View Full Version : Inertia while in Flight

Im curious if inertia will be a factor when you are exiting vehicles without a "hot drop" feature.

For instance, if you are flying a mosquito and bail out, will you fall straight down, or continue moving forward with momentum.

I can imagine having two very different kinds of drops if organized outfits could use light assault to "glide into" a base for a more silent night drop, than having the galaxy fly overhead.

Anyone know anything more on this?

So far, it looks like inertia does factor in. I know in the recent TB video he kept moving forward when he bailed from his Lib.

yeah, if you bail you keep going the same speed as the vehicle in videos, however it appears dmage is relative to the angle of the surface you impact. IE if you jump out on flat land heading 110 kph, seems no damage, but hit a wall and splat.

I expect that to be fixed during beta.

Though I've seen people die when bailing, guess it's a matter of height. Though height and speed should matter when you bail.

Expect this to be fixed in beta indeed.

I remember seeing that on the dumbfire bombs they inherit speed, so that suggests that inertia will indeed be present.

i thought it was cool seeing people bail out of aircraft and hitting a wall and dying. typically in games you would hit the object, take no damage, and then fall straight down.

They do have really good physics in this game so it is to be expected honestly but I guess we're just not used to it.

There seems to be no inertia when exiting moving ground vehicles though. I've seen shots of people jumping off ATVs moving at top speed, and just landing softly on the ground.

Now that I think about it, that's very correct, though do we really need inertia when exiting ground vehicles.. on the ground? Hopefully the system acts in a way that creates two scenarios. One, your vehicle is moving on the ground. When you exit it you stand still because honestly it would look a bit weird if you kept moving. Two, your ground vehicle is falling from a cliff, you exit it and you keep falling, because honestly it would look a bit weird if you didn't keep moving.

That would be an amazingly expensive drop if everyone had their own plane. It'd also be highly visible at night with a dozen aircraft coming at you vs 1 galaxy.

Yes but imagine what a wonderful distraction a squads worth of crash-and-burn aircraft would make! They'll be so worried dodging falling Mosquitos they'll never see you coming! :D

I'm sure somebody will do this sometime, just for the effect.
