Pretty much, besides all the usual things breaking at random almost nothing is tuned and a lot of systems aren't even implemented.

And those games aren't even bad. The problem is they aren't supported, so bugs and balancing issues NEVER get fixed. When CoD became annualized, the series died.

I recall back in a very early Higby conversation where he said that today many studios are just struggling to survive and needing a quick cash grab. He didn't specifically mention SOE but yeah he is right. Game industry is not exactly flourishing these days. PS2 will make good money for SOE but unless they have some "out of the box" ideas in the pipeline it won't last very long. There is no way this game will surpass PS1 in lifespan.

You really don't see PS2 lasting for 5-6 years? I wouldn't count these last couple years for PS1 where servers needed to be merged for the fight to survive.

If PS2 was a sub model then maybe. But eventually pops will dwindle when games with similar twitch mechanics come along, the horde will leave for the flavor of the day. That's the thing, once pop starts dwindling it compounds itself, "I am not playing that game because people are not playing that game anymore". I think they are making a good short term business decision. Beyond that, who knows they have planned. Anyway we are getting off topic.

I fail to see how a sub model will keep populations longer. That just increases the barrier to entry and adds incentive to leave the game.
