I've read in other posts that a pilot/medic is the ultimate support class, but what about us who wanna fly stuff AND shoot stuff? I want to know what you guys think, is a pilot/infantry class viable in PS2?

All class excluding maxs can pilot vehicles, and i would personally take a light assault in case i get shot down so i can bail.

any class can be pilot. no need for an engy or medic pilot.

I'd go engineer. So you can pop out to heal your ride and still have fairly decent offensive capabilities.

What about the galaxy pilot's ability to set the galaxy as a spawn point and then run around and heal? i wonder if you'd get more XP for galaxy spawnpoint/healing or spawnpoint/gunning?

They've said it would be possible to do purely support roles and gain XP just as quickly as through combat. So, it should't make much difference. (as long as you are equally proficient at both support and combat of course:))

From the little bit I got to play at the community event, being an Engineer is good an all for land vehicles, but I honestly find myself doubting that an Air vehicle will be able to get to a safe enough zone after combat to be able to hop out and repair as often as most people seem to expect.

Also since vehicles will have limited ammo for their weapons and Higby was talking about limiting the number of Flares an aircraft can carry instead of just putting them on a cooldown I guess you're much better off just flying the aircraft to a resupply post to get the ammo back as the same time as you repair the ride.

Even if you consider going to a deployed Sunderer you're still just flying back to the nearest resupply point for the vehicle.

Nah, for aircraft I thought I would want to go LA or Infil just as often as Engi, then Engineer for land vehicles.

I have sugested the medic have some type of cert in which you could "medivac" some one either by generating a heal field around the vehicle or mabey res a person by placing a down individual from the field into an unoccupied passenger/gunner slot.

But for now a medic is purly an infantry support role.

Man, from everything I've seen, and I've been trying to watch every video possible, the Medic and Engineers are more of a traditional "Assault" class that just happen to have a 2nd pistol for healing or repairing and can cert to expand that. So really no loss of power there in the combat role. The named assault classes, are the Heavy Assault, which goes the LMG or larger route, and Light Assault, in the carbine/smg spec ops kinda route, take to opposite specializations that the other two fit nicely in-between. Just don't get hung up on the verbiage.

Other games give these roles tiny often sub-par smgs or shotguns, but that's not what's been shown here for PS2.

So wait, wait. You can drive/pilot in rexo?

Yes you can. MAX'es however can not which is good, but a HA or rexo not being able to pilot aircraft or tanks would seem "weird" in the game by the current looks of it. Also many players would probably be discouraged to play HA, even for that sweet rocket launcher, when they realise they won't be able to pilot a bomber.

I'll file that under 'Wait Until Beta', I suppose.

It isn't rexo, Rexo was medic/engineer/anti infantry/anti tank all in one uber class. This is just rexo without its inventory and thus aren't any stronger than any of the other non MAX classes.

um.. what is this thread about?!

If you are asking the benefits of flying as a medic, i can't think of any. It's probably the least useful class to pick if you are a dedicated pilot.

LA seems to be the best bet so far for pilots. Though, I have some other ideas for support roles that an Engie would be best to use when flying.

Pilot/engie for me

Flying and having the self repair is always a good thing to have but also being able to land, walk into a fort and throw down a turret for you and your friends is always helpful. Assaults are nice and with light assault you can cheat death by floating harmlessly to the ground, but you lack the self repair I think, and judging by how fast TotalBiscuit and friend lost HP suddenly in his latest planetside game, having vehicle regen is very helpful.

Don't forget as light assault one could always forgo the certs into the ejection seat and spend them instead on a faster/safer vehicle self-repair, which would save you from making any risky lands for repairs in the first place.

Medics are expected to do both. The 'combat' part in 'Combat Medic' doesn't mean you're expected to run around healing during combat, but rather that you're expected to fight as well. But of course you will heal while in combat, it's just very risky since whoever you are healing lights up, drawing attention to you both.
