ok I need to build a new rig for PS2. Based in the UK so looking at UK sites for bits

looking at MB + Processor + RAM - i will reuse my GTX460 for the moment and I have a Corsair 650w PSU

CPU:
3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i5 3570K 3.40GHz Socket LGA1155 (OEM)

CPU COOLER:
Zalman CNPS7500 LED 110mm Super Flower Cooler
http://www.quietpc.com/products/lga1156-coolers/cnps7500

Those 2 bits seem solid

I'm considering the GIGABYTE GA-Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) Motherboard
http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/motherboards/intel1155z77chipsetmotherboards/ga-z77-d3h.html

BUT I may go ASUS as I have an ASUS board atm and they seem pretty reliable so has anyone any thoughts or recommendations on ASUS vs Gigabyte ?

As for RAM I thought Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/memory-pc/ddr3-pc3-12800/1600mhz/bls2cp4g3d1609ds1s00ceu.html

It's been a while since I last built a PC so if any advice gratefully received (please don't be afraid to mock if I've made a cockup somewhere :) )

The 3570K is a great choice.

That cooler I wouldn't go with. Get the Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO (https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Coolers+-+Air/CPU+Coolers/Cooler+Master+Hyper+212+EVO+Quiet+CPU+Cooler+?prod uctId=47248) instead. Easily the best budget cooler around and it cools far better then any of the lower priced units.

Motherboard wise this ASUS (https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Motherboards+-+Intel/Socket+1155+-+Intel+Z77/ASUS+P8Z77-V+LX+Intel+Z77+Socket+1155+DDR3+PCI-Express+Motherboard+?productId=49259) or Gigabyte (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Motherboards+-+Intel/Socket+1155+-+Intel+Z77/GIGABYTE+GA-Z77-D3H+Intel+Z77+Socket+1155+DDR3+PCI-Express+Motherboard+?productId=49019) are good choices.

Memory wise either this GEIL kit (https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Memory+-+RAM/DDR3/Dual+Channel+-+(1600MHz)/GeiL+Black+Dragon+(RED+LEDs)+8GB+(2x4GB)+DDR3+PC3-12800C9+1600MHz+Dual+Channel+Kit+(GB38GB1600C9DC)+ ?productId=47442) or this Corsair (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Memory+-+RAM/DDR3/Dual+Channel+-+(1333MHz)/Corsair+Value+Select+8GB+(2x4GB)+DDR3+PC3-10666C9+1333MHz+Dual+Channel+Kit+(CMV8GX3M2A1333C9 )+?productId=51173) one. Your call if you want to spend the extra money for more MHz.

Man, I love the Zalman flower-cooler. I had one of the 90mm full-copper variety back in the day. Super quiet. I dono about relative effectiveness today, though.

Asus and Gigabyte are both fine choices.
