is it me or planetside 1 had a lot of female players? my first friend i made in planetside 1 was a woman, and most of the hate tells i got in game were from women.

what is it about planetside that attracts more female players than other shooters?

I feel more women play Planetside because of the social aspect of the game, you don't just go around killing people in pvp matches like you would on call of duty, battlefield 3, etc. There is a high level of teamwork in FPS and involvement in MMOs so when you add the two you get a stronger more diverse community.

In my outfit, women wear the same color uniforms as the men. I don't view them any differently. They are commanded to accomplish the mission the same as the men are without any exceptions.

Each individual in the CDL are held to the same high standard. The only people from whom I expect more are my core of Officers, because they are required to lead by example. Even in my core Officers females serve with distinction.

I under stand that a lot of guys in online games still have their "virgin" mentality. So anything to do with a gurlz is suddenly [I]turn brain off time. It's a maturity thing, and I feel that the PS community "on average" is more mature. "Average" meaning we aren't completely devoid of, but have far less.

This will be subject to change the moment the game goes live/F2P sadly.

Personally, I would recommend joining old PS1 Outfits if you want a guarantee of higher maturity (and to not be labeled by gender)

I've been in a guild where the second in command was married to the guild leader and I had a falling out with her, she practically go her own way all the time and disagreeing with her pretty much ended with me being kicked out of the guild. Now I'm in a guild (for another game) which has various female members and the guild leader is the woman and shes very understanding and does her most to keep the guild going.

Those two examples couldn't be further from each other, and I'd say this is a common trend you have women who exploit themselves and you have women who take command and act fairly and everything in between.

I'm from TAW.net - The Art of Warfare and at the moment we have +/-1400 members divided over 17 divisions and there are quite a few female players. I can recommend having female players in the group to every clan/outfit that promotes mature play. If there are players who cannot commit to the community standards, then they should not have applied in first case.

There will be always (new) male and female members who will find it hard to behave and crossing the line, but thats where the difficult role of real community leaders show up. Doing their job by correcting, warning and if really needed banning members from the large majority who can behave. I don't really agree, and what I mean by that is not that men are better, but simply that there is no "better".

Each gender has its strengths and weaknesses, but overall neither is "better".

Our society is still quite primitive when it comes to understanding and reconciling gender differences though, and the march to gender equality has resulted in a large amount of changes meant to aid women, and comparatively insignificant changes meant to aid men.
Because the issue of gender equality cannot be solved by simply empowering one gender; the social perception of what it means to be a man/woman has to change too (ie. perhaps a man crying shouldn't be shouted at as being "gay" or a woman that enjoys football or chopping wood shouldn't be laughed at).
In time, the old expectations/socially acceptable behaviours will also have to change if a truly balanced society is to be achieved.

Aaand that was something that's probably not what you'd expect to read on an FPS forum.. oh well :P

I've played MMOs -- not like Planetside, where females had manipulated males in positions of power to achieve in-game assets. Meanwhile, I've played MMOs where males in positions of power manipulated females into sexual interactions for a bit of that power.

Happens in real life too. Like, a lot. This is not damning of men, women, male gamers, or female gamers.

To answer the original question about higher numbers of females in Planetside. Females are attracted to MMO's in general cause they like the social aspect.

The reason a lot of guys play FPS is for the adrenaline rush, the way you get pumped when you're on a roll and kickin' ass. We tend to enjoy this more than women, and it probably is partly due to our testosterone levels.

However, PS is a more team-oriented and social FPS than most (being an MMO), and a lot of female gamers enjoy that kind of environment. So, of FPS, PS probably has a higher percentage of female gamers than the rest.

My fiancee is a gamer, though she prefers RPGs. I'm going to see if PS2 appeals to her, though I suspect not. She's primarily a collector and crafter; she likes to create things, and PS2 is decidedly lacking in this area.

But, a man can hope!

Ive always found thier to be almost as many female gamers as thier are male, My last guild consisted of 50/50 ratio, back when I first started Online gaming, way back when UO was the rage 3 ladies took my newb hiney under thier wing and taught me the fine arts of PvP.. now around 2 decades later I look back at games ive played and some of the finest companions and greatest opponents have been the fairer sex.

In todays gaming society ladies are more comfortable with being associated as a gamer and thier is little to no need to hide behind an avatar, so heres to looking forward to meeting new players Male and Female alike when we finally enter Planetside 2

Yeah no, no way in hell is that true. Though there aren't only male gamers, there aren't nearly as many female ones.

Overall, I am pleasantly surprised that this thread is so welcoming to women gamers with minimal sexism. More equal gender ratios in FPS games is something I very much look forward to, if not simply because perhaps then video gaming will be truly accepted by all in our culture. We've already made great progress in the past 15 or so years, and hopefully the trend only accelerates to the point that the people making up your average server will be as varied in age, gender, and race as your average subway car, office, or pickup game of basketball.
