View Full Version : TR question..

I really like the TR play-style, fast ROF and movement; however, in choosing the faction I want to play, the only thing hindering me away from the TR is the fact that in all the videos I've seen I've only seen a semi automatic sniper.
In most games, semi automatic snipers require more than one shot per kill. As I've seen, the only faction with a bolt action sniper is the NC. I have plans of wanting to snipe at distances and using a semi automatic sniper just won't cut it .
So will I have to play NC to ever have the hopes of seeing a 1-hit headshot sniper kill? (I do realize I may have to cert into special things to get the damage I want for that)

Well.. the simple answer is we don't know what weapons will be in at launch for each empire. What we do know, is that even with attachments, implants, and certs, each empire will always be the best at what it specializes in. In other words, NC will always have the hardest hitting sniper rifles.

Well VS use lacer weapons and as we know light does not have ballistics, IE there are no bullet drop. So I would not be surprised if the best snipers come from the VS faction if SOE use any logic behind there decisions.

Power drops off over distance.
For the OP though, you can't have your cake an' eat it ;) You're just gonna have to use that semi-auto to put more rounds down. Even if that takes 1 and half head shots IMO.....

Yes, no bullet drop. However, VS weapons have damage degradation over distance, and a very visible round.

Yep (with some unpredictable variation involved of course).
TRs semi-auto sniper is gonna b gud.
NCs bolt-action is also gonna b gud.
Depends on what you want, really.

Isn't the bolt action rifle common pool?
At any rate, you can SIDE GRADE your way into rainbow unicorn tracers and a winch system for reloading.
It's been said before that you can side grade one factions weapon to function similar to an other ones, just not to the extremes of that factions innate play style.
Such as, VS, NC could not side grade to get the same rate of fire as a rate of fire side graded TR. etc.
Also, beta.

I'm confident the TR will have a bolt action variant. Most videos are shown from the perspective of a certain NC anyway >.>
Either way, I expect only head shots are capable of one-hit kills, and at the ranges you may be playing with, bullet drop and even wind being possibilities, said head shots would be fairly difficult to pull off.

Given the ability to "cert" into each weapon I'm guessing you'll be able to make it do more damage/fire faster.

Also Vanu snipers WILL have bullet drop already been confirmed in many sniper threads you can find on the forums with direct links from Devs.

I don't feel that the OP's question has been answered adequately.
At launch, I'm almost completely certain that there will be multiple variants of the TR sniper rifle that can be purchased with cash or cert points right off the bat. Furthermore, those sniper rifle variants can be customized to your desire. Change from semi auto to bolt action, change from 8x to 12x, add a foregrip, add laser sight, add flash suppressor, so on and so forth, PLUS (I'm quite certain) the ability to change ammunition types, barrel types, firing mechanisms, and so forth.
TL;DR: The customization system will allow for you to make whatever goddamn sniper rifle you want.
Edit: Also, take note of who's posting in this thread so far: NC people saying that you can't have what you want unless you join NC  ...
They're correct to a certain extent: With all augmentations and customizations, an NC rifle specifically geared towards power per shot is going to do marginally more damage than a TR or VS rifle geared the same way, but I honestly don't think that it will be a difference worth shaking a stick at. If you find that the rifles are horribly imba and you want to join NC, go make another account. It's F2P after all.

If it helps you decide in any way, TR has the best soundtrack by a fair margin. It actually sounds like epic battle music. The others get backcountry rock and smooth techno that puts you asleep. I'm still not decided myself but I'm leaning on TR because I think they've got STYLE down. Black and Red, professionnal scary looking and awesome theme music. I support Vanu in terms of overall goal (Delicious technologies and SCIENCE!) and I usually prefer hard hitting guns, so I'm like... which bloody faction do I choose?

You have described my thoughts perfectly. I am in the same situation as you with what you just posted above. Let me know what you end up choosing. :groovy:

@Liwen Diamond: Cute avatar anime chick, reminds me of the redhead from Shuffle. Also, best way to decide is to just wait for your chance to play(test) the game. I'm currently factionless myself, though I accidentally labeled my upper right button thing as Vanu and am too lazy to take it down. Will be trying out the VS, the NC, then the TR, with TR on a very low chance of me joining even if it is Totalbiscuit's faction. Just not a fan of policed states and government controlling everything.
@OP: It sounds like you may be a sniper guy o.O If you really really can't decide, but you know you wanna be a sniper, then I'd suggest looking at the faction infiltrator armors and think of a movie scene with your character going around in that outfit. Can he be seen that way? Personally I love the NC infiltrator armor, the post-modern black synthetic fiber stealth suit came out amazing, just the helmet seems bulky. Would look great if they could take off helmets I bet. But gameplay-wise, I'd have to agree that NC might be the best choice, with both an incredibly powerful sniper and from what I hear, the NC have the most accurate stuff too. Just gotta worry about extreme long range bullet drop.

I really like sniping in most games, for example in BF3 that was the first class I maxed out. I do exceptionally well with bullet drop so that doesn't concern me. Aside from sniping, I usually played a mix of support-ish roles. Medic and primarily the support class in BF3.
For ground vehicles, I love a powerful tank.
In the air, I like to fly usually as the pilot something that transports people, for Planetside 2 - a Galaxy. I also like serving as an air to ground type of plane pilot in BF3 in terms of weaponry.
Help me decide which faction best suites that. Lol. :D

Didn;t we last hear that snipers could not 1 shot kill to stop them being over powered?

I don't think we heard that.
In fact is was observed in some tech test stream type things that the NC infil could 1 shot

Being in TB's faction will actually bring all TR on the server he chooses to be quite at a disavantage. I predict the cynical fleet will just follow him around all day zerging and ultimately nullfying the legendary TR discipline.

To be perfectly honest with you dude, you can do any of that with any of the factions, especially after some customization. I don't know how much you're planning to spend on station cash, but you could be doing pretty much all of this on day one if you are planning to shell out a bit.
But to be honest with you, day 1, no customizations, NC sounds like the best choice for you, lore and aesthetic aside.
