just was looking at a pic and I saw that the VS medics backpack covers the back of his head pretty nicely. Will the backpack deny snipers headshots from the rear?

vanu is the master race, if they are handicapped then what does that make NC and TR?

My guess is that from a gameplay standpoint, backpacks are purely cosmetic. They will probably not influence the hitbox of a player in any way. Shooting the outer edges of a players backpack from the side will probably do no damage, and shooting a player in the head through their backpack will probably be no problem.

Gameplay > realism, and it's better for gameplay to keep hitboxes simple and consistent in infantry combat.

Logical thinkers and real combatants.

Where is this "master race" by the way? The Sovereignty is a bunch of space LARPers (not to indicate LARPing is bad... some are just terrible at it.)

I don't think headshotting Vanu will be hard. All that glitter and fairy dust makes them highly visible, as are the NC with their bright yellow crest on their forehead reading like a "shoot me here" sign.

I'm sure the hit box is the same, but it could get irritating figuring out where the head begins behind that pack.

SoldierDash
2012-07-28, 09:50 PM
Yea, I'm sure that will be purely cosmetic. However, having played as a sniper in many games I could see that being a form of camo, as the odd shape could throw off my aiming for a short bit, and buy them a little extra time. It would be very situational though, and any camo benefits would be minuscule and mostly unnoticeable.

It could even have a negative effect, as that particular backpack is bright white and could make aiming easier. Making you a more pronounced target then the rest of your squad.

Don't worry about it, it's not like the medics will be running backwards just to avoid headshots. Hell, they probably wont even find out about the protection from the backpack. Besides, just shoot him in the body. Plus I think they might make it so that shooting backpacks will count as hitting the body.

Human.

Because shooting a persons backback in real life will wound them. Slow down to think about what you said again xD

Then you need to stop thinking.

The funny part of all this is the OP thinks the backpack has more armor then the body armor thats meant to lessen bullets damage. LOL

I aslo see this backpack as a easy target being so shiny it will stand out big time just aim at the top & boom free kill.

If anything the OP should ask them to re color it to help the poor vanu from being spotted so easily.

Those things are a concern if not planed for, in other game for a example, part of the landing gear did protect the engine from behind, problem was penetration angel was all taken into account, but the gear itself wasn`t destroyable so it took all the bullet which should have ripped the engine apart, so the DB-7 Flying Tank was born. I think it is the TR MAX, has his back head "visualy" protected as well.

Though is fixed, but should make clear what counts (aka bullet go through back unhindert or backarmor "behind" the head counts as head).

it wouldn't be a backpack at that point it be a solid object or a safe at arund 1500lbs lol.

unless you are trying to say a tank is just a super big backpack xD lol

@Ceska

Look at all the MAX units None of them have a super armored helm the helm is no more armored then the heavy assault.

MAXs have allot more overall HP.

If you watch some of the E3 footage PPL were owning with maxes day 1 by day 3 a heavy assault killed 3 max units in about 6s per max unit he was putting his LMG into the MAXes head about 4 meters away xD was funny to watch best part was he died to a medic lol. the MAXes were total nubs but it showed that MAXes were not the omfg run away its a max crap.

Ceska
2012-07-30, 02:10 PM
Yeah, I've seen that MAX's are far from being unstoppable... I hope they will find a usefull role for MAX's, it's not obvious from footage

NB : they still have the more armored helmet of every class, from a visual point of view

I yet to see if you can flash bag a MAX if so MAXs might be in deep crap because they will be used often in close combat

That is not what I would call near-impossible. Besides, people will make what you call "near impossible" shots all the time (It's not like it doesn't happen in real life).

If someone peeks their head out from behind cover, for instance, they're going to eventually get shot in the head - it's the only place they can get shot. (Assuming all enemies don't get taken out first, heh)

What will make headshots even more awesome, if the lag compensation is good and i play with my 150-200ms latency and shoot people who are in the open on my screen but are in cover on their screen, ahh. Good times.. :D

Isn't there a Terry Pratchett book with that in it? Million to one shots happen 9 times out of 10 if:
You're the lovechild of a king and a scullery maid.
You don't know you're the heir to the throne.
You have no training with bows and arrows.
You're the last line of defence.

RJTravis

No fabric is bulletproof.

Its bullet resistant not bullet proof.

It may stop a 9mm round at 50 meters but it not going to stop a .50cal round thats made to bust thru thick armored plating at over a mile away.

I understand this is a game & they use alien tech but think about it why wouldn't the use the backpack as full body armor? i mean your trying to say its bullet proof stops all bullet i mean dam they should use it as a suit.

not relevant to the question of whether a backpack could be made bulletproof in the planetside world
