Hey guys, how big a battle are we going to have? And is there going to be massive slow down? I'm mean that would really suck. but the epic battles are soemthing I can't wait to see.

No one knows for sure, but with the system requirements as high as they are we are hoping for very high frame .rates

As a comparison, on EQ with 50+ people just standing around I'm fine, with casting and fighting, it slows down a little, but that system is a bit antiquated and is also buggy as all hell from years of sloppy fixes/patches.

I'm hoping they'll do something about lag as well... I would hate to slow down in the middle of any combat with more than, say, 30 people fighting.

Yes, exactaly. I should not have to suffer because they cannot afford broadband or it is not avaliable in their area. I am not saying dont let them play, im just saying make them all play together.

As long as you accept the fact that it is NOT fair for me to have a slow game because of other people i got no beef with you. Im sure if i had 56k i would not like me. I dont think im better, its just that they are worse. I have dsl. By the time this game come out most people who play games online will have broadband. I just dont think that it is fair that someone who pays extra money for broadband should not be able to enjoy their broadband because other people have 56k. Im sure that they will let 56k people into the game so it does not really matter what i think.

Well i don't mind 56ks much. If they slow down the server and in return my connection then yeah sure i would like it if they could have specified servers but it's not the end of the world.

But i wonder will a 56k connection be enough for PS. This isn't your typical online game, there's gonna be a LOT of data incoming.

By the time PS is out 56ks will probably not be able to handle the data. They should limit your graphics or something because its not fair if i pay for cable or dsl and i have to suffer the lag produced by some cheep 56ker. Even now, i dont know how someone could play online games with a 56k.

u ppl do realize that its us cable guys that cause the lag right?
56kers do not have the upload speed to cause lag. it is us and the server power that truly affects lag. 56kers simply cant upload enough data fast enough to cause lag, specially on an mmog.

I have to agree. The only problems I have ever had with a 56K person was when i was one and couldn't move. Everyone on broadband was doing just fine except me and my 56k.

The only thing a 56k'er will lag is themselves.

Maybe the network code in Planetside is the most elegant ever written and eventually will go on to become the next iteration of the internet. Maybe its packets will stay true and fleet without regard to whether your machine is even plugged in. Just maybe the prediction code knows exactly what we are going to do on any given millisecond based on the server's knowledge of us (which is every dark little almost-an-exploit thing). Maybe the level of detail system is so unbelievably good that you can watch a stadium full of people emote without your video card flying out the back of your pc.

Or maybe we'll just have to live with lag like we do in every other game we play.

I guess, the people that think 56kers cause them to lag, has neither played Tribes 2 or EQ, in both games other ppl's lag does not effect yours. its all bout coding and shit, and Verant is not going to make a game where the 56kers cause everyone to lag, so stop the freakin hatered towards them... not everyone can pay 30-50 or so bucks a month for cable/dsl
ofcourse I know on some games like jedi knight 2 56kers cause other ppl lag, but im quite 100% sure that verant will be smarter then that... although I hate that company, it is a good thing that they are making Planet Side, cause they have the money and the know how, to make a good game.

But my point still remains, will a 56k be able to handle the buttload of data that will be going in and out. I mean this isn't your typical FPS or MMO game. I guess only time and betas will tell. :D

I think that a 56k will be able to handle the load, although it will be taxing and slow.

56k= suck. Guys everytime i'm playing mohhaa and some lagger comes into the game we all lagg for it. thats why everyone flames his ass until he leaves. The point is 56k's is directly or indirectly going to hurt this game. what happsn if were fighting a huge battle and 56ker's are all lagging standing in one spot ? thats gonna suck for both teams .

I remember my 56k days, they werent all that long ago. And where I lived i was only getting like 24k :ugh:
