Planetside Races

with all the vehicles involved in PS im almost positive there is at least be some races. im mean thats almost obvious. with people jeep racing in BF:1942 and other games its almost given. but the races will obviously be empire only races. unless some people like racing or know each other. im stopping now because ive lost interest.

YOu know what I just thought of?

The Warp Gates are safe zones (which is a kickass idea) . . . you could have a DeathRace, from one warp gate to another, with people from all empires (although probably all in the Mosquito). I mean, damn. :D You'd probably have to organize it externally from the game, but man . . . .

Or even more fun (just goofing around) -- imagine a bike race from one WG to another, one empire only -- can you imagine if 50 bikes showed up at the warp gate? That would draw a little attention. Good luck making it all the way -- the enemies would probably pop the contestants like popcorn. :lol:

if you wanted to race other empires, you could also race around in a circle around a warpgate, but the finish line might be hard to figure out, maybe there is something there i dont know about that could be used as a finish line.

Um . . . except that since its not a real border, people would cut inside the warpgate as a shortcut. Also, they would be shooting each other (althoguh that could be very fun (but not if there's a 15 minute timer on racing vehicles (if there is, oh fuck (except if it's reasonably well balanced (a la other games (yes this is a lot of parenthesis (what's the plural of that?)))))))

Wow good idea Luc; Warp gate to warp gate races... that'd rock.

Imagine a huge Vanu / NS battle taking place over a central base, bullets and plasma flying, the line pushing back and forth for seemingly ages; the suddenly a herd of Basilisks come streaking through, heading across the battle field screaming something un-intelligable. Two trailing basilisks buy the farm, exploding dramatically, sending the drivers sprawling.

Cool.

And PS is the first game we could do that. Think about it; size, persistance and no tendency to "reload".

OT: when people call me Luc, instead of mr_luc, for some weird reason it freaks me out. Like they know me in REAL LIFE or something, since that's my first name . . . I don't know why, but it feels strange, like someone I know logged on here and DAMN BUSTED!

I am so stoked about this game. You're right, it's never really been possible before. With the vast majority of the individual gameplay elements, I think "Ok, I could do that (and have more fun doing it) in Tribes 1/2". But the whole is more than the sum of its parts in this case, way more. And it shows up in ideas like this. A four-wheeler race from one Warp Gate to another -- jeez, how long would that take? :o Heh, besides which, you could make that just one 'lap' . . . and the goal would be to see who can make it from one warp gate to the other and back the most times without dying (because after about one lap, you KNOW the other two empires would have people that would notice and would be chasing you in gunships . . .)

The other thing I was thinking about was collecting enemy vehicles, much the way that you collect rare cars in GTA3 . . . if you logged off, someone else would have to drive it, but it would be SO DAMN COOL if you could be a Vanu driving around in a terran Reaver. I mean, they would be like 'Collector's edition' vehicles. Talk about a status symbol. :lol:

I believe once you hack another empire's vehicle, it's color scheme turns into your empire's. So if you hacked a TR reaver, it wont stay the same awesome red and black. :D

Lol - ive already heard about some wraith/basilisk races - so looks like the beta testers beat ya to the test. Winner gets a new gun or some ammo or something, just items that they wont have to purchase later :) that or putting up a 'pink slip' to their vehicle so the winner an have it

You could even race through the warpgates, like, your 'track' could span 3 or 4 continents that are connected by warp gates, and the finish line would be the same as the start, hey. :)

Maybe they could announce the race results on AGN.

I like the idea. A bunch of uncloaked Wraiths vieing for position and totally confusing a battle would be pretty cool.

A pair of wraiths line up in a warpgate. A decloaked female infil sashays her little hiney in front of them. She animates a Wave, and the race is on!

If I found out one of these was going on, I'd either be participating, or planting mines along the race route. :p

The only problem I see with inter-empire races is the fact that you cannot communicate with them beyond verbals (if you're close) and animations.

Perhaps if alt-tabbing is fully supported you could keep a chatroom going in the background.

Heh, that's what would make the race so fun . . . you KNOW people would catch on to what's happening eventually, and then the race would get REALLY interested. :D :D :D

I would also like to try and organize a big 'peace rally' at the Warp Gate, where everyone on a continent shows up and we can play volleyball or something . . . and then have the Mother of All Battles if we feel like it. :D

Planetside has bikes? as in two wheeled dirt bikes? if so i'm just that much more excited about this game ;) i though the basilisk was going to be the smallest vehicle, it would be really cool to have motorcycles with like a machine gun on the front or something. motorcycles are dinately a must have

oooooohh the possiblities are nearly endless. all the different terrain, all the different vehicles, all the different possible courses. you could race to a tower and then to the top of it, that way youd have to get out of the vehicle you were riding in, and sprint to the top, or if youve got MAX vanu armor, jump rocket. you could obviously have jumping contests with Vanu MAXs too.

Ooooh. Kindof like the Baja 1000.

Start at the warpgate with no weapons. Standard Armor.
Get to tower A.
At the top of Tower A is a Vanu. Do NOT SHOOT HIM. Go to him, he drops a pistol for you. Pick it up.
Get to tower B.
At the top of the Tower is a Terran. Go to him and he drops a cycler. Pick it up.
Get to the secondary Warpgate.
Whoever gets there first with the correct loadout (you don't tell the players beforehand which weapons will be given out) is the winner.

This requires several players who will not be participating in the race but mostly waiting around for racers to come to the tower, a judge start and end warpgate, and a great deal of planning. And luckily, we have a great resource in the PS OpCenter that this could actually be put together with. Perhaps in a non-outfit general op section.
