Ultimately the choice is yours. I got it because I actually wanted to check out PS1 before the PS2 beta started. Wasn't even expecting to get in because it was after the free time was given out. If you got $10 to spend, why the hell not?

First, it's not like there is going to be one thousand guys buying PS1 now.

Second, as an old vet, i see it like a good idea, i mean, i had to pass throught customer support to recover my old and dusty planetside account, but what about all the vets that haven't been able to recover it? If they are hard fans and really wants to be part of the planetside 2 adventure, they can support SOE and help them testing the beta by buying PS1 again.

In the other hand, that's right that some people might buy it just to "play early", thinking that the game is finished. But they are dead wrong, a beta is a beta, it will be broken, broken, full of bug and downed servers.

Almost no company is really happy with the f2p business model. They are forced to use this model because there is a "Everything for Free"-Spirit in the whole web. By the way, this spirit also hurts the the press and tv business. f2p is dangerous because you can't get the retail revenues during the first hype. If you can't hold several million players for a longer period of time your business will fail. SOE was really nervous to put DCUO for free. It worked but there was a possibility it wont. There are a lot of games out there.

Edit: Do be fair, the problem for the industry isn't buying ps1 to get early access to ps2 but the whole f2p model.

As far as i know there is no p2p option for ps2. I would take it if it's there. Paying 15 bucks a month for all options in the gamestore is much more interesting than spending 500 "SOE cashcrystals" (or whatever :doh: ) for a single cycler pink camo upgrade.

The problem is that there are too much people out there who will buy the pink camo upgrade. But there are also too much people out there who wont spend anything.

I know the magical word today is "price differtiation" (i.e. take as much money as possible from every single person). In some way it also seems to be fair. If someone has no money let him play for free. If someone has a lot of money let him buy any bullshit he wants. Nevertheless, it still hurts the industry. Simply because it boosts the "Everthing is Free"-Spirit and therfore forces the industry to focus on the f2p model.

Numbers are playing a role in selection process. If too many people sub to PS1, they'll have to tell us only those that were subbed before X date will get priority one. Right now, I think that not only is this a ploy for more money (duh, can't blame them) but also the active sub numbers were just that ludicrously low it really wasn't worth separating them from the inactives.

Truth is, they really have given us every indication they want to get everyone that wants in into PS2 as soon as possible, without an NDA even. They want that gone ASAP too.

The invitation process is just their way to spacing out large groups of people so we all don't log in at once and crash the servers for a day or two straight, as has been the case with MANY previous MMO's opening up to the masses for the first time.

Because I can I guess. I figure prolly minimum 2 weeks early at 4hr x 14 days. Thats 56 hours. Gamefly cost me $10.00. So whats that, less than 18 cents an hour for entertainment! If you feel you'll be waiting 2-3 weeks to get in (and it'll seem like 2-3 years) its a no brainer.

i believe that it was worded that active subs are on monday garenteed. former vets who are not active, would get in after them, if they signed up for beta. (it might also only have counte din the last year im not sure)

No, you have to be paying to be considered a subscriber. Subscribers are basically paying vets. You are a vet if you ever subscribed and you priority is right after current subscribers.

It's just... like with many beneficial cash shop transactions, paying money gets you where you want sooner. In this case, pay $15 for a PS1 sub, get into PS2 beta sooner! I do understand why its done too, to pay for initial Data-Center/Server hardware and setup costs and reduce Launch Day problems due to capacity.

I'm a PS1 Vet but not a hardcore fan [was always a Casual playing with inconsistent playtimes] nor a subscriber.
(I have little interest in subbing even for Beta access - PS1 always has and still does CTD numerous times a day - which was normal for game made back then and honestly something I don't miss from those days)

I do hope that the Hardcore PS1 Vets get priority (determined by how long they have subbed to PS1 and/or playtime in PS1). They largely have kept the game alive and deserve first review/access of PS2.

Go hiking and swimming and start jogging if you don't and before you know it you'll be in the beta and you'll be glad you didn't spend any money to be in it, because it will not live up to your expectations.

I was aiming down my sniper rifle and I had to quickly shift. I didn't notice the Cone of Fire bloom to ridiculous proportions and take the shot through the scope. One of my concerns with this method is that only Gamefly (formerly Direct2drive) has these keys that I can see, this is likely carry over and I don't know if this trial is considered depreciated or not.

I doubt these accounts are being added manually so I rather not find out the hard way that 30 day trials don't get picked up on the pass through.

I'm fine with SOE earning a bit more money, the economics of making a F2P game still seems like voodoo magic to me, so I'm glad they have another temporary source of revenue. Only issue is they should have said this was the case awhile ago. The earliest phase of beta probably isn't your best bet for determining how your hardware will ultimately perform. This is an actual beta, after all, with bugs and little optimization likely to be completed yet.

Since you get a free month it won't charge you until September 3rd so you just cancel the recurring subscription once you get in beta Monday.

i have "pending" as "its temporaly active and will close after days are over". if i press "add new plan" it sends me to a local store who only sells game cards.

Also you can change the .exe to be compatible with Windows XP Service Pack 3, which is an option when you right-click on it.

Planetside 1 is such an awful game now haha, I haven't played it since 05 or 06 and at that time it was amazing to me.. but now its painful to play :(

Never did specificy how long is "long" though. Other tweets indicate we won't be downloading anything before 2:00 p.m. PST, as SOE will be shoving all sorts of new $#!% into the beta build probably up to 1:59 p.m, like certs.

All I want to say is kudos to SOE for taking rightful advantage of those with the time, money and fervor to buy/subscribe the original game for the sake of 1-2 weeks earlier access to the beta of a free to play title.

It boosts the fun for the really long time subscribers and nets SOE some extra revenue.

As a reality check, most beta events waves are of a planned size (its a test phase after all), there could still be too much interest for everyone to get in on day 1.
SOE could cut loose for the first few days then reigns it in afterwards (possible, but depends on the game stability/need for patching).

In the end #Beta is Beta#, please remember to submit feedback and bug reports not just run around like lunatics (which many of you clearly are :p ). The more you lot do the better the state of the game when I finally get my go.

I wouldn't say a few days, unless you mean an inactive vet could be waiting a few days, even though invites may go out every day, if not multiple times a day.

And when he said "if you bought it" my first thought was he meant purchasing a new PS1 account. I won't be holding my breath, mind you. I'll just hope that monday sees more than one wave of invites if I'm not a part of wave 1 (which really, is going to be small if it's just pre-free time actives,) even if they must go out at 11:59 p.m!
