally add a good bit of excitement to hear the battle and bullet impacts just like real life and then the pilot or driver opens up and bam you are in the fight.

That would take a sincere amount of animation.

Not necessarily, in PS1 when you get in a Gal for example you get in a seat with a door. So instead of seeing your squad you could see the door with a little window. It could actually eloquently be done in the programming by simply locking your characters movement and then meshing over the image of the door so that you simply see out the little window and nothing else.

I'd rather have a third-person view because it gives you more spotters for enemies.

The benefit would be a sense of excitement and unknown. It would also however be exactly so that a passenger inside an APC can't be looking 360 or 180 for enemies while still being shielded from fire.

It would be cool, but id rather be in third person.

maybe something to add later as a toggle.

A toggle wouldn't really work because power gaming would just take over and people would ridicule people for using it and not helping spot enemies.

imagine being able to walk around inside a galaxy before it reaches its drop destination :p that would be awesome

You and a few squad mates are cramped in a Sunderer. The driver yells over vehicle com: "It's going to be a hot one!" as you hear the bullets begin pelting the hull. "This thing is a @^#&ing bullet magnet!" one of your squad mates yell. You know it's true, but everyone will be fine as long as it stays just bullets. There is an explosion outside and you swear that for a moment the Sunderer is rocked so hard that two tires came off the dirt road. You think: this could be it. The Sunderer would crash on its side, and all it would take is one well placed tank shell. The round would go straight through the undercarriage and explode in the cabin with molten metal, turning the once protective armor plating into flesh shredding shrapnel. At least it would be a quick death. But the moment passes, and the Sunderer's two wheels are only airborne briefly before they make solid contact with the ground. And the vehicle keeps charging on, the sound of the diesel engine only becoming louder. You glance around at everyone. There is no fear, only determination. The driver says that your squad is twenty seconds from the target, and you'll have to clear the vehicle quickly. You ready yourself and take a deep breath. The vehicle slams the brakes as the hatch opens. You are momentarily blinded by the sunlight but quickly get the lay of the battlefield as you and your squad charges out, guns blazing...

Yeah, I think it's a pretty good idea.

I would love to see this but for me too, it's not a priority. I loved the immersion from operation flashpoint I think was the first place I say it, and to switch inside - outside cam you just pressed keypad_enter

As much as i want it. I don't think they're prioritizing this before launch, and i don't think they should either. Might come post-launch though...

If I wanted reality I wouldn't be playing a sci-fi shooter where guys have giant mech suits and are instantly regrown with all their memories every time they die.

Fact is I want all the guys looking out for enemies as I can have, I don't care if it's not realistic that they could have a 360 viewpoint if they were really there.

I know everyone here says they want something like out of the Beach of Normandy where guys couldn't see anything, and ran out of their boats into oncoming machine gun fire, but I don't know if they REALLY want that. Maybe they do.

the surrondings are much more interesting than sitting personel. so give me that instead.

I like the idea of first person mode within transport vehicles but I don't expect it to be added to the game. Sitting in the dark belly of a Galaxy with your squadmates discussing strategy before you drop sounds awesome for immersion but in reality it would probably get old pretty fast. I imagine staring at some motionless soldier strapped to a seat for 10 minutes until we either explode in a ball of fire or are told to jump.

I think it worked for the Arma series because it was aimed at ultra realism. It had head-swivel and the mouths moved in cadence with the localized voip system which made it more interesting.

Great idea that i would love to see in the game eventually. This needs adding on galaxies and sunderers!

Then we need the back doors of these vehicles opening so troops can pile out.

couldbe coll of an inside view if you switch seats in a gal. For example left side of the gal is taking too much damage passengers could go scuttle to the right side.

Or say someone gets killed inside the passenger side of the gal, a medic passenger could crawl over to give an inflight rez.

you can have it if the dev's do it, I'll just continue to use 3rd person for situational awareness

I would approve of this only if they could animate the cabin being ripped open by aaa fire and watching your squadies get sucked out and fall to their gruesome deaths.

I'd like the Galaxy to come with an in flight movie. Maybe a propaganda video, or even mission orders recorded and read by a computer system:)
