View Full Version : it would be nice to see LA get full face coverage

I think LA need full face coverage masks, like in avatar or something to go along with their helmets and not just visors.
upon viewing the trailer again, it occured to me that while jet packing around as fast as a plane, one would not be able to breathe well enough to function in a combat role, if at all.
I know, I know "you are asking for realism in a futuristic shooter on an alien world"
no, im not, im fully capable of what is known as suspension of disbelief. However, as any good writer will tell you, when it is easy to avoid a scenario in which the reader/viewer will have to suspend disbelief, it is better to do it. every little bit helps a little bit.
if it were ok to throw everything to the wind expecting the reader/viewer to do the work for you, every action movie would have the scene from the doritos commercial in it... you know the one where they drive an el camino through a fine china store that sells explosives out the back after beating evil knievel's record of cars jumped.
the reason I thought of the masks from avatar with helmets, was because a high speed maneuvering warrior would need full and unobstructed vision, and being LA would also need a less armored appearance than say a heavy, so the theme is kind of fit with a mask like that.
Not a huge deal, but then again it's just changing the appearace of a character model, not reprograming animations or rebalancing the game.

<Light armor (http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/album/q4q5tnh4w8/20120601_4fc90b392f368.jpg)> vs. <Heavy armor. (http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/album/q4q5tnh4w8/20120601_4fc90b49050bc.jpg)>
I'm hoping the words "cash shop" will explain the possible game plan regarding masks. I don't think they'll restrict making the light assault look heavily armored either, it's not like the extra padding actually needs to do anything besides make them some extra cash.

The jetpacks go neither high enough nor fast enough, especially in game, for breathing to be an issue.

The in-game jet packs are pretty much just Jump jets. They don't go very fast or very high to warrant oxygen masks.

If this (Or something similar) was available for Station Cash, I'd pay.

I'd actually be willing to pay to go without a helmet, or at least as minimalistic of one as possible. Gotta show off my beautiful hair and captivating eyes. Or something.

I would think the Formfitting armor would be enough of a distraction.

They said they wanted to make the female models be just another solider on the field.
They said they didn't want to turn the female models into sex objects in skimpy fantasy clothing.
They failed.

And to summarize they are going to have lots of cool helmet options for sale in the cash shop.

I'm not a fan of the helmets either, but purely for aesthetic reasons. The firswt thing I do once we can use the cash shop is buy a new helmet for the LA and any other class with one of those 70's sci-fi helmets.

Yeah I like the seventies sci fi helmets. But I can see myself buying all the cosmetics that are available. Ive heard that they will have http://images.wikia.com/warhammer40k/images/5/55/Raven_Guard_Chaplain_by_rctdelta20.jpg and Im looking forward to my max rocking this look.

Is it a guy or a girl though? :P
It really is not as bad as it could be, atleast the armor covers the entire body, and does not go chainmail bra on all of us.

Terminal velocity of a skydiver is around 122mph, and you don't need a full helmet or breathing apparatus while skydiving (altitude dependent, obviously).
Note that in the actual game you won't be moving anywhere close to that speed jetpacking around, so there is no need to suspend disbelief. Note also that customization options will almost certainly allow you to wear a helmet if you really feel you need one.

i dont think anyone will have the chance to pick their hair. whats the point when everyone has head protection? sure you couldtake it of but if thats an option i hope they make it so your armor reflects that fact and can get 1 hit killed by any gun or exsplosion around you.

That was a pretty early image. I'm fairly certain that in that image they were not wearing helmets because the ha helmet was not finished yet. Heck, even the armour looks quite different than now.
Have no fear. In ps1 we had helmetless, berets and goofy civil war hats to put on your dome. These aesthetic changes had no effect on your armour. I'm sure the cash shop will have similar options.

A few LA things I'm already planning to purchase, assuming they are available in the cash shop.
- No helmet
- Helmet with full face (and neck) covering
- Orange tint for the visor, to make it look more like PS1 Agile armor
I would buy all three of those and rotate between which one I was actively using.
I'm sure there are plenty of cosmetics I'd use for other classes and vehicles, but LA is pretty much the only one that I've already got plans for what I want.

There has never been such a thing as a free to play video game that I have heard of (I'm sure I missed out on some indy title that collapsed under the weight of development costs in under a year). Certainly not for an mmo of this caliber. F2P is a marketing gimmick, and it's not free.
Some way, some how you pay for everything. Welcome to life.

Played STO for 5 months, didn't pay a dime, had a blast. Played APB reloaded a couple months, didn't pay a dime, still had a blast (until the hackers made it unbearable). Plenty of other games are free to play and you can play them just fine and still have a blast for free.
It all comes down to vanity, and most F2P games will let you buy Cash shop items with an in game currency, it just takes time vs money. Sorry you have such a horrible outlook on life, but free things do exist if you have a little self control. Unless of course you mean you pay in your personal time, which is a really cycnical way of looking at things. If you have fun, who cares how much time you sink into something?

I know this. They are monetizing their game off of decals which was my point. Helmet, armor, and camouflage options are in this category, thus I can fork over money to play Planetside Military Waifu Dress-Up Simulator. ;)

I really hope the Cash shop is robust and heavily stocked. I can't wait to see what kind of looks I can pull off. Also really hoping for Holiday themed Decals and such.

I agree, I dont like the look of my NC LA when it comes to the helmet. I mean I like the bulky style- but I wish there was more face-cover.

My apologies. I took your comment as sarcasm. That it's to say you did not like the monetization of f2p video games.
I've heard many rail against f2p in general, and I'm guilty of doing so in the past, but as long as people realize it's a gimmick and was never intended to actually be free they can much better understand when it's done right (League of Legends) and when it's completely fucked up (World of Tanks).

Agreed. And it beats subscription-based payment models any day. I'm even fine with upfront payment alongside a cash store similar to how Guild Wars 2 is set up.

I think that's female, not for sure, but the hips seem too round for male. Regardless, they're not THAT bad. The outfits are about what you'd expect of "performance" concious gear. Like the Olympic athletes, or dancers, they don't wear the skimpy outfits simply to be sexy, they wear them so there's no risk of getting snagged/caught/tripped up by anything.

The only player models which have sexier man asses than the Vanu Sovereignty soldiers are the TR cloakers.
But that VS LA is definitely a woman and I'm afraid that all of you who thought otherwise will have to turn in your heterosexuality membership cards.

Really? Awh, man! Not again! I always have to turn mine in and then I have to go through the silly long process of forging another one. :(

On a serious note, is it a girl? It could go both ways very easily. I mean, look at her hair. Not to say that women can't have short hair and that it could just be that they had to shave it off to put the helmet model on the character, but still. >.>
