Who knows, this day an age could be anything.
Just seems odd he was geared for a warzone firefight an a rigged base of operations to take out multiple assaulters an just give up after he guns down all those unarmed people of mixed ages. <-- that's the part that really doesn't add up. Geared like he was.. he should've just walked into a precinct like Arnie from Terminator 1.
The people who died is an absolute tragedy.

^ Agreed. I don't get it. But then again, he is crazy.. But he managed to get all that equipment.... thousands of dollars worth... But your right... ALL THAT for some innocent people enjoying a movie?....

He's the biggest attention whore there is, he uses his sick mind to kill a lot of people to "go out with a bang" He's trying to be the villain and of course the news networks eat it up. Before this he was a college dropout with issues, now he's a superstar, but he's a coward and didn't want to die.

I hope they tighten up security in the cinema. Hire people to do searches and have one of those airplane scanners in every cinema. Better yet, install turrets into every screening area and set them to go off at anyone who pulls out a bloody gun or gas bomb.
I demand the death sentence for this idiot.

I am not sure why the backdoor doesn't have an alarm when opened during a movie, it's not like it would be expensive system to set up. There is absolutely NO reason someone should be able to open the exit doors unless it's an emergency. Hell have an usher at the freaking door.
It's sad when emergency exits or safety measures are just their because the government tells you to put it in as opposed to be concerned for your customers. All those people dead, and a brilliant movie has this taint surrounding it because of some crazy dbag wanted to be infamous
All I can say is if you haven't seen this yet for whatever reason, do yourself a favor and do it! All the hard work that the actors and crew deserve their work to be appreciated and keep this terrorist out of your head that's all he wanted, fame.

Apparently he spent a bunch of time with some hookers in the weeks beforehand, put up a profile on an adult dating website, and was subsequently shot down by 3 women (maybe he shouldn't have listed his endowment as "short/average".)
He also applied for a membership at a local shooting range, but was turned down by the owner literally because he was too creepy.
Genius, maybe. Socially, he was a freakin' mess.

Whatever his deal, hes a dead man. I know Cinemark in my hometown hired cops off-duty to watch the lobby. Cinemark made a good stand there. They can afford the extra security and the cops can use the money.

They -have- tightened security, at least at Regal theaters. Just went on a date a few days back where they were telling everyone that they needed to search all purses and backpacks. There were a lot of outraged people!
Anyways, it's not like that would have stopped him. He was decked out in military equipment, if they HAD seen him come in, I think that might have tipped them off. But like you said, he went through the back door, and a security check at the front wouldn't have helped.
