When I login at my SOE account the first thing I see is the "Account Info" menu screen, where I can either 'save' or 'cancel' my personal data. Why doesn't it ask me to fill in the survey? I remember filling in the survey through an email I've gotten by them, but I do not seem to be able to access that from the account management menu..

Does this indicate I did something wrong? Or are you guys also getting the Account Info menu as the first page that shows up after logging in?

I too would like to hear if they're done being sent out, but I know that's the proverbial spark to the powder keg.

One can write it off as "not a beta" or "just a tech test" but it's still playing the game people get to or in our case want to do. It just might be far buggier, under an NDA, and potentially incompatible with our PC setup is all >.>

To clarify, I am confident in saying that SOE is not going to ask their external testers to jump into walls looking for a hole where they can fall through the world. People would sooner leave as that's usually a paid testers job to do the ultra boring, mind numbing $#!%.

No matter what anyone says, even the white knights calling the complainers out on being the worst kind of tester that SOE isn't looking for, our number one desire is to play Planetside 2. It's why we want into even a buggy technical test, no?

This was a sore subject when the tech test started but i want to bring more attention to this. This is what the people in the other thread didn't realize. It may only be a tech test and it may not be about going around and shooting up the other Empires and people may not be getting passed the log-in screen and while i do think vets are getting in mostly I still don't like the fact that potentially people who may not have even known the planetside series exsisted before E3 are in before other Vets.

anyways this subject dies with my post here.
First off, it's pretty arrogant to come in, drop your opinion, and then declare nobody else gets to talk about it. If you don't want the topic discussed, or discussed in a particular thread, don't start talking about it. ;)

Secondly -- people who didn't know Planetside existed before E3 2012 are future PS2 players, too, and their input is no more or less valid about the state of PS2 and what would make it more or less fun for them than a veteran's.

Fret not, veterans are in the tech test and will be growing only more and more numerous with beta to provide the voice of experience to counter-balance the voice of the novice experience and the learning curve evaluations that new players can offer.

Lets be honest, PS1 wasn't the best of FPS games due to limitations in technology. I'd not take any advice the "vets" give too seriously because since 2003 we have advanced quite far in what we can do in video games.

Those who want a straight port can kiss my ass. Welcome to the future. If I was a developer I'd be seeking competitive gamers for testing. People that care about balance and anything related to competitive play. Casual players add nothing to a game beyond filler.

What makes you think "vets" have been living in some bubble and havent played any other FPS then PS? What you call advances, meny others call devolution.

No doubt "newer" FPSs are alot better when it comes to techology, not only GFX, sound etc, but also the feel. However gameplay wise it all comes down tastes, and saying that somehow "vets" experiance with MMOFPSs is a hindrance is frankly ludicrous.

Instead of expecting to get an invite, expect nothing or the worst possible outcome. When you get a tech-test invite, you will be pleased beyond reasonable expectations. If you don't get an invite, you had proper expectations.

Most gamers today are into the modern shooters, not Planetside LIVE gameplay and other games from that era.

If Planetside 1 was so great, it wouldn't have taken a free month to get multiple pop locks in it's ninth year. I think it's a very unwise endeavor to cater to the few PS1 fans still in love with PS1, when MOST of the player base has left PS1 for a variety of reasons, including how it played compared to games that were coming out as time went on. Couple them with the new bloods that are very much used to Battlefield, Call of Duty, Borderlands, etc, and really, it's a no brainer whom the game should really be built for. A repeat of PS1 will just be a repeat of the last 9 years.

Planetside LIVE was losing existing players to more modern games. The core game play of Planetside LIVE simply wasn't holding up.

The pre-free month player numbers aren't going to keep PS2 afloat, and it's not a realistic expectation to ask the modern shooter fans to enjoy PS1 with the originally planned graphical overall. Something about a polished turd might apply to that concept, depending on whom you ask.

I think the Invites are done for tonight because after looking at the time stamps on Smed's twitter the time between when invites were sent and done when the tech test started was about 2 hours, so 5 hours ago (from this post) Smed said that invites were going out shortly so give or take anywhere between 1 and 15 minutes its still been more than 4 hours since they went out.

don't hold me to it though Smed has the final word if he posts on twitter

URGH! Logic! How can I... I can't... IT'S TOO POWERFUL!!!

I can't deny that's a huge part of it. But it does also work in reverse. It was well worth the sub at the time, but as time went on, we still opted for Battlefield, CoD, Halo, etc. Faster paced games.

It also makes convincing today's newbs it's worth a try really, really hard. "MMO + FPS? Awesome. Sub fee? **** NO!"

I mean... the free month brought a lot of us back for a bit. The nostalgia with the announcement of PS2, not so much. And we're working with a single server that see's 3 pop locks on free to play. I remember when that happened across 5 servers WITH subs :(

Most gamers today are into the modern shooters...

Most "gamers" today aren't Gamers. Some games today sell tens of millions of copies on launch week. Games in the 90s took all year to sell a few million. So where did all the gamers come from? Who's buying that shit? It ain't me.

Most lamers today are into modern shooters, bro gamers, the gamer that wants to have a hand free to smoke a bowl, drink a soda or stuff his face WHILE playing the game... on their couch.

I don't respect them and I never will. When everyone else was hanging up their Nintendo controllers and going out to buy brand name clothing that no one cares about anymore; like Stussy, if you want to be taken back a few years... I was in my basement, moddin yer doomz; building maps, editing sprites and hex files.

If only someone didn't eventually pity me enough to sleep with me, developing my taste for human flesh as a crazed sex cannibal, I'd have made my own game now and be stinking rich, racing Ferraris with Carmack on the weekends.

But anywho, I'm a gamer. People who eat up the modern shooters aimed at the xbawks bro crowd, not gamers. Wish they'd spend some of that xbawks money to pay their child support.

StumpyTheOzzie

sweeping generalisations aside, i agree with the underlying spirit of your post.

There are G4m3rz and gamers. PS2 needs the mass market appeal to be profitable but I think the more enthusiastic gamers will still get enough out of this.

It's like watching modern kids movies. They put heaps of adult stuff in there so parents don't get bored chaperoning their kids. You ask the kid what they thought and they'll say "The big fat guy farted and it was funny" and you ask the parents and they'll give you a different answer. (I hope) But they're still watching the same movie.

For some reason whenever this is discussed, ppl always go to extremes right away. You seem to assume that I or most "vets" simple wants PS with updated GFX. I dont want that, and meny things the devs are doing are fixing alot of the problems that PS has. I am not going to start a long rant about what i like and what i dont, because that isent what my last post was about.

I responded to someone who apparenly seems to think that having played PS should disqualify you from the beta, simply put that the experiance gained there is somehow a hindrance to providing good feedback. That is the part i find ludicrous.

It goes beyond any logic that actully having played a MMOFPS before makes you less qualified to weigh in on aspects of an MMOFPS.

It goes beyond any logic that actully having played a MMOFPS before makes you less qualified to weigh in on aspects of an MMOFPS.

My post was in regards to BF style mechanics and features that I feel have ruined the FPS genre at large.

As far as PS vets go, I don't care one way or the other; though some of them are extremely narrow minded. The logic is that PS1 was an FPS game made by RPG devs who didn't know much about what they were doing. I remember. I was there. The logic continues that PlanetSide was a failure, the player bleed in the first year alone was staggering; so why should we want to emulate what we already know doesn't work? How much value do our PS1 experiences hold if they do not reflect what will ultimately be the successful formula to put Massive FPS on the scene as a serious genre?
