Now having the feature is pretty cool, and it does help you spot ground troops a little better, but honestly it makes you a glowing beacon at night for aircraft to come and destroy you.
It has more negative uses than positive, what do you think?

Apparently some parts of the map are going to be so dark that you'll need the lights or you won't be able to see anything around you

Apparently, someone thinks aircraft pilots must be blind during the day else head lights in the dark wouldn't be a balance issue.

No, they do not "have more negatives than positive". They're lights. Can you see? No? Then you need a light. If you can see, then don't turn the light on. If you're worried somebody ELSE can see YOU....
TURN THEM OFF!

@SFJake
Dunno... None of us have played the game yet. I'm sure if you can't we can ask for a light switch.

I'm not even sure infantry can go without lights on their weapons. I know not every video features a light on the rifles, but you have to remember nights never got too dark probably because not every weapon had a light fitted onto it for E3.

Nights are variably dark based on solar movements.

You can turn weapon lights off. Confirmed by Ms. Purrfectstorm at E3. I'm sure that you can turn vehicle lights off as well, or that they'll implement it during Beta.

They mentioned you can turn your headlights on vehicles off.

they said there would be night-vision stuff, so your not forced to use lights..

i believe they are a medication...ie it should take up a slot on the vehicle.

Undoubtedly with a tradeoff, because a 1kg object will totally take the slot something else could fit in.

I say use the flashlight to spoof around a corner and alert enemieso n the other side in the hopes they'll rush around it to find you, but in reality you're crouching in the far corner ready to gun them down when they round it.
Think tactically people.

I would love seeing a video of an infiltrator running around in the night, scaring the crap out of people with their flashlight. :D

I am amused at this thread. Flashlights being useless? Very much not so.

To see and be seen, or not to see and be seen. That... is the question. -dramatic bow-

I know some will be trying to adjust contrast and color setting on monitors to make the night's darkness a non issue. I for one hope this is not a possibility and hope the evenings in PS2 are Pitch Black! Don't get me wrong advantages are great but to see this feature squandered away because you can use monitor settings to eliminate it out will be a real crime to gaming.

well the way I see it you can either use your headlights and risk being hit by an aircraft, or not use your headlights and not use/not shoot a tank.
sidebar: a spotlight might be an interesting idea.

Given how dark the night looks in demo videos so far (they may retune this of course during the beta process), I suspect night vision will be a far more useful feature than headlights, but we'll see.

From what I've seen in the videos, the light doesn't cast far enough. It fades out at somewhere like thirty feet. It needs to cast much farther out, lighting up more distant object and targets.
That's my only complaint about the lights (both vehicle and infantry).

Not only does PSU forum automatically merge posts... It also automatically corrects CAP rage. Interesting.

Lights on vehicles just sounds like another choice to me. Going without will make you harder to see but also harder for you to see in return, turning them on will make it easier to see but make yourself an easier target as well.
Although, it makes me wonder if vehicles will have access to thermal/nightvision like Infantry will have access to as options on their optics.

I'm thinking no headlights with a purple/black vehicle camo being great for night ops. But how will aircraft fair? They have big shiny engines and contrails.

And then the rest of their game will look like crap so they have some kind of advantage that they could just buy a cert for.

Don't think contrails will be all that helpful at night and the glowing engines doesn't make it a whole lot easier to see them from what I've seen. You get a general idea on their location and might be able to shoot at them but without lock-on weaponry you probably won't have an easy time hitting them.

We already were to stated to be able to customize the glowey color.

The game may be desaturated and look weird, but we will see you clear as day. ;)
I'll gladly and openly admit that I will mess with my monitor to "cheat" the night.
HOWEVER: I do hope that the devs manage to find a way to make this impossible.

So do I.
Or to in fact make it harder to see upon doing.
