Now after reading it, it sounds like they're making sure something is playable by a mass number of people before letting in those people. That sounds perfectly fine to me. If you can't actually play you can't really test. It would just end up with tons of reports about it being broken and having us wait for that to be fixed anyway.

They can delay it as much as they want. It's their game and their beta.

The point of a beta is to let players into a game so they can do things the paid testers hadn't thought of and find any bugs that way. They pay people to find the obvious problems.

I dont think the "rather wait for them to make the good game" is any kind of valid argument when we're talking about closed beta starting. With that ideology there would be no beta testing and we would just wait for them to release a finished product.

That said, naturally I'm a bit bummed by the delay, but I can wait, so I'm not QQing or ranting per se, but I just think the argument is sorta ridicilous when we talk about beta :D

I can't imagine what the wait has been for some but seriously there are alot of good games out there to keep your mind off PS2 at least for a few weeks. For alot of us this game has everything we need in ONE game to last us a lifetime. (hopefully) Huxley my god was i lookin forward to that until i got into a closed beta of some sort. pfffft.

Anyway myself I just finally beat batman: arkham asylum. Slept on that game for a long time and picked up it and its sequal for cheap on steam. Great game.

I like exact dates as well, since it lets us know they're doing their best for us. It's better than having no communication and letting people toil over when it'll finally happen and just lose hope. We now know it's likely within the week at the very latest - and that's what's important, we know it's soon and can actually prepare for it.

Its possible man I know they have been quiet as hell on twitter today compared to the weekend. There could be other reasons for that of course but I like to believe they are busting ass to bring us this game. Nothing from their dev team, that I have seen, screams that they aren't passionate about this game and want others to experience it asap.

Except vets are getting priority one access. It's also why I think SOE is more concerned with showing us basically what they want Planetside 2 to be, and that isn't a buggy and/or incomplete product, hence the delay. Regardless of what I or anyone else here thinks is the reason for the delay (severe bug/stability issues, or just wanting to add more cool $#!%,) this much should be becoming clear.

Bug hunting isn't at the top of their beta concerns list, mass scale balancing is, and they essentially need a "finished" product for that to amount to accurate balancing.

I'm still holding to "Beta will be sometime next month [August]". I know July was once an estimate, but now they tried and failed to launch it "early" still in July. I'm cool with all these early attempts. My system is still not put together until probably Wednesday. I'm hoping they'll still accept my tech test invite tomorrow. It's fairly ignorant of anyone to stifle a debate that way, and they really shouldn't be responded to.

Likewise, however, it's ignorant to assume speculation and conjecture is enough proof to call out the faults in a system and demand change.

I'm sure SOE has a plan. Only in extreme circumstances would anything solid and unique (like vehicles, weapons) be added or outright removed for the sake of game play balance. Really, that's what the Planetside 2 beta is primary for: balance testing.

everyone saying "longer the wait the better the game", while this is true its also what beta is for. were supposed to get a raw game and mold it to its full potential. If we were talking about actual release then sure take as much time as possible.

So yea im kinda bummed that im going to have to wait ATLEAST another week, and realistically it could be another month or 2 before my number is even called, while the cry babys that are just trying to get in to "get in" will most likely get in before me:p

Just to bust your bubble... :blowup: I actually have been a beta/QA tester for several years for many companies. And I'm sure I understand and know more about what goes on behind the scenes than you based on your canned/tool like replies.

Because of my gaming experience (E3 presentations, Gamescom presentations, PAX event logistics, network tester, game tester, software tester, hardware R&D, community PR, etc. etc.), that gives me an insight to how off-beat and out of touch the "PR" dept and Devs can be during development. I've been there before.

'Ey! The last time PS2 got a big delay, it was because they were abandoning PS Next and going for a full on recreation of Planetside on Forgelight, amounting to what we see today. I wouldn't say that was something "very very wrong." Depends on who you ask though. Some people do want PS1 all over again, sans the BFR's.

This is a week delay and the reasons for the delay are vague as hell, with the sources of what's really going on about as reliable as the trolls on this forum saying they got tech test invites when they really didn't.

I actually did alpha and beta testing for that, it was a neat concept and could've been fun, but it was a HUGE mess, very few areas had any level of polish going into the beta. Severe memory leaks, a lot of CTD and frankly unless they were really going to push development I could not picture it being p2p.

I've tested a lot of games and the state the game was in going to beta was dreadful and I have to this day not seen a game in that kind of state going into beta, I think they called it a beta out of desperation. What a shame I love Stargate and the franchise could've used a good official game.
