View Full Version : Nothing New but Upgrades?

So when ever it is suggested that PS2 could use a vehicle x eventually someone says that it might be an upgrade for vehicle y.
Will there be an AMS---Sunderer upgrade
Will there be a Loadstar---Galaxy upgrade
artillery--------------- lightning upgrade
...and so on.
I guess this makes a lot of sense money wise to only add upgrades and not brand new vehicles but I will be disappointed if SOE doesn't proactively add more vehicles to planetside 2.

I agree. I need an Enforcer. Not some upgrade. There is no way you can upgrade a Tank to a buggy. That would be a downgrade technically, but the Enforcer was the most fun vehicle for me and it will be greatly missed. I am sure we will see buggies in a patch down the road. Way too many buggy fans for SOE not to put them in.

I would imagine they will actually add in those vehicles everyone wants such as the Assualt buggies and such. Along with new maps.
There will be much more than we have seen post beta.

It makes alot of sense to add new vehicles from a money perspective. Even if the vehicles they add are given free initially.
Its a whole new tree they create for upgrade purchases :D

They have said they will be making new assault buggies and if I remember correctly they will be faction specific.

True that. You don't shoot infantry with the thresher, you shoot vehicles. My brother and I held the bridge against the enemy, ripping up their tanks. then we had the ditch the thing because we ran out of ammo. It looked so cool in black and red though.
Buggies will make a return, but balancing them will be a bitch. People don't expect buggies to be as devastating as tanks, but I imagine they will have to be to make up for the lack of armor and their high speed. Wait... how is high speed a disadvantage?
Well, seeing as how some people are against one-man tanks already, I think it bears mentioning that even if buggies could be one-manned, it'd probably be suicide to look away from your path or else come to a complete stop, making dedicated gunners more of a must. Besides, I relate the lightning more closely to the buggies than I do to the MBT's.

Put some cannons on a jetski and use it to hunt magriders.

I don't know how effective buggies could possibly be in PS2, with a faster time-to-kill than PS1. In PS1 it would take 5-6 pheonix shots to take out a Thresher, in this one I can't imagine it taking more than 2-3.

i think to an exstent this could be smart. some things like more specilized vehicles, like the skyguard should be a vareint removing a buggies weapon system and replacing it is ally ou need to make that vehicle.
now other ones, you could prolyl do an arty conversion on a lightning, but id point you to the size artillery are, and how small the lightning is, i feel it would be a comp out. that said, given that its so extreamly limited in scope, it might be a good decision, as more players will benifit from it.
things like hte loadstar, as they exsisted in ps1, would make no sesne as a galaxy conversion, they filled insanely diffrent roles, the same with the sunderer being the ams. the thing with teh ams is it need to have no weapons, it need to just be a spawn truck with a quick shop. and it needs to be its own vehicle. unlike the arty above, its scope is not limited, it was, and would be, a major point on the map, its importence is more so then nearly any other unit on the field. in that vein its proper balence needs to be its own, not a kit change.

They already said buggies would be in game, just not at launch.
I want an AA vehicle with some additional ground protection like a minigun or something.

ES Buggies
Deliverers
BFRs
That's all the original vehicles you can add, considering the sidegrade gimmick. And even then deliverers are not that necessary.

NEVER do BFRs...I'm not a vet and I agree.
Could I get a Lightning with a AA gun and minigun? Then again I just read n the wiki page this is how it comes now.

What's so bad about BFR's that I've seen vets of PS1 (mostly) complain about?
P.S.
Maybe I'll find out, I'm currently in the process of d/ling PS1 now. PS2 got me interested in seeing what the first game is like for myself.

BFRs were supposed to fight alongside tanks, but they (devs) made it vice versa.

Lodestar has been confirmed to be in the game.
Confirmed by who?
Can you provide a source link?
I have followed PS2 development closely and have never seen or heard anything about Lodestars beyond "maybe post launch"

theres room for alot of other vehicles. they may not have been thought up yet, but they can exsist.
as for bfr's, even if they were reworked to the point they worked perfectly with the game. because of what they caused, id still nto want them

Yeah Lodestars were never confirmed so I don't know what that guy is talking about. Sunderers currently behave a little like lodestars in that they have a repair/rearm aura around them.

Loadstar is confirmed, and they may be adding a ground vehicle mobile spawner so that you're not fully dependent on just a Galaxy. They're not cheap.
Edit- And also there may be naval and space warfare so there's huge opportunities there. New ground vehicles like long and short range artillery, mobile heatseaking rocket launchers, more empire specific aircrafts, tanks, buggies, transports. All of this may come, just at the moment. there are not many vehicles.

Didn't heard anything about lodestar.
And about space and naval warfare, I'm pretty sure it won't be avaible at launch and y guess it will take time to go out.

Would love to see amphibious vehicles for the other factions. Maybe a hovercraft transport for crossing bodies of water. It'll be air cushioned as opposed to the Vanu's anti-grav system.

I want Empire specific skyguards!!!
NC should have a fire THEN lock heavy hitting round.
TR should have two gunner seats with rapped flack.
VS should fire Aerial Lasher rounds that look like lightning arching out from glowing orbs zapping all targets that get too close as the orb flies by.
MORE EMPIRE SPECIFIC EVERYTHING:hitit:

i really hope they introduce more vehicles and weapons, because diversity is very important in mmo. diversity leads to more customization.
having only a few vechiles will be really boring after some time.

Good I'm glad this is the response I see because I could see it becoming very attractive for the devs to avoid spending resources creating a brand new vehicle and instead just sidegrade a preexisting vehicle into the role.
I was hoping there would be a unified opinion that this would be unwelcomed.

I would think that adding new vehicles would be nice. I think aa would lightnings feel silly.

Best thing I could think of is an entire "continent" dedicated to naval warfare. No bridges between land masses and bases built both inland and on the coast. Coastal bases would spawn naval warfare ships and a new amphibious transport could be made to carry a ground vehicle and maybe 4 gunner seats.
Could even feature submarines (very long shot I know), aircraft carriers, missile ships, battleships, and destroyers.
Aircraft carriers would function as repair/rearm stations for aircraft. Missile ships would be anti-air dedicated, with some firepower for anti-ship (6 total gunner spots with 2 dedicated to ship combat). Battleships would function as artillery platforms, lacking the accuracy for solid ship-to-ship combat at closer ranges. And Destroyers would be built for ship killing with smaller heavy guns and surface-to-surface missiles.
That's my wish for naval combat.
I would think that adding new vehicles would be nice. I think aa would lightnings feel silly.
How would an AA lightning feel silly?, I don't get why good AA can only be put on the back of buggies.

It just feels wrong to have a battle tank be able to counter air.
maybe if equipping it wit haa made it have missle pods or flak cannons instead of a main gun barrel... but if it's just a shell, then it just feels weird.

I think the dev team giving existing vehicles new roles when it makes sense is a great idea over pumping out ultra defined support vehicles that take months to design, code, test, etc. I'd rather they use that development time to make new continents and other exciting features like player owned bases, new base types, etc.
Of course if they come up with a role on the battlefield that doesn't fit a current vehicle type, they should make something new (for instance, a 2 or 3 man buggy).
