Concerning the tentonhammer article, I am not sure to understand what is so hard about shooting red names and not shooting at green names.

Did that guy really rely on the color of the names to know what to shoot at ?

IMO, making target colors empire based (i.e. purple/red/blue) is even more confusing than keeping them friend or foe based (i.e. green/red) !

Edit: you may have missed 2 articles. brb

Did you have these already ?

That guy from TenTonHammer seems more used too the MMORPG way of everyone having colored names above them. BF3 and and COD games have no color on the sides that differentiates them (just shades of grey and brown), and the silhouettes in those games are pretty close, but telling friend from foe is not hard at all if you play regularly. And in PS2 you have pretty clear colors and highly different silhouettes, so I dont think that is going to be a problem.

The guy have a problem, a lot of FPS have green/blue/white for friendlies and red/no color for enemies and that since a long time.

I agree that making target colors empire related is more confusing.

If lack of distinguishable on-screen markers is the biggest mark in the cons column from my hands-on experience

If you want a game that 'hands' you the location of every enimy on a silver platter, go back to playing BF3.

Unless of course he's talking about things such as Waypoints and such. In that case, i actualy like the newer style over the old ones. Their not quite as 'in your face / in the way' as the old ones were/are.

I love how PS1 and PS2 only gives you the information you need to know about yourself, and dosnt give you hand-outs for all the other information about the world such as enimy locations (with big red triangles floating above their heads) and stuff. If i manage to find a sniper and sneak up behind him to mele/shoot him, i want to have to EARN it, not have his location handed to me on a silver platter. =)

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Hyperbole much?

The spotting system in BF3 isn't great, (I only play hardcore mode), but you should watch some PS2 videos again. It's spotting is more like BF3 than PS1.

Spotting, (if done well, please don't ignore I said "if done well"), fills that gap for thousands of player who have never met before, allowing them to communicate more effectively.

True, but 'spotting done well', to me at least, = marker shows up at X location and 'stays still' for x-seconds to indicate something was seen at that location.

Enimy location handed to you on a silver platter = BF3 spotting which plants a giant 'shoot everything you have here' sign above your head that then proceeds to follow you around for ages.

If your going to have a system in place like the 2nd of those two, then why even put in a spotting system? just have those markers permanently above everyones head 24/7 and free up the keybind for something else.

The TTH article sounds like the guy wants more MMORPG and less MMOFPS. Then again, MMORPG's are what that site is about.

Geez man... all I can say about not knowing friend from foe is, "awe, muffin. It's ok...". That's all part of understanding the tactical situation and maintaining situational awareness, etc. If every enemy is going to have some kind of glowing red "SHOOT THE HELL OUT OF ME!" name plate or what not, then they may as well give you auto aim, instagib, and a freakin parade.

Sorry, but not every game needs to be ass-easy, like WoW, etc.

No name plate on an enemy until he is actually SEEN by your side makes a world of sense to me! That's fantastic game design for an MMOFPS!

Actually, red and green is not the ideal colors to differntiate friend from foe. The red/green deficiency is the most common in those that are colorblind. For people like myself, red and green can be almost impossible to tell apart unless they're side by side an wildly different shades.

The dev have talked about having extensive UI customization. I hope this includes changing the ally tags to blue. So much easier.

(it really sucks being colorblind whilst eating those spice drops and u hate the nasty green ones)

I have no idea just what article or video i saw it in/read it in. But they HAVE SAID they are keenly aware of people who are color-blind and are working towards making the game as accessible as possible for them. So im sure there will be options to change the friend/foe colors to ones you can distinguish. And if the options are not 100% up to snuff at launch, it IS a major concern for them and it will only get better as time goes by.

This person seems like the exact type of person I don't want playing PS2.
