Logo Contest!

[Hamma]

PSU is looking for a new logo! So, in an attempt to find one we are having a contest. To apply all you need to do is be a member of our forums and create a Planetside Universe logo. What's in it for you? if your logo is picked, you will win a Custom Forum Title, and a Planetside-Universe.com Sweatshirt or T-Shirt. Winners will be narrowed down and decided on by the PSU staff. (PSU staff are excluded from the contest)

This logo will be used for a variety of things here at PSU. Including the watermark for our screenshots and some other features we have yet to announce. There are no limitations on the size of the logo at this time, as we can resize it and tweak it to fit our needs. Please include what program you created it with when you post the image.

Just to give a small hint for people who actually want to win and are taking this seriously...

Aim for real logos. Not text. Look at other companies. AT&T, GameSpy (the spy guy), VoodooExtreme, TribalWar.... All have logos that are recognizable without the text. That's what a "logo" is and I believe that is what Hamma is looking for.

honestly when it comes to logos, bitmaps are NOT the way to go. sure you've got alot of eye candy but there is no content. look at nearly all logos. extremely simplistic and memorable. thats what companies want. if people see it and immediately recognize it then perfect. job done. vectors is the best because of the way they turn out simplicitly, resize aspects, and the awesome way they can be manipulated.

I like the PSU portion of that abrax. Something real simple and a lot can be done with it. Don't really dig the spikes and pentagon though.

when you make the "logo", take all the text away and look at it. does it suck? then its probably not a good logo.

ABRAXAAS still has the best ones i think, i like the original one you made the best. in the new one you made with the same as original but two arms and a circle at the top, what's the circle supposed to be? a planet? if you could like make that whole thing into a 3d model and render it, then that would be the winnarh! if the base was actually 3d and you had like a full 3d earth it would be awesome, dunno if ur into the 3d stuff though. but how pr24 made his into a flash, you could have the planet on top spinning showing the different continents of planetside, i think yours has the best stuff to work with.

but all of the others are really great too. i really like that last one lucius posted, maybe blue on one of those shapes that are still gray :D

Ironic how? Was just asking. There is a HUGE difference in a logo and a graphic. PSU is asking for a logo. I see alot of what is considered graphic art rather than logo work and as an advertising major...well.

Anyway, not saying mine is the best, but at least it is a logo. There are a few others that also "get it" and then some that just have no clue.

Do a search on google for free host. You can usually find them as long as the file size is not too big.

I was going for a rotating logo like the banners with each empire represented equally. I also plan on making a generic PSU version.

Hell you have to remember they need the logo to be able to put on t-shirts , mouse pads , mugs and one of the important ones is to use the logo to watermark there pictures. This usually details a simplistic logo that is unobtrusive but reconisable. Putting a banner togather w/ the logo is cake, and lets not forget printing ( t-shirts ,ect..) after doing contracts for shirts /sweats and other stuff , an overly complex logo is a nightmare to print , not to mention expensive.

honestly eye candy is nothing with a logo. look at IBM. its the letters IBM scan-lined. what is there to it? nothing really, but its a LOGO. look at ford motor company, its a plus sign!(sorta) but its a masterpeice from a logo standpoint. keep these things in mind people!

I'd just like to point out that those two dragons from PR24's submission are a blatant rip from the wallpaper of a StyleXP theme, and are not his creations.

I noticed this as well, but like any other serious artist he will have to learn what happens when you steal all or part of someones intelectual property. This is why I tried to tell Hamma to have people submit logos, privatly and when the deadline pass's then post them up an a page for all to see and vote. Tribalwar had problems with this as well. <shrug>Sigh </shrug> .

i think its an awesome design. the loop needs to have work done on it though, as it looks like its just a couple of pen shapes put together. some of the areas are kinda flattened. did you skew a couple circles? because if not, that would work better

As an advertising major, this is by far, one of the best I have seen thus far. It gives a hint to all 3 factions by color, is seperated by the boxes which allows the eye to focus on the text.
