They mentioned that you would be able to watch the map also real time from the website, but I guess that would exclude units or at least do it so that you only show your location on website map for people logged in through your outfit or something like that.

Didn't Higby say that at most a commander could have a few missions up? One for squad, one for empire ?
I hope that posting 'high level' missions is something that comes with rank and little reward.
Otherwise you can expect 100 "engage enemy on Esamir". So the SL gets maximum return for his posted missions which everyone does.
I can't see missions looking like that, or being so numerous.
For a start the first mission would be to get to a point of engagement.
No reason to show "get to level 3 of ixnab tower and hold roof" unless you are comitted nearby.
I'd have at most about about 10 visible to the player to get them into an engagement.
Then a further ten to define their role in the engagement.
ie: in a squad, if in a platoon, if solo, prefered class
Sure, they can scroll down every mission but this is a war man. Goddamit you don't have time to read 203 mission headers!

My main point is that I made the missions numerous to show spies the preposterous delemma they're about to face in PS2. I find it hilarious!
This is representation of every commander's public mission on the entire continent - not a few commanders pumping out missions. And this doesn't count private outfit missions. I hope there's zero high level missions. Ordering people to attack a continent is dumb. It has no place in PS2. It's about the sectors and the frontline - sectors and frontline. The representation is supposed to hint that the bottom 100+ of the list is already taken/closed, but not completed. Sort it by sector, and you understand the action that's going on or needed in a sector.
My hypothetical mission list gets sorted by sector and unit type. What sector are you interested in? What unit type are you interested in? Infantry, SpecOps, Air, Armor? Sort and decide on a short list.
This is a very fast changing battle environment. They could only get a picture of what's happening in a sector or two, and they probably need eyes on the ground. In fact spyiing is just pointless. They might as well just stay on their own side, fight, and strategically launch their own missions.
