Can anyone else see them potentionally being reminiscent of the republic dropships from starwars? With the laser beams and all...

Do they use faction specific weapons. or do each faction share the same weapons for the common pool vehicles?

Same weapons on all common pool vehicles currently

Good point. I'm not sure. But I totally want a republican gunship feel for a galaxy gunship.

Solid laser beams jetting from the sides sweeping the ground and all.

This niggles me a bit, I think they should get laser weapons as default on the galaxies, lightnings etc. It will look weird with scythes and galaxies and lightnings with magriders.

a little disappointing, but not unexpected. Maybe they can add faction specific sidegrades in the future.

Honestly I'm -really- hoping that a "hold the trigger down for a solid, straight, damage-over-time beam" weapon will be in place for Vanu troops. Maybe the Lasher, maybe the Lancer... but something. It's just too cool for the VS not to have.

Empire specific weapons for the common pool vehicles would definitely be cool. I'll be playing as the TR, but it would be awesome to see a Vanu liberator firing off plasma bombs or something.

What is the point of Vanu specific sidegrade weapons when currently in PS1 the common pool weapons are better than the Vanu specific weapons?

Considering that a lot of the ES variants of the common pool vehicles in the first game had more faction appropriate weapons, I totally expect to see ES customization options added to NS vehicles. After release if not sometime earlier during the beta process.

Agreed, it's easy to do asset wise and goes a long way towards making the empires feel more distinct. Though I would like to see more than weapon upgrades. They should have faction tech for the vehicles as well. Like say, a cloaking device when stationary for certain Vanu vehicles?

They would have to severely limit the range. Laser beams tend to have pretty good range.

Their weapons already "lose potency over distance, causing less damage the further they travel before impact" (wiki) which would limit their usefulness. Though still being able to hit an escaping enemy aircraft despite it being 1km away would still make it rather useful. But then they might just limit the range as you said already.

I didn't say anything about PS1. I only said it would be cool if common pool vehicles could have empire specific weapons for PS2.

It would add a bit style to the NS vehicles on an empire basis IMO.

Not to mention it just makes sense. Matter of fact I would find it strange to see a Vanu vehicle that hadn't been modified with alien tech.

would be really interesting on the scythe, would require A LOT of skill to maintain the bead on the target, but would look so cool.

It would look even cooler as an aa weapon, beams chasing aircraft around the sky.

And *maybe* as an AV weapon variant.

While beam weapons would look cool.
They have the inherent disadvantage of being a permanent tracer too.

That's probably because the patents from Nanite Systems aren't sold to the empires, but rather leased to the different empires, and the only part that isn't proprietary are the weapons on the mounts (seeing as you can change them). The empires haven't taken the time to make their own weaponry for the Galaxy yet, as a new influx of weaponry options from NS has made R&D difficult to justify before the full combat capabilities of their new patterns are fully tested.

Either that, or everybody is just too lazy, and they are happy enough that after years, Nanite Systems has finally added modular weapon mounts on it's vehicles :groovy:
