after all the media that SoE has pumped out with in game play and participating in the tech test / SoE community event, playing Planetside 2 has given me a thirst that nothing on the market can quench. I'm literally just sitting around waiting for beta at this point, and it seems when I try and kill the boredom by playing another FPS like BF3 or TF2 it seems to just leave a bad taste in my mouth and are unable to play it for more than 10 mins.

does anyone else feel the same way?

Yeah, hard to play anything else. I can't even play PS1 that long before I lose interest anymore. I bought several games in the Steam sale and have not touched them, nor do I have interest to any time soon.

I actually tried a couple Facebook games today... Made me feel a little sick inside.

My gaming has been this way for the past month. I can't even log into TERA. I've played a little Aion, even tried Mabinogi again... hell, I can barely even stand Planetside LIVE. Picked up a few steam games... can't bring myself to even bother downloading most of them. At least not yet.

I just want my Planetside 2. I need that feeling I got back in 2003, that same feeling when I first dropped onto the battlefield, alone, taking down two curious VS with my Gauss rifle from behind a rock and then taking that tower. I felt like a hero, like I made a difference. I was such a newb.

I want that feeling back, only this time I'm fighting for the right side!

I'm actually trying to avoid the beta, because I know that if i would be accepted into it, it would most likely suck my life away. Sort of busy on school stuff, and distractions like PS2 don't help ;)

I played TF2 yesterday...got bored after 10 minutes and went to sleep!
Planetside 2 is like, idk...killing all other games or something!

I'm not having any trouble. I'm very bad at getting caught up in stuff like that. I've owned BF3, for instance, since it came out, and I've probably only played about 40 games of it since then. I used to get really hyped up for stuff when I was a teenager. Halo 2 comes to mind. These days though, I just take in all the news and info, and wait.

Not to say I'm not excited, but it's not effecting my life at all. Unless telling everyone I know about it counts. >.>

I've been playing better. Playing hardcore 64 man Rush on Battlefield 3 for practice with a lot of Mount&Blade Warband multiplayer thrown in.

So, no, I don't know what you are going through. But it does sound like it sucks. Take comfort in the fact that many of us will be in the beta in under a month.

I wish I'd played PS1... I'd looked it up way back but don't do p2p. I'll buy games, but not subscribe.

I want a beta key so bad. This is a dream game, balanced or not.

Yeah, you can easily say I'm an oddball... =)

Aye, I to am in the despair of gaming that is waiting for PS2. I have like 8 or 9 games installed on PC and I have my PS3 and haven't really been able to get into anything. Just have to wait a few more days hopefully.

My gaming has been this way for the past month.

Past month? Try past 5 years.

And its not because I played PS1: I didn't.

I've lost so much hope in all facets of gaming and to see Planetside 2 is a refreshing possibility.

I'm amazed I missed the first one.

I don't have a gaming life anymore. My gaming life is playing whats good, which is almost only whats old, which means I'm getting sick of my hobby. Thats not good.

So like TC, I'm really only waiting for this. I'm doubtful, since I actually consider BF3 and COD4 to be the trash of gaming and this takes a few things from them, but I believe it can pull off something great with what it has.

Its not like there is anything better somewhere to wait for.

Im firing up Shogun 2 total war/Empire Total war/Napoleon total war right now. Atleast i can get my Strategy game fix. I have already deleted BF 3 from my computer.

I stopped playing BF 3, b/c its not a good judge to get me ready for PS 2. All i find myself doing in BF3 is spamming the Q button and shooting at triangles. BAD habit to have.

No, I'm quite the opposite actually. I've been playing a lot of Planetside 1 recently. A lot more than I usually do, and it's left me somewhat saddened. I know PS2 isn't going to be anything like PS1, a game I've been playing for years and continued to play. I'm left really saddened and depressed that PS2 isn't going to be like PS1, but I'm still optimistic for the game and hope it isn't completely awful.

Definitely. I sit there at my computer and think 'what do I want to play?' I know exactly what I want to play but I can't play it so I have to settle for TF2 and then I end up getting pissed off at something and stop playing and think 'ugh. still a good three days or so...I need something to do until then'.

CoD4 was actually quite good considering it was their first shot at something new. BF3 is just awful, I can't even play it anymore.

But the first half of your post is me a lot of the time. There was a time when I was younger that I would read a gaming magazine and EVERY game looked interesting, I wanted to try them all. Now, as I've gotten older and the gaming community has been corrupted and the industry has gotten lazy I look at all the games coming and know that 95% of them will be shoddy and disappointing. Even worse for those of us on the PC side of things, constantly getting screwed over by the likes of Activision, EA, Ubisoft, etc. Not that there aren't good games anymore, we've had some awesome games over the past year but very few that I think will have serious longevity or that will be looked back on so fondly in the future.

It terms of FPS shooters, yeah.. I can't play anything right now without a part of me wishing it was the PS2 CB.

On the other hand, I recently got interested in a study sim: DCS A10. That and its 680 page manual will keep me busy until I'm brought into beta. No game experience will make me feel quite like I feel when I light a target up with the 30mm GAU-8.

TF2 is five years old now, and it is still the best MP FPS on the market. Everything else is broken at a technical level. It is one thing for these games to sell well, but I don't understand how buggy, unbalanced garage can get scores higher than 7s let alone 9s.

