19:20 (16:20 for full thing) Should we be worried about this or is this nonsense?

IDK how I feel really. I guess spreading the wealth is not such a bad thing actually. Especially if what they are thinking is true in that SOE needed/wanted up front money to get the IP launched successfully....

EDIT: Perhaps it's a matter of man power. And the cost involved initially with handling that amount of man power. Hence the need to partner globally to get everything right in time for launch as far as localization goes and such.

I'm personally kind of worried, there's too many things to expect.

Like they said, Pro7 can do whatever they want when it comes to marketing.

Every other game that has had a EU partnership has failed.

Not trying to be negative but I don't see how pro7 will change history. It's all done because of Different laws in EU to US.

If it's done because of laws, do those laws only affect F2P titles? Because it wasn't handled that way for PS1.

I believe SOE sold it because they were never really good in advertising the european market. Pro7 therefore have huge advertising abilities in europe. Nevertheless european players should worry.

Uh. These dudes don't have a single clue. "Maybe they want to give more to the American servers"? These dudes are semi-daft. The SIMPLEST reason for using pro7 is that they can have two support structures for the game. SOE can either hire people to work 24/7 for tech support for the WORLD, or contract it out to another company to lighten the load, thus making a better experience for all players.

Now that the issue is resolved that allows my over seas buddies to play with me, I fully support the use of another company to handle support, servers and account information.

Sorry If you think I'm clueless. But please Point me in the right direction of MMO that has worked with EU/US partnership....

I just hate being palmed off..

It's not about region lock, were worried about the way Pro7 is going to handle Planetside 2.

What does any of this mean to us Euroqueer men on the street?

That Pro7 owns Planetside 2 EU and may completely ruin it.

Pro7 said that they weren't going to make any pay2win cash shop.

I think we can trust them about that.

But i'm scared about having a game that is updated one month after the US game and the possible fancy cosmetic items they could put in planetside 2 for money, hello kitty camo or butterfly wings for light assault. (I know that's overthinking)

Question: Will there be a delay for patches? If yes how long?

Answer: There will be no delay.

Honestly, I've thought from the outset of the pro7 announcement that this has more to do with the localization nightmare that is the legal landscape of Europe. Let some other company handle it when Belgium bans your game because some crazy shot up an internet cafe over some imagined slight in game.

First of all stop referring it to "EU" laws and call it "German" laws instead. Germany has such a strict policy with games it is unbelievable. Most Germans import their games from the Netherlands or UK because there are no censorship what so ever. Or age restriction.

People who went to the Gamescom know what I am talking about, you have to wear wristbands in certain colours that shows your age so you can get inside the 18+ booths. Which is every game that involves blood.. so pretty much everything :P

If ProSieben was an UK or Dutch company I wouldn't worry so much, but German companies are known for their censorship. (aka Tera by frogster as the best example on how to shaft your customers).

(And yes 10 points for the person who makes the connection to 1940)

Maybe they had success with using Day9 to publish the game in China? It may have made them more confident with letting another company handle the game in the EU.

Though I wouldn't be surprised if that second guy in the video's theory is correct. That SOE's bean counters did the math, and they feel they will make more money selling off the publishing rights now that they ever would from the cash shop in the EU. Maybe their success in that market has been that grim.

You know, I really wish people would stop parroting the whole "good for advertising!!!" bit.

Pro7 is active in about SEVEN/EIGHT EU member states. Out of a total of TWENTY SEVEN. So thats at least 20 countries left out in the cold advertising-wise, let alone those countries that arent EU members

On the subject of the podcast, I gotta agree with Basti. They didnt even know that SOE is handling the servers in Europe too.

Still, after all the debates on these forums, i'm willing to wait and see how they handle things.

I'm very apprehensive about how this publishing deal will work out, but all we can really do is wait and see what happens once PS2 launches.

If PSS1 does a good job of administering the game, I'll play and so will hundreds of thousands of other europeans.

If PSS1 botches it, PS2 will be dead in europe. That may not worry SOE very much though, because I doubt the terms of the publishing deal are dependant on the performance of individual games in the package.

League of Legends in Europe was initially handled by GOA. After their dismal treatment of the game and general unwillingness to deal with bugs, Riot simply took back control. I am not sure whether this option will be available to SOE, should Pro7 not live up to their expectations, but we should probably just wait and see what happens.

I'm pretty sure SOE is responsible for bug fixes, Pro7 just have to put out the update. Question is, will they bother to put up the updates.

Pro7 are a company that has been out sourced to deal with customer service and relations in the EU.

This saves SOE a ton of money which does make sense.

But from a customers point of view we hate outsourced things. In the UK I won't choose a supplier of any service unless it's call centres are located in the UK. I can't stand being patched through to bombay it's bloody annoying.

Since there are only about two MMOs since WoW that actually "work": I doubt the failing of MMOs is caused by subcontracting advertising and localisation. ;)
