View Full Version : ATV tactics

Seeing as the ATV is able to mount forward facing armaments (and have ppl surf on them from at least 2 previews), I was wondering what sort of tactic the community could come up to use them in wolfpack style?
So what king of weapon would be placed on them, what type of classes would man them, what would be formation they hold and what it would be used against.

I'm going to put boomers on my atv and go look for a deployed galaxy.

By seeing the videos I think they have mounted cannons and machine guns, and can be piloted by any class.
For actual combat I can only see them going to a terminal , jumping off, hacking said terminal and running away, or hit and run tactics.
For general use they'll probably be use to get to point a to point by when a galaxy or sunderer isn't available.

I was thinking more on how to configure a group of ATVs to hunt down lightnings, MBTs or Sundies.

Drive inside weird places in buildings. Point weapons at doorway. Enjoy hate /tells.

You can be shot and killed while on an ATV. They'll probably have no use beyond strapping C4 to them and suiciding them into things. And yeah I guess maybe traveling if for some reason you don't want to get a reaver, maybe if they're really expensive or something.
Moving from base to base. You have a better chance splitting up and re-grouping with ATV's... you are however really open.
I would think the mobility would be the focus of any atv tactic. I'm looking forward to flying off hills. :) wheee

I used to <3 tank hunting on my Fury in PS1, but since you can be shot off the ATV now, I probably wont use it except for maybe fast transport.

I don't know about formations or wolf packs, but I certainly do well for myself on a Fury in PS1 when I go behind the enemy's front lines and pick off stragglers and tanks that are retreating to repair.
I'm pretty concerned about the effectiveness of things like AA cannons versus armour like we saw in TB's early "night ops" video. one of the main reasons I was able to take out skyguards reliably was their lack of effective weapons against me (since it's speed advantage was nullified by me being on a fury.)

Ramming, loading with boomers then ramming, ramming with a gun, etc.

I cant see packs of them unless some outfit is just out to troll everyone. However it might be intresting to seem them in buildings but depends on how strong the weapons are as to if they are any use there or not. Where i think they will be the most use is for heavy wooded areas where planes cant see into its not that unlikly that a squad would just onto a few of them and look for some kind of ambush. They funnest tatic i can think of would be to get a bunch of infitrators to stealth ontop of the bikes not moving so that the enemy thinks that the bikes were ditched when really the infitators are about to blow there head off.

I think they I'll be incredibly useful in a variety of roles.
The first role that comes to mind is the ability of the ATV to act as a scout for an armoured spearhead, alerting the main component of the force of threats ahead. They could also be useful as a flanking force in a tank battle in between bases.
Second role could be for ATVs to act as a transport for special forces, getting places quickly and into otherwise difficult places that sunderers or galaxies would be relatively cumbersome and hazardous. This could apply for a transport for infiltrators getting into or near a viable sniping spot without the need for a big galaxy hovering over a small rocky overhead.
Perhaps during a big outfit operation, the need for a specialist squad of tank hunters, or a specialist squad of engineers could use an ATV to fortify a certain wall with AT mines and turrets quickly and effectively
The ATV has huge potential in terms of a transport vehicle for a small group, it should also have the armaments capable of defending themselves against 1-2 infantrymen, but mainly relying on speed and careful, safe routes to places for survivability. I'm personally looking forward to using ATVs

I know that making the rider take direct damage from outside fire is going to just totally gimp them though. If that's actually how it is going to be, it will make ATV's pretty much useless.
I really hope it isn't the case or that if it is that it be reconsidered.

Just wait, I bet someone's already thinking about starting up an ATV outfit.
As far as tactics go, what you're probably going to see ATVs used for is fast deploy, diversions, and C4 emplacements with wheels.

I really want to try to surf a Gal in an ATV. It's not practical, but it aught to be fun.

I really do hope a pack of ATVs roll up on me in my Lightning or Mag, It will be like shooting fish in barrell.
I'm also really looking forward to the video of a huge group of ATV launching off a cliff with all drivers bailing and jetpacking to safety, hopefully with a group of infantry below them being bombarded by a shitstorm of falling ATVs:rofl:

I wouldn't be surprised if large groups of ATVs would be able to just out kite long MBTs. Lightnings could be more dangerous because of there speed, the trick would be to swarm and distract the target while the majority of the ATVs go for the rear.

You can't compare them to furies. Furies could take a lot of bullets before dying. In Planetside 2, one guy who sees you sitting on your ATV taking shots need only line up a headshot or two and you're dead. I imagine snipers will have a field day taking out people on ATVs as you can't take cover when you're on a vehicle, really.

booo, jihad jeeps are fun. With 2000 people on a continent now I think we will need all of those stupid tricks for when fights just stalemate.
