Does anyone know what the music in the 'Death is no excuse' Trailer was? or was it made by soe?

I thought I heard someone mentioning Two Step From Hell but I never checked into it.

The teaser trailer featured "1000 Ships of the Underworld" by Two Steps From Hell. I'm not familiar with the piece in the full trailer, but it does suspiciously sound like TSFH as well.

If it's made specifically for the trailer (which I doubt), it certainly wasn't by any SOE staff. I don't know if Blur studios, who apparently produced the trailer, have their own music producers, but usually trailer music like this is made by people like TSFH, Immediate Music, X-Ray Dog and others who specialize in this sort of "OMG uber pathos-dripping epic orchestral" trailer-fitting music.

Thanks, I assumed it would be some type of epic music(TSFH) but I was sure.

/raises hand

Anybody know if the music from the early PS2 trailers is available anywhere? It sounds like a more ominous version of the old main title loop, and I'd like to have it for the sake of complete-ness. I'm a bit anal retentive that way. I *collect* music.

(I hope I'm correct in my assumption that this was produced in-house... I'd kinda hate to think somebody else got punted with no warning when we wedged our man Don in there....)

That actually came from one of the in-house sound designers/composers at the Austin site. Man, haven't heard that in a while. And for a while that's all we heard as it was the only piece we had in during the earlier stages of dev!

Oh okay. So nobody got punted when Don came in. Good, good....

/raises hand again, waves it wildly

Uh... can we get a good quality mp3 of it, please? Now or eventually?

Actually, any chance of a proper soundtrack CD/downloadable at some point down the line? Given the reaction the leaked, unfinished soundtrack got, I think there'd be enough buyers.

If it's made specifically for the trailer (which I doubt)
I reconsider on this one, after just watching the trailer yet again. :D If it wasn't specifically made for the trailer, or at least re-arranged for it, then the whole editing would have needed to entirely cling to the music in order to fit as well as it does. That's not usually how it works.

Still, no idea who made it.

I want a copy. Seeing as how it prolly won't be used in-game at this point, I don't see how it could hurt. Am I alone?

Given everything I've heard musicwise from PS2 so far (what's up on youtube, trailers, etc), I would -love- to buy a legitimate soundtrack with it all in mp3 format. That is definitely something I would pay money for.

Absolutely not. :D

Well, at the part when the two ligh assaults land in the middle of the fight and the actual theme starts I was pretty sure that this is a track from the original PS - but I cannot find the matching one.

You mean in the cinematic? Give us a time -- somebody here will ID the track in question for you.

Yep, at the cinematic trailer starting at 0:54 (not sure if timestamp links work here). http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=41QFL4QB3NE#t=53s

It may double-play every note (not a musican myself, I don't know the jargon), so the original may have been slower. (so not allegro energico, but andante maestoso maybe - if that tells you something)

Timestamp works fine, but I honestly don't recognize the music from old PS1 at all (and I've been listening to it a lot during my free month). At any rate, I thought it had been established it was some cinematic-sounding thing by Two Steps From Heck.

I would like to see the stuff released too! We even had a temp piece in for a while that was done by Rodney. It was very cool.

However, that's not for me to decide or do. The music, although not used in game, does belong to SOE so it's kind of up to the powers that be to release it.

I am not sure where the music for the Death is No Excuse trailer came from or who wrote it.

Well... the crowd at PSU has been quasi-successful in agitating for things before, music-wise. Just pass it along that we're interested. :groovy:
