View Full Version : Planetside 2 Footage uncovered.

After the last thread got deleted i wont post the actual video.
Look at the other clan match videos the voices on comms are exactly the same as the planetside 2 footage.
*Edit* The Audio on the video sounds that some people are playing BF3 in the background.
So it looks like SOE have invited certain members of this multi gaming clan to the tech test. Which i'm absolutely cool with. But looking at the forum and players names i cant see one planetisde 1 vet i recognized.
Not a flame at SOE but its interesting. Its a shame people cant stick to a NDA.

Hard to reply without looking Trollish - But how would you go about choosing a Vet to concentrate on how their rig handles the game compared to either pointing out everything that isn't Planetside 1 or how the game plays in general.
It would seem easier or even more sensible not to have a vet in a tech test IMO

They also probably go out of their way to use alternate names for certain circumstances. Improbable, but possible.
Anyway the Tech Test is meant for testing hardware, they could have gone out of their way to grab Vets, but they could also have gone out of their way to make sure that people run as a unit to truely test some system aspects they want to be sure are implemented and we in all honestly don't know which is which.
Soon(tm) should be replaced with "Beta will happen when it happens" party:

Silly though. They even had a TS3 overlay so you could see all the players in channel who where playing.
Is it coincidence that these guy's where chosen for the tech test via system specs lottery which the community has been sold on the last few weeks. Highly unlikely.
Without wanting to discuss the issue of selection too much; most of those involved in the first day of the tech test WEREN'T Planetside veterans. Whether this was a deliberate choice by SOE or merely luck of the draw, I couldn't say.

NDA is there because the company is still making the game and it could be in a lot of flux. Logical sane people understand this, however even the best of us get emotional about things that we find dear or important and the NDA is there to keep the company from getting flooded with constant complaints about this or that small piece that each person complaining feels like a huge issue. NDA is better that keeping telling people "Step off my dick and let me work, shit's not done yet. Fuck."

It may be against the NDA and I agree with that but how do you know that they won't report bugs and faults they find by playing the game normally? Surely the kind of bugs that are important to find are those that arise from playing like a normal player would.
The foundations of this look incredible! The liberator bombing cannon type thing makes the most satisfying explosion and sound, same with the tank shells, aesthetically very battlefield esq, in a good way! I also find it funny that the vehicle piloting looks 'clunky' in the same way it does when a bunch of new people start playing battlefield. ie it seems to have a lot of depth to it.. the whole moment where the liberator is trying to land and just explodes reminds me of the 'battlefield moments' that my buddies and I often laugh about due to bad piloting, where things seem normal then something just explodes.
The whole look and feel of the game to me looks brilliant! After playing a lot of betas it looks to be at the point where as I mentioned before, the foundations are there, then with polishing it'll be ace.
For example, for some reason the hacking looked weird.. kind of like there should have been an animation there.

Yeah. I refuse to watch the leak because if I did I would have to bash my head against the wall or something or I'd probably lose my mind trying to contain the abstract mountain of desire to play the game again.
I mean I only live a 2 hour drive away from the offices and now that I know where it is, if my mind broke I'm not sure I could hold myself back from storming the building and rabidly gnawing on some server wires or something.

All people want is information and are happy to see footage of the game.
If the person who took the footage has broke the rules then they should have their access removed. I doubt that will happen because it will be difficult to track them down.
This could mean now that the nda will be worthless and everyone currently in the beta will start posting pics/vids etc because there will be no fear of punishment.

A few things....
#1 Swapping seats on the fly - No, just, no. This is baddd. You should only be able to swap seats while landed (air vehicles) or not in motion (land vehicles). Swapping mid-flight allows 2 people to effectively run a Liberator at a high enough efficiency that having 3 people could be seen as a waste. If 4 people can operate 2 Libs quite well, why would would we want to use 6 people?
#2 Turret rotation speed - Seems a bit odd for a gunship bomber turret to rotate that fast.
#3 Model clipping - less of a problem, I'm sure it will be fixed but just throwing it out there. All sorts of model clipping going on with the gunner's view.
#4 Drop pods - They look kinda silly when they hit the ground and bounce back up before landing a second time. They need to implement "invisible walls" where drop pods can't fall on top of so they don't bounce off the sides of rocks and stuff.
One of the things I loved was how powerful the Liberator's tailgun seems to be. It even sounds badass. No more solo Mossies taking down a fully manned Lib...Also, tanks leave treadmarks! So exciting!

