It's going to be crazy to get organized in this game starting out, right? Now, I have an outfit and members but, it's not like we all are going to meet up at one spot and say "Okay.... You go this way, you go this way, you come with me, you go get me a muffin and some tea bags."

The game looks quite a bit different from the old Planetside I remember, don't get me wrong I can't wait to play PS2, I just am wondering what other outfits are going to be doing when everything happens all at once. I'm sure a lot of recruiting will occur in-game. Another quick question, does anyone have the inside scoop of how we are going to set up these outfits in-game? Will we need to cert leadership or just require a minimum of 10 players in order to form the clan?

Cheerio!

I think when XoO finally gets in and settled with the game, we'll just be doing scattered things. We all have what we enjoy, be it air/armour, etc. But I think depending on the outfits, the organization right away will come quickly. Even though the details in the game will be strange, having this squad go here, or this squad resecure that will still be the same.

That is true, starting out I'm sure a lot of exploration will be happening. With the different takes on bases, towers, and territories, outfits are going to have to really specialize in key areas. It's going to be so much happening all at once all the time, outfits are going to have to work together.

I imagine now that there's a lack of sanctuaries, organizing might be a tad bit more difficult this time around (why oh why did you take away sancs, SOE ) but I think we'll be able to do it to some degree.

As for outfits...People have been pressing the idea on SOE to make outfit creation cost money, which is just mind boggling to me. The game is going to be F2P and a lot of clans/guilds/gaming groups are going to be really turned off if you're going to have to spend money to create an Outfit for them all to be in. They said they wanted a fee for outfit creation to combat people making too many outfits.... ??????????????????????????????? Because people making too many outfits was a huge problem in PS1.

I really hope SOE didn't take the bait and have it cost a fee to create an outfit. That would be really stupid.

It would be stupid.

Death2all,
SOE would have legitimate concern for to many outfits being created. I'm personally thinking that it will have to be a minimum member count or certain leadership certs from the tree. I could see outfits such as the Enclave or TRG paying for en-statement, but small outfits such as mine and many other specialty outfits will have to cough up the money just to play as a group? I really doubt SOE will do such a thing. They hopefully compromised...

Funny , thats exactly what will happen except the tea will already be brewed .

Whats your plan ? , all log in at random places and solo around .... maybe give each other a nice wave if you see one another in the wilderness ? .

It won't cost a dime to create an outfit, not so long as (it sounds like) they're giving outfits the capability to cert a way to bolster the specialization the outfit primarily wishes to partake in, like being the tank outfit, or the infantry outfit.

But conversely, people that don't care to be in an outfit would want to somehow create their own just for themselves to stay as on even a ground as possible, even though the purpose of the system is to encourage players to join established outfits known for what they do.

I don't socialize well at all, so I'd probably fall within this outfit-less demographic.

Lol funny Maarvy, I just figured out that the tea bag joke made me sound like a 13 year old!
Oh well! I played PS1 and our outfit just got together at the sanctuary. I posted the question above wrong, before realizing that they do have the Faction WG's in place for just that purpose among other things...

Littleman, I feel you but it's good to have some comrades by your side as you fight. A game to me is nothing without the interaction with other players.

in one of the AGN's i believe higby stated outfit creation would be free, but the possibility of outfit exspantion might be a paid feature (for example expanding from like 100 slots to 150 or something)

as for orginazation, i dont think it will be hard, well all know each others in game name, well be on voice. its as simple as setting a way point (verbally if need be) and meeting up. there are safe zones on each cont you can use, as well as warp gates. when ps1 launched, it took my outfit only a few minutes to meet up and move out. this will all be made easier byt he fact many of us will have been in the tech/beta testing phases, and already know the general whereabouts of places.

Yeah I forgot about the Warp Gates... Most of everything will be worked out in Beta stages and early game play, for me at least. Your right though, as long the outfit is active in for example, Teamspeak, then that aspect of the game should be covered.

I'm just glad XoO was the first response here because I was in there when I first played PS right at release.

I think by the time we play through the betas, our leaders will now EXACTLY what to do and hit the ground running. What continent to start at? Done. Meet in foothold? Yes. How to invite to players to outfit? Done. Who to contact for outfit invites? Done. Outfit MOTD? Set. What certs do the leaders need to open first to better organize and lead? Decided. Done. Done. We using TS3 or in-game VOIP? Decided. Where to attack? Nearest neutral sector to the foothold. Boom. Go.

Outfits already spend a lot of money on websites and VOIP. A little bit of money comparatively spent on outfit perks doesn't sound bad. I'm looking forward to spending some money on something I like to support the game.

This is pretty much our plan too. We will have several officers in the beta before majority of others (supposing the active sub thing holds) so we have days-weeks time to get stuff worked up just ready for the masses.

Here I thought this would be the one thing that's self-explanatory for clans.

Just hop into VOIP, get one to form the outfit, invite everyone in, form a squad, gather up, go do your stuff.

The Terran Republic is not just comprised of my comrades, but my brothers in arms.

...Whom I don't have to get to know through awkward social interactions.

{cynic} this is the model I would adopt ..

Forming an outfit with up to 50 members is free.

More members block ..
Premium organisation features ..
Enhanced messaging and comms ..
Dedicated outfit voip channels ..

all for a small fee.

And they'll get the money. The cost to SOE of hosting a few thousand players on voicecomms is irrelevant at this scale when it's already a game feature.