But I am enjoying Skyrim. I still hate the combat, but the vistas in that game sure look great on GTX 670.

I look at my games, play RDR for 10 minutes, die, then quit.

Play TF2, 3 matches in, quit

Go on PSU, the TRG forums, then PS2.com, then I just sit around thinking about how awesome it will be come open beta...

Planetside 2, you have effectively killed gaming for me until I can play you

Been playing Natural Selection 2 with friends to pass the time and it is A LOT of fun. Its a mix between RTS (one commander) and FPS and requires tons of team work. Its $34 right now to pre-order which gets you in the beta, which is constantly being updated, and with each update it just gets better. If you have the dough Id recommend it for sure.

Check it out. http://www.naturalselection2.com/

Is it possible to have withdrawl symptoms from a game you've never played? I may be a first case scenario!

OP: I've been feeling this was since about January.

I've been playing the fast TTK games (TF2, BF3) to practice my aim and to try to get the feel of PS1 TTK out of my system.

Also, with the addition of the headshot in PS2, I've started aiming up a bit.

I myself am looking forward to a nice FPS change and this could not be coming at a better time. I am so pleased that overall we have a good strong development team that is a throw back to a time when making a game wasn't about the money, but about making an awesome game and growing a community.

The timing for this game is very well planned, and I hope they continue to build community just like PS1 did.

Also, I have missed blowing up stuff too.

Planetside 2 not only destroyed my sense of gaming, it has officially made any other MMOs look "meh".:)

Any other MMO is typically an RPG :p The genre is so horridly, repetitively rehashed, it'd have to be an MMO-platformer with a tinge RPG growth for it to be revolutionary at this point. That tinge couldn't involve straight up power growth either. I'm convinced a traditional leveling scheme in an MMO is part of the problem. Too much of the world goes obsolete at the level cap, and that's a really big flaw to an "immersive" world.

Naw... Planetside did/does what the standard fare FPS doesn't - massive cluster-**** battles. Also, most of the world doesn't go obsolete because you leveled/ranked up a bit ;)

Planetside paints a picture of a game full of teamwork and solidarity, an odd example of the genre where individualism won't get you very far and is kind of against the point of the whole ordeal.

The games I have been trying to fill this particular void (and why most of them fail) are;

TF2; the class system strong arms the player into working co-operatively even when they aren't trying to, the downside is people make poor class choices (5 snipers, 3 spies) and crush their own team from within.

Red Orchestra 2; A tad too oppressive but that is the whole point of the game. The squad system is almost redundant; offering players no incentive to stay together or follow their squad leaders anywhere. Matches often dissolve into squad leaders losing their patience with their subordinates cowering in ditches and deciding to roleplay russian commisars (execute them)

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars; an underappreciated gem of a game. It's fate is quite tragic as is the developer's; having gone on to make BRINK and watch that fail as well. This is almost as close as I have gotten to an objective based team shooter since the glory days of Joint Ops and BF2. Like TF2; the class system tricks you into playing co-operatively without you even realising it and each map's unique set of objectives and location make the game a joy to play. Where it falls down are a few baffling odd design decisions.
Firstly; the devs animated the game at 30fps and threw a fps cap of the same number on it (presumable for the 360/PS3) which makes the game look like a claymation film once you've unlocked the framelimiter.
Secondly; the servers are limited to 24 players max. To it's credit; the games never feel small thanks to the well designed frontline system; it feels like a wasted oppurtunity. Whether it was to stay true to Wolfenstein's server limit or to accomodate console players I don't know but I know when I learnt I wasn't getting 64 player action I was dissapointed.
Finally; they released the game in the same week as TF2. Confident maybe but suicidal? Definitely.

Tribes; Ascend; As you're probably tired by now I will sum up this wonderful game with as much brevity as is appropriate; GOTTA GO FAST

A few years ago I bought a combo pack of the original battlefield games from the bargain bin. Pretty sure I installed it once, but then shortly after I started using the Windows 7 beta instead of XP and forgot all about it. Anyhow, the other I figured I'd kill some time and try it (and my other old games) out. Let me tell ya, Battlefield's controls and "feel" sucks compared to Half-life/Quake3/Unreal (the originals). I played me some Half-life Blue Shift the other day too, much more my kind of FPS. I might play some Unreal 2 single player again... One day I'll finish that game!

I'm hoping (but pretty sure) that PS2 will offer the longevity that other shooters don't - I had some good laughs playing as a squad on Battlefield 2, 2142 and to a slightly lesser extent, BC2. Playing these games without a squad is only fun for so long, and people tend to get bored of them pretty quickly because of the rinse and repeat gameplay. Once you can't get a squad with people you know, playing becomes much less fun (for me).

Since PS1 was the game that held our group together the longest (now we mostly just play forums together as everyone is always off playing different stuff) but I know that everyone is stoked to play Planetside again, so I'm kinda hoping for a return to the good old days of social gaming but with everything that 2012 offers in terms of graphics and gameplay.

I was excited about brink then it launched I bought it played it and felt violated by bethesda. The lack of any game content was the major contributer. 4 maps per side 4 upgrades per gun and 4 months extra of a wait to play what seemed like a beta. I lost alot of respect for bethesda with that one.

Happens everytime I set my eyes on a yet to be release game that looks awesome.