There wasn't much to see (not enough players), it showed the game looking pretty (we knew that), that the explosions are a bit too much Michael Bay (we knew that) and that hotswapping vehicle spots is up for discussion (we also knew that).
About the hotswapping: with a proper player count in the game we might see it in a very different way. It could even become a real must to hotswap then. Remember this is a much faster game than PS1. They could instill a slight delay into it.

I don't care so much for being an NDA police per se, what what annoys me is smartasses going around fairly direct rules set on the forums by twisting some semantics and technicalities. If Hamma has wished that these forums are not to be used for sharing footage that is under NDA, why can it not be respected instead of doing it so that it may not break a rule, but still does the exact same thing than the original thread that was closed for a very good reason?
The point that bothers me the most is trying to go around it. Being a forum moderator on other forums, it's somewhat hilarious when people try to go around the rules by doing similar technical roundabouts and then QQing when the thread gets closed or they get punished. It would work if this shit was automated, but it doesnt quite work against manual moderation :D
That said, I do despise people who can't respect an agreement they have agreed to follow. Now this has nothing to do with this thread per se, but the poster of the video. I think breaching an NDA or any agreement is, while first and foremost a legal thing, but also a spit to the face of SOE in this case. He gets an amazing opportunity like this and decides to breach the NDA first chance he gets, meh. As for this thread, Hamma has asked PSU not be the place to share these videos (even if the thread wouldnt directly do it, it is extremely easy thanks to this thread), but still people have to try their luck with threads like these :/
But I guess more on topic of the video content we're not supposed to talk about or share:
I would somehow like to see the turret speed limited too, in addition to the instant enter/exit and hotswapping seats being worked on.

I have seen evidence of certifications that reduce seat swapping times, so it probably haven't been impemented yet, but we will have delays on everything, including entering/exiting the vehicle at launch.
#2 Turret rotation speed - Seems a bit odd for a gunship bomber turret to rotate that fast.
Yes, this is one of those things a big chunk of the community has to be vocal about for them to implement. So if people want more realistic turret turning speeds, we'll most likely get that.
Unless the devs already are planning to do it of course :)
#3 Model clipping - less of a problem, I'm sure it will be fixed but just throwing it out there. All sorts of model clipping going on with the gunner's view.

Totalbiscuit mentioned this in one of his videoes earlier. The physics engine is not finished, and they are still working on getting everything to not bounce around ridiculously.

For me the hotswapping seats wasnt that big of a deal, it could use a tiny delay. The lib is freaking AWESOME!!! Tank busting looked like it was a piece of cake. Against air superiority fighters the liberator really seemed to shine. The rear aa gun was seemed very satisfying to fire, powerful and nice controlled bursts. Im thinking when I run into a libby Im going to want hellfire missiles equipped and come in from a higher elevation.

Mostly BF3 in the vehicle mechanics, mainly the hot swapping and instant entry/exit.
Also the infantry combat/gunplay also reminds me of BF3 to a degree, but that's only a good thing for me. I really liked that in BF3, it's problems were elsewhere.
The footage lacks the population to truely feel like Planetside, so what is left is overly staring at the mechanics :D BF3 then again doesnt have anything "unique" to it unlike PS2, so it's all about it's mechanics :D
Still WTB "smart reloading", as in not cocking the weapon if there's a round in the chamber.

Thanks for the support man.
I've reported the original video to SOE.
Be patient guys - this footage is shit. Wait to see the actual game and the good stuff.
Attempts to bypass deletion of threads that violate the NDA will result in infractions and bans.
