View Full Version : Faction Combat Doctrine

I was just thinking about the combat doctrines the different factions will end up tending towards due to their default bias.

They value:

TR:Speed (RoF and Movement)
NC:Heft (High Damage/High Armor)
VS: Precision (Maneuverability and Accuracy)

Because the TR value speed I have a feeling that they will be most effective if they attempt to breach and rush through a breach. I.E. Breakthrough with tanks and employ Blitzkrieg style tactics.

Because the NC are heavy hitters and can take the damage I think they will be able to successfully employ "War of Attrition" style tactics and win logistically in extended fights.

Because the VS value precision their tactics would probably benefit from precision and stealth. I.E. Night ops and area denial by accurate fire (I.E. Camping/Sniping)

Thoughts on this?

There will be outfits of each faction that specialise in each type of fighting. For example, I know of at least two outfits on NC that will be making 'night fights' their 'thing' that they do really well.

In an ideal world perhaps. :p

Let me spin you the tale of how the empire differences worked out in PS1 early on.

There isn't much difference in the hype except VS were touted as more of a "utility" combat role, their weapons were/are more multi-role (for instance not having to switch up into AP ammo with a reload).

What we really got was....

NC were third person camping supremo's, between the n00bhammer and the Phoenix (camera guided rocket launcher).

TR with the Mark 1 Striker and the early MCG were just spam maniacs really.

VS were warp-tastic, between the Lasher lag inducing disco balls, jump-jetting MAXs and the old 3 shot rexo Lancer.

So er....all I'll say is attempting to infer overall empire playstyles from a desire from the dev's to make an empire about "this", probably won't end up being how you think at all. :p

It's actually how I'm pegged, because of the outfit division I'm in currently. but in terms of overall strategy it seems like it would be the way I mentioned if logistics were more strained (I.E. fewer places to make tanks and things)

Well in the streams and videos we have seen one of the loading screen hints IS "the vanu attack at night ... mostly" or something similar so there has got to be some truth to what you say.

Yea, but there might be a problem with that...while they likely could easily move around while staying more concealed than the other two (having the darkest color armor and all) they do use bright flashy energy weapons where every round is a tracer and as we know "Tracers work both way."

Everyone has bright tracer rounds, it's why night fights look so pretty!

I'm sure there will be night ops specialists, but I wouldn't count on light specific certs, sans maybe night vision or flashlights, if those are even certed into to access them. Most we'll see from outfits are cloaking specialist oriented outfits. Then again, we don't know how specific outfit certs might be. They could just be very general infantry certs.

TR Combat Doctrine:

MOAR BULLETZ!!!!

But we're right, moar bullets is always better.

Seriously though, with a wall of lead and rapid advances blitzkrieg fits TR.
