AFAIK Your invite gives you access permanently unless the servers are down or you break the NDA.

Later tweets he jokingly hints at the beta being mostly bug free - intended anyway, as never will every bug ever be squashed in any game... except maybe pong, and even then I wouldn't make any bets.

I really do believe they intend for us to just play the game like normal for the sake of balance testing, sticking to whatever killing implements they want us to use when they ask us to use them. Again, that would be for balancing data.

Sad about TERA. I played it for about 3 weeks then the student strike (Yes, in the crazy country that is Canada, students can go on strikes) ended and the semester resumed, but in double time since we had to condense 2 months worth of study in one. When RL says it's time to get shit done, you get shit done, so I didn't get to play any game at all for pretty much all of June. After that I just did felt like picking it up again. Tribes : Ascend however is loads of fun and revived my interest in the FPS genre, but it lacks the feel of persistent gameplay I've had with MMOs like EVE. Logical conclusions lead me here for Planetside 2. I hope I can find in it an MMO that's gonna be fun to play for more than a month or so.

Have to say those 3 weeks of TERA were the best fun I had with a MMORPG in year. It's a great game, but I'm not feeling RPGs right now it seems.

Anyway rambling aside I'm glad to see a familiar face, well username... You know what I mean :P. I only have a regular registration for PS2 beta so I doubt I'll get my chance to get in until at least early September, right in time for the new semester to begin! Who will win, college or PS2... tough question :rofl: See you in game soon mate!

You should probably put a phone call into your ISP and upgrade from 512kbps DSL before Monday. If you need a weekend to download any game chances are good that you'll be complaining about lag as well.

I got a 1mbit connection myself. To download any modern game, it pretty much takes me the whole day depending on the client size, whether the source I download from gives the file with full speed, etc

However, no game has ever capped my connection while playing it :D

I get approx 10ms to a UK site never mind a NA site.
It will be more like 70-90ms to a North American Server.

The extra 60ms or so will be for transmission times across the Atlantic. Pretty much impossible to get 12ms.

Use http://speedtest.net/ to confirm but 12ms is utter nonsense.

Ping does not depend on how much bandwidth you have. This is pretty much the same ping I had to US when I had ISDN....now I'm on 100Mb and it's almost exactly the same.

You're missing some things, ping is round trip, you only accounted for one way.

So theoretical min is about 32ms, practical is much much higher given that the tcp traffic is layer 3 switched which means it is not done in optics but rather in silicon which is much more costly in terms of time.
A regular layer 3 switch hop is a couple of micro seconds and given the infrastructure to get from your home to the server and back you can easily add a substantial amount of time spent in the routing infrastructure.
